I moved to Schenectady from NYC when I was 16. I had a lot of good experiences in Schenectady and I am grateful for having lived there for 10 years. This overview is well filmed and contains interesting historical information. However, it is hard to believe that Proctors, a major driver of the new economy in Schenectady is mentioned only as being near the NY State Lottery headquarters. I should have added it to the video, and perhaps in the future I will make a video that spends more time on it.
@@TheDCShow0 Thanks for the response. At one time Proctors was just one of three major cinemas downtown, but in the past 20 years it has taken on much more importance. Its renovation has led to its use as a place to prepare major Broadway touring musicals for the road as well as being a major showcase for many broadway shows. The former Carl Company building on the other side of the arcade is the home of the Empire State Youth Orchestra as well as housing The Addy, a performing arts school and theatre. The GE theatre in the old Carl Company seats 450 for music, small musicals, movies and other events. Proctors growth has led to the addition of many restaurants and several breweries.

Taxes are high, rundown houses, GE is the only big company here that layoff workers from time to time. People get used to federal aid. Will choose to work part time so they can still get aid.
It's doing better than Troy, and other cities in the capital district of NY. When I first came to Schenectady look like a real shithole, it still looks like one now but there has been some improvements. Schenectady is my hometown. Possibly the most historic small city in the United States. I don’t think the Northeast will thrive again until man finds a way to effect large, climate controlled zones in these climate zones. Life is much easier and enjoyable on the West Coast. For example, imagine Schenectady and suburb area that has an artificial year round summer climate. Most pressing issue is the lack of modern home construction. Most dwellings in Schenectady need to be torn down. Keep a few for historical reasons. Also change the education system to train young people in architecture and home construction, etc.
Hahahaha yes, the miserable climate in the winter is difficult to deal with. I will point out that there are plenty fo examples of cold cities that are doing much better economically than the Capital Region. Minneapolis is one of my favorite example.

All of that could be consolidated into a parking garage that takes up a quarter of the space in a moments notice. Some criticisms of this video hold some weight but this one does not.
And say what you want about substantial use, all those images were taken between 3 and 4pm on a weekday
I lived on Mohawk Manor as a child..Some sort of military housing..Was hoping this was in the video
Do ulster county next, please.
I'm thinking about doing an Ulster Sullivan type thing.
NY must have been beautiful before people.
Y'all better watch out! Its a showdown in Schenectady!😂🎉❤
Life long resident and it's like any other small city. Lots of history transpired here.
Thats for sure.
How about Green Island New York
Taxes are high, rundown houses, GE is the only big company here that layoff workers from time to time. People get used to federal aid. Will choose to work part time so they can still get aid.
big man Leo
YES leo is killing it
What about Olympian Andy Bloom? What about Pat Riley? What about Mont Pleasant High School?
I miss it. But we could not find an apt.
You didn't look hard enough
Schenectady is pretty run down wish the city would do more to improve the place a little more.
It's doing better than Troy, and other cities in the capital district of NY.
When I first came to Schenectady look like a real shithole, it still looks like one now but there has been some improvements.
A lot of people that moved to Schenectady, most of them come from New York City, some come from Albany. They ruined it with gangs, drugs, violence, property damage, fires, trash on the ground.
NO ! SOME PARTS ARE RUN DOWN LIKE EVERY OTHER STATE, CITY BUT SOME AREAS ARE BEAUTIFUL, CLEAN AND HAVE PRETTY HOUSES LIKE WHERE I LIVE
Ghetto thugs took over
My favorite part about Schenectady are the dirty needles everywhere.
Same
Stop being negative it has so much more to offer.
@@Anime_kitten I grew up here, lived here on and off between college and grad school, and am back living here now. I can count the decent places in city on one hand. 1)Malcolms restaurant 2) Central Park 3) Proctors 4) an Amtrak and Grey hound station to leave 5) ugh.... Hmmmm.... Cheap rent? If you have any hidden gems please let me know! Especially since they built the casino it is pretty awful in the Stockade district. And the virus has closed so many iconic places for good.
@@Anime_kitten so please Brit, if you have any suggestions, I'm happy to hear them😊
i live in schenectady and ist the best
If you meant "it's the best" then I love this comment!
When did the Guineas people move in?
Are you being racist to Italians?
@@TheDCShow0 My kids are half Italians what do you mean,Do y0u not know what Guineas people mean? Not Ginnys, Guineas are people that look Indian. Do some research on Schnectady and you'll see that its mostly Guineas people that own the stores. Smh, you address that but wont adress the SLAVERY Issues. Smh
@@TheDCShow0 Next time you do a video on a town or city, maybe you should do full research before you post, leaving out parts of history about a city or town just shows you need to be more passionate about your craft. No pun intended, allways when somebody in the wrong or not accurate they try to look for faults and blame rather than owning up to their own mistakes or wrong doing. I would never insult a race by bad names. Just shows where your mind at. Step your game up bro. Have a good life..
You should make a video about the parts of Schenectady that I left out! I would love to watch it and learn about these things.
@@TheDCShow0 I've only been here about 3 years amd leaving by the fall
I cant settle here, the vibe is just off, way too many drug attics amd prostitution for me, plus the city is old amd very low income and looks like it will he like this forever. Gonna take at least 10yrs to upgrade Schnectady and that's only if they start now. F0r the people that was born and RAISED here, they might not mind but I'm from Manhattan so Schnectady is not my cup of Tea. No DISRESPECT to anybody who's born amd RAISED in Schnectady just its not for me..
Peter stuyvesant at 1:13
Yeah sadly there are no good pics of Arendt van curler, I was hoping no one would notice
Basterebbe guardare il film (movie) di Derek Cianfrance "The Place Beyond the Pines" ... lol
Nice
Campbell Ave, Bellevue Schenect!
I used to live around there!
Helll yeah, actually it only sounds slightly familiar lol
First time I heard of this city was on WILL & GRACE
Minneapolis is one of my favorite example.
no change the politicians but most people are too stupid to vote these losers out so nothing is going to change!
Take a drink every time he says Schenectady 🥴
You'd be sloshed in 5 minutes!
Do watertown ny
I could see that happening, or maybe Lake Ontario/st Lawrence seaway
