[EAS] America's Last Month
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 жов 2021
- ARCHIVAL NOTE: This collection of tapes provides a rare insight into the final 27 days of the United States of America, from the “Big Mistake” to the dissolution of the national government by President Nolan. Pre-Watershed, thousands of television stations informed and entertained hundreds of millions of Americans. While a few low-power stations continue to operate in Idaho and New Mexico, radio has once again become the primary source for information and entertainment.
It is worth noting that the situation in the former United States has improved significantly since Nolan’s dissolution. Following the Famine of ’84, the population has since rebounded to between 55 and 70 million. Grid power is available in most areas, while rail service was restored thanks to the reintroduction of steam traction. However, the social regression displayed by North Americans continues to baffle psychologists and Watershed researchers alike.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This video is meant to showcase how the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) may have functioned during and after a major nuclear attack, in the context of an alternate reality where Able Archer '83 culminated in such an attack.
This video is part of "The Watershed," an alternate history horror project. For some context and backstory, check out the playlist: • The Watershed - Фільми й анімація
I just want to appreciate that drinking and driving ad where they kept smashing the glasses together. That's a pretty good one.
That was one of the IRL legendary campaigns against drunk driving, along with FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS DRIVE DRUNK...
And utterly genuine.
I'm wondering if the "Nuclear Age" one was real and contemporary as well. As a fan of "counterfactuals" one notes that the best ones include as much "real" history as possible.
I remember that ad from the 80s. Powerful stuff.
The most dumb epic and serious ad
@@davidstuckey9289 that one is indeed real; FEMA made it in the 1970s(?), and I believe it's on UA-cam.
10:10 was a moment that was timed _too_ well…
“Here are the official instruc-“
“We interrupt this program. This is a National Emergency. Important (and real) instructions will follow.”
the perfect timing confirmed
"here is a video about alert safety" (10:10) "(shit) OKAAAAY NOW SEE IF YOU CAN PUT IT IN REAL LIFE, or die"
Yes
Video: Chilling EAS tone
Subtitles: [Laughter]
I'd laugh too
😭
I was born in June 1983, and in actual real life it’s crazy to think I was born in quite a tumultuous time…
This was so incredibly well done. Felt like I was watching real archives!
Unfortunately, the nukes haven't gone anywhere.
You're a month younger than I am.
I was born in November 2000, in a post cold war America pretty much...and the era fascinates me tbh, though currently i'm disturbed, with rising tensions in europe between Ukraine and Russia...
I was born in November 1983
Your 24 years older than me zamn
insert obligatory "and when the world needed him most" comment here
Only the avatar, master of all four elements, could stop him. But when the world needed him most, he vanished.
Yeah we need him now lol invasion began
20:45 legitimately gave me chills, the cut from calm instruction into chaos is haunting, and the lack of visuals makes it so much worse. Great job!
That's what makes these types of videos so addicting!
As ever, an amazing video. Literally the only thing wrong was that the flag of Kyrgyzstan is visible at 2:28 and Kyrgyzstan, at the time, was part of the USSR. Other than that, a fantastic broadcast as always
Lithuania as well - but that’s only to really nit-pick
Latvia too 🇱🇻
That picture must’ve been 41 years from 1980,
@@mohammadkhayrsharifftapsi5859 also countries like Kiribati also appear
Immediately noticed this, not surprised to see as first comment. YT history nerds FTW
I personally love the outro. It feels like you've put a lot of favor into making it - the stripes, stars, images, music and even old TV effects. I love your EAS's too - they're not too disturbing, and there is always a sound of hope pounding in it.
Wish you good luck, even if a nuke explodes somewhere or not!
"I just dissolved the United States, God bless the United States of America!!" - President Nolan
@@nunyabidness5375 America is dead! Long live America!
That's actually a real TV sign off that was used in the 70s and 80s.
If the world was ending I would salute honestly
Yeah this is actually a real sign off, and IMO, one of the bests that was ever put to TV
In September of 83, I just left active duty, and was living with my parents back in Michigan...I was still a Marine reservist. Had this happened, I would have found myself at a local reserve center, as part of an engineering company.
I realize now that this actually takes place in November 1983 as the date is arranged as Day/Month/Year. I have to admit that when I watched this for the first time, I was thrown off by that arrangement of the date.
Europe does day/month. America does Month/Day.
I'm regularly thrown off by the exact opposite despite being from the US
Is there Marine stuff in Michigan? Or in a crazy situation like this, as a reservist do they just throw you at the national guard like, "do army stuff, good luck"? I'm fairly well acquainted with northern Michigan stuff. But never really learned too much about how the Marines work in that regard.
At 16:59, that caught me completely off guard. You’re that good at giving us a good scare.
fr that caught me off gaurd
You were using headphones, right?
The little moment at 14:43 is something straight out of an analog horror film (I know these EAS/EBS mocks are technically analog horror, but hopefully you get what I mean). I applaud you for incorporating it so seamlessly into a nuclear attack scenario.
Man, whoever voice acted Ronald Reagan did a very good job.
It was an AI
@@serryntonin if that's the case, I just want to know what software used in this scenario.
@@ROBLOXGamingDavid if I recall correctly, it’s something like 15.ai
@@serryntonin Even if it was a real Human voice, Reagan's is a pretty easy one to do, right up there with Marvin the Martian, Foghorn...I say Foghorn Leghorn, and John Wayne
Suddenly this eas scenario becomes more relevant..
Yeah, no kidding. You doing okay?
Got random chills when it said russia invasion
SHHHHHHHHHHHH DON'T GIVE PUTIN IDEAS
Dude, stop overreacting, Russia is legitimately losing
@@ItzBIULD Putin’s nukes are on the highest alert, we have reason to overreact.
This is haunting when you realize just how close we are to Midnight (the proverbial term for Doomsday)
There’s something so inspiring about the ending. Even in a rough time like what the US is going through (in the video) they still manage to bring everyone together and a beautiful what could be final salute and a final go of the national anthem.
To be honest, I keep coming back to this video because of the time and effort put into making such a compelling story. To be honest, if I didn't know any better, I would say this actually happened. That's how high-quality and convincing the video is. Sure, there's small errors here and there, but that doesn't take away from the immersive experience. Thank you, Jakob Hill.
The air raid sirens bring back memories!! The first Monday of every month the air raid siren sounded off. My grade school years were punctuated by air raid sirens. At first the teacher instructed us to get under our desks and stay there until the siren stopped. After a few years, the procedure was to line up according to height, then march to the gym, in an orderly fashion of course, to shelter in the gym. By about 1973, I think, the air raid sirens stopped sounding off, and that was the end of the air raid sirens. Probably by then everyone knew that our city, and none of us, would survive a nuke.
In my hometown, air raid sirens were tested every day at noon. Residents had no reaction, but visitors had the shock of their lives.
Massive massive "The Last Broadcast" vibes! Great video!
TLB is a classic!
Absolutely masterfully done. Love it!!!! Good to see you back.
Damn. You must have been working on this for months. The quality is astounding.
This is amazing!! The amount of work that you put into this kind of stuff is phenomenal (and the end results def freaks me the fuck out lmao)
Idk why this doesnt have more views tbh
It’s kind of ironic that World War III starts on the anniversary of the end of World War I
Guess who’s back
Back again
Jakobs back
Tell your friends
That was a fantastic video! Scarily dystopian…but fantastic. Encore, Jakob!
I can imagine people at the Pentagon, congress and the white house rushing around on telephones and frustrated yelling.
It would be ironically chaotic actually though people will be more mature it be more like the Cuban Missile Crisis United States military will be mobilized nuclear weapon the any hand would be Amana Ronald Reagan would have a choice in the manner his generals would prefer him to use nuclear weapons but if he does lead to the end of the world at the same time the Soviet Union manned launch first but it wouldn't be too chaotic however the u.s. government would be in shock but they wouldn't speak out they have put a call in place believe it or not they actually had a protocol in place in the Soviet Union ever invaded Western Europe it had a protocol played and played as well if a nuclear strike happens United States will be prepared for it but caught off guard
I was in SAC from 78 to 82. The exercises and training we did always scared the hell out of me
This is quite haunting.
Well done, thank you.
I like how whenever the static is playing, even in the background, it's only in the right ear. Nice touch!
Wow, great work and as scary as hell. You are truly a master!
Yes! We missed you jake. Love these
24:18 hard to think the US would have it's own end credits...
Eh, probably not that far fetched overall. We do have a long nationalism streak.
Every country needs end titles my dude. Supposedly Ted Turner commissioned something like it to air on CNN when the world was going to end.
What a great movie
@@KingThrillgore He commissioned the combined choir of the U.S. Armed Forces to sing Nearer My God to Thee. It's available on UA-cam.
@@KaylaT-Music get over yourself. You stand on the shoulders of giants and spit down on them. You’ve done nothing.
For those for you wondering, the scene from 24:20 onwards is from the Flag Evolution sign off.
This is an amazing EAS, you did a fantastic job getting the details correct.
Wow this was an instant hit with me! Great job!
That was a sad, but reasonable and satisfying ending. Great scenario, would watch again
I don't know why, but I get a real kick out of watching/listening to these EAS videos you create. It's really interesting to see how younger generations look back at the cold war I had to live through and then piece together these scenarios. You do a really good job...except you always make the same mistake of having NATO fire the first salvo. It was the USSR that thought tactical nuclear war would be acceptable. NATO was always playing under the assumption that one nuke would spell the end. Anyway...great job as usual.
You should listen to the Dan carlin hard-core history episode "destroyer of worlds" it lines out the timeline of nuclear arms and the cold war in general. It's over 5 hours long but worth every minute if you are into that.
But I bring that up to say that no, nato was definitely not innocent or any more cautious about using nuclear bombs than the ussr was. Thank god it never came to that and I pray it never will, but thinking nato were smart and compassionate while the soviets were bloodthirsty idiots is so off base it's not even funny.
@@nathanwinhusen6017 appreciate the tip. I will check it out
@@nathanwinhusen6017 one thing I want to point out though. No one, especially me, thinks NATO is all innocent. But, I've read enough of the history and lived enough to tell you the USSR deemed using nukes as 'standard escalation.' NATO always felt it would lead to a full retaliatory strike. USSR would've popped off first. Now? Who knows? Maybe NATO would pull first. I think NATO is to blame for what is happening in Russia and Ukraine right now.
It's actually really cool to see something featuring a part of West Virginia that isn't Charleston. One tip though, most of us get pissed whenever somebody says Mon County instead of monongalia.
14:43 - 16:07 "JESUS SAID ITS MY TURN ON THE CHYRON!"
All joking aside this is crazy good. A great mock and great worldbuilding.
Just remember, any scenario may become true. As someone once said, "Anything is possible if you put your mind to it."
and if the multiverse theory is true, this scenario has happened.
@@clearcat7296 don't forget. Several times in several ways as well.
No one put your mind to making this true.
Not this scenario. Reagan’s been out of office for 34 years and dead for almost 20. Pure fiction here
@@davidpar2 Reagan hd remaster
I really miss the 1980's
I wish I could go back
and stay just a little while
Same here
It would be very interesting
80s pop music, anyone. The Go-Gos, Michael Jackson and Wham or others?
The 80s weren't great for the middle class but Miami Vice, the Commodore 64, and Depeche Mode say otherwise.
Same here
Wow! That was pretty authentic! 👏 Welcome back!!
I was in high school at this time. Believe me, hearing this actually on the news would have been no surprise.
Can’t believe you’re uploading again.
Maybe with some luck we can get Ben Marking back too ;)
That would be AWESOME, but getting Matt Yarnold (TheFinalMinutes) back seems MUCH more likely.
I caught the "build back better" remark. Nice tie-in to today!!
Also, I'm nutty about the Reagan impersonator! Who ever is doing his voice is almost perfectly spot on!!!
I think it's a text to speech thing. I don't know what it is, but it feels to robotic, if that makes any sense. But yeah, when Reagan whips out the atomic strap, you know shit's aboutta get scary.
Ayep
Pretty sure the voice of Reagan is AI.
Superman, where are you now?
There's just something those old commercials have that modern ones don't.
Film grain?
Excellent work! Loved it! So glad to see you uploading again!
10:10 Don’t you hate when that happens.
Anyways, great scenario! Only situation I had was the static being in only one ear but that’s all.
I honestly wished that the LCD Timex watch that had the traditional clock face had been more popular.
Had one. I think it was called the "Timex Illusion." Loved it.
I had one as I prefer men's watches. It was awesome.
Balls, this is good. Welcome back!
The boss is back! Well done, Jakob.
"here are the official instructions"
*cuts to EAS*
Me: Oh for f* sake XD, perfect timing
*power briefly fluctuates in real life the moment the voice starts talking about the Emergency action notification*
Me: ok, now you're pulling my leg, energy company...
Is it just me or is the technical difficulties music actually calming and better than elevator and hold music?
Went to college in the area this was set in and it hits different when you've been to or driven past all the locations mentioned
This is incredibly well done. At first I was cautious of how much it aligned with The Last Broadcast, but this is amazing. The only thing I wish is that there was a deepfake of the 80s EBS voice. Do you have any tutorials on how to create an EBS mock-up? I’ve wanted to do one for YEARS. Also, brilliant to add distortion to the Reagan deepfake to make it sound more authentic.
Wow. Truly amazing work.
I live in Savannah, Ga. this was scary as hell hearing this.
The sheer _humanity_ in that one AI reporter's voice when he goes "...what?" Its like it achieved sentience in the last moments of life lol
Sweet Jesus. I live in Saint Joseph, Missouri and when I heard that, my blood ran cold. I never wanna have to hear that in real life…
So glad to see that you're back! Been a long time viewer.
Beautifully done.
Mike Schmidt could've saved us in 1984... Somehow we dropped the ball on this...
Live by the nuke, die by the same?
Damn you put in tons of work into it
glad to see your return, I love your content! also, my family is from the area the video is based on in a town called Elkins
i dont care that i've watched this already, im watching it again.
This is superbly done. And I have to say that as a foreigner, the USA does have one rather impressive anthem.
USA and Soviet are the best ones tbh
@@DanTheMan_KZKthe New Zealander one is pretty good
Great work
The VHS static is a nice touch.
My first day in the Navy was 9-11-1983. Great timing.
This is really well done 👍🏻
"President" Nolan sounds very sinister, and the Star Spangled Banner at the end was chilling. Thank you for posting!
Great video! Wonder if this nation will ever dissolve within our lifetimes. Crazy times in which we live!
I think so bc we are too divided on even the most basic issues, and a nation divided can not stand,I believe different sections will form countries of their own.
I fear that's where we are heading.
I was stationed in Germany from May 1983 to Jan 1986. This is scary as hell!
What an amazing EAS video!
9:26 did you create these "instructions" videos or did you create them, because if you did create them, you made a real good job depicting the narrator, the drawings/style and the overall feel of 60s-70s TV.
The drinking and driving ad made my mother laugh
14:54 That 80's generic calm backround music with the technical difficulties message was just perfect. If your about to be atomized to death, why die stressfully. A calm soothing melody to usher you and your loved ones into oblivion.
I was born in the early 1980’s in WVA, hearing the names of cities that were nearby in my childhood made this all the more chilling 🫣😨
Well done!
i was 28 year old in 1984,this seems a very realistic representation of what COULD have occurred, down to the VHS tape effects. We are now in a very similar situation with nuclear brinksmanship in Europe,so these types of scenarios hopefully open a few eyes.
Dope AF. Liked & Subscribed 👍
10:07 That was absolutely perfect timing lol with the radio and during the nuclear preperation videp
So. Be upfront with me. Is this inspired by The Last Broadcast? There's a lot of references and similarities to TLB in this. Nonetheless, fantastic job. Insanely well made.
The way the national anthem plays for the tv sign off after they inform you the President is dead is eerie.
ah, this one has commercials too.
time to archive it just in case.
edit: it's on the vault now, in case it gets nuked like the 1984 one. anything you need my dude just let me know.
obviously i won't upload anything unless this gets nuked and you greenlit it lol.
In 1989 I was off Pratt St., Baltimore,MD nd running a jackhammer the air raid sirens went off at 1pm.So loud it drowned out the whole city. So,this is it...? My buddies put me at ease...they do that every Monday...(whew...that's a relief..)
i live near Clarksburg, WV, and it feels odd hearing familiar places in an EAS scenario XD. my cousin actually goes to Liberty High School
the ending of these scenarios with the national anthem make me more patriotic than any real life scenario
I was born in 1989 but this takes me back laying on the floor and watching TV.
Imagine your watching the "How to survive a nuking" broadcast and the EAS cuts off the program at "... And remember, the single most important fact to know that will ensure survival is.... " EAS SIREN!!!! " A nuclear attack is imminent! Seek shelter immediately.
SICK NEW JAKOB HILL VIDEO
Incredible. Simply incredible.
Wow, this was a great mock
Parts of this could be cut into The Last Broadcast if the complete recording could be found(all four parts).
World: *enters a nuclear war*
Also the tv station having trouble: here, listen to this music
So well made
"What? Christ, let's see what he's about to do now" lol.
What I find interesting is that before the EAS message came on, the channel was airing a special on how to survive a nuclear attack.
_the time to repent is now._
When your meant to take cover but spend that time listening to the warning. 💀
I want to thank the creator of this for taking a steaming dump on my day.
