    I use baking paper-- the kind that doesn't easily absorb anything. I tape a large enough piece over my palette with painting tape, and then I go nuts. When I'm done I can just pull off the paint splattered baking paper and throw it directly in the trash. No cleaning of the palette needed. And baking paper is super cheep, much more so than oil, cleaners or paint thinners.
    Some people might find it annoying to mix on, since it can be difficult to get it to lie completely flat if you're not patient enough when you tape it in. But I've gotten used to it, so it's a very minor issue. Especially considering the cleaning time I'm saving. Plus it's easy to get a "fresh" palette quickly, if the one you've been using has gotten too messy.

      Good idea. If you wet a paint palette you could stick cling film to it as well. That would go into the grooves if you're using one of those compartment palettes as well

    Hand-Wash Paste (the one you can use to clean your hands of car engine oils) works great. It will probably scratch the surface because it's a bit sandy, but you're gonna scratch it with a knife anyway so... I use it because I have A LOT of it. It might not be the best idea but works for me.

    Hey Wild hope all is well. Great video. Good to know those tips. It's great that you shared them. Btw I got a bit nervous when the back of your head was getting very close to the palette with paint.

    This was awesome! Thank you.
    But do me a favor Sir! Tell me how you get rid of/clean dry oil paint off wood and acrylic pallets?
    I was very irresponsible and let it dry on my brushes and the pallets.
    Will the same technique work or is there a faster and better way to clean this mess without setting off a asthma attack?

    • @Wild4
      @Wild4  6 років тому +2

      Your wish is my command! You need a strong scrapper like this ( amzn.to/2LR3uBg ). This will allow you to scrap off the dry or hard paint with easy. It will require some muscle, So be careful and always scrap away from your body ( so you do not cut yourself). This way should be a non-issue for your asthma too 💪 Thanks for the kind words too ❤

    So helpful!! How do you dispose of oil soaked paper towels or rags that are flammable? I’m an acrylic painter of about 10 years looking to transition to oils at some point but the flammability of oily rags freaks me out!

    • @Wild4
      @Wild4  5 років тому +1

      I always here about this but this is such a small issue I wouldn't pay it an attention - Just use common sense when it comes to anything flammable and you will be fine 💪

    Thank you for your videos. They have been helpful, I am fixing to start learning how to oil paint. And the only thing I am having issue with is cleaning my paint brushes while painting and after I am done painting. I don't like products that are flammable or toxic. So I don't want to use odorless thinner. I was wondering if you could do a review on the masters brush cleaner. I am trying to find other safer ways to clean oil paint brushes. If you have any tips or suggestions that would be great. :)

    • @Wild4
      @Wild4  5 років тому

      I will see what I can do in a future video. You may want to look at water-soluble oil, this might be a safer option for you :)

    Thanks for the tip was just thinking about what to do on how to clean one of these. I do have a question though and it's probably a dumb question, but what does using paint thinner say from walmart do to the oil paints vs using odorless paint thinner? Reason i ask is i got some from walmart cause i ran out of odorless and non-odorless is all they had, the paintings come out pretty decent, however i noticed that i can no longer make clouds in my scene cause for some reason the paint of the sky over takes the white. Is it possible that the regular paint thinner is causing this? It's the only variable i've noticed has changed since my first painting with clouds vs the one i have now without clouds.

    • @Wild4
      @Wild4  5 років тому

      Its tough to say on the clouds - Watch my cloud video and see if that helps you out.... For the paint thinner, I would toss it and go back to odorless.... the vapors that come off normal thinner are not healthy.

      @@Wild4 I planned to, like i said only reason i used it was because it was local, odorless i have to go out of town to get. It was just the only thing i can think of, cause i think this paint thinner i bought is designed to pull paint from surfaces so it was my best guess on it's cause for lack of putting paint on top of one another if the first layer of paint has the thinner in it.

    2 years late but, after you clean off the mass excess and your left with just that thin film/paint, can you safely just toss an acrylic pallet into the dish washer? just not have a dry cycle on it?

    • @Wild4
      @Wild4  4 роки тому

      Just wipe it off with cleaner and a paper towel and toss that in the trash

    None of those methods are working for me. I have a Bob Ross pallet and had to leave in a hurry. 3 days later I'm trying to clean it using all your methods. Even tried using Masters Soap and water. Not working. Have dried up pigment I can't get out.

    *Do NOT* use odorless paint thinner or mineral spirits to clean your clear plastic acrylic paint palette. You will *RUIN IT!*
    Why?
    I once had a Bob Ross Type palette with loads of dried oil paint on it, so I drounded it in odorless paint thinner for a day. The thinner essentially broke down the plastic and made it very brittle, it then shattered into several pieces. When I applied pressure to it.
    On the same type of pallet I tried mineral spirits in a very small amount just to moisten the top to scrape off some paint I left on there for a few days. I scraped it clean and got it washed and dried very quickly. Already there were weaknesses in the plastic and when I lightly bend it I can hear the slightest cracking sound. It was hard to see the weaknesses in the plastic, but if you got it in the right light you could see minut tractors in it.
