I've been looking for the 1972 commercial in which the woman in the kitchen uses the Wishbone Thousand Island dressing to "startle a salad," and the salad ingredients actually jump when she pours it into the bowl...

I've heard the story that Sophia La Londe invented it, but that the Waldorf Astoria popularized it in the early 1900's. .
But whoever did it, I'm glad. It's always been my favorite salad dressing ! !

I like Bleu Cheese or buttermilk ranch dressing. I have to admit though. I had no idea that nobody had a definite answer as to who invented 1000 Island Dressing.

The best salad dressing especially if you have hard boiled eggs on your salad. So easy to make nobody should buy the store versions.

La Londe did not invent it, my great grandmother, Ella Bertrand, the original owner of the thousand island inn is the one who truly invented it, Sophia LaLonde took that recipe to NYC from Clayton! This is the truth.

1000 Island dressing is mostly just a product of something that came out of a burger joint. Nothing complex, cause a little kid could of made it playing around with the condiments.
