I don't know why... But seeing the bees with their butts up in the air as they take care of the larvae cracks me up. I really don't know why but i just find it really cute!! 🤣🤣🤣
Bees amaze me; I especially enjoy watching your close up informative detailed views, There is no way I will ever be able do what you do, so I want to see what you see, thanks for Showing me the up close detailed day to day life of the bees.
Although its not checkerboarding, I routinely move undrawn comb from the outside to the center of the brood nest. Nothing gets the frames drawn out quicker. Likewise, I will push honey frames to the outside edges. If I didnt do this my outside frames would get ignored in most cases - especially on 10 frame equipment.
Great video. But in the beginning was that 9 frames in an 8 frame box? I'm not sure if I can fit that in my hive.Your hive looks super healthy and you say there is lots of bees, but my frames have many more bees covering them. I can see capped brood but not much else. Am I not giving them enough room?
Yes. Some of my boxes fit 9 frames for some reason. This hive probably doesn’t have enough bees covering brood as the queen is just a crazy layer. More bees is ideal.
Checker boarding is the easiest way to break up a congested brood box, and alleviate the tendency to build swarm cells, in my opinion you are doing the correct thing, but it would have been handy to have a few empty nucs in the back of the ute, this way you might not have to destroy queen cells in the hives that you fancy.
You can't remember everything ... I can't remember how many times that i have left the smoker hanging in the shed, and I am not a smoker myself so a lot of bees died due to trying to sting through the suit. I noted that the Germans and Swiss seem to prefer to smoke cigars instead of carrying smokers, and just give them the occasional puff.@@aussiebeekeeping
Hey. Checkerboarding works a treat, if you have a good Nectar Flow coming in, or Brood Build in booming. . . Otherwise, its too Gappy (excuse the Pun) and or you can Chill (and kill) that Brood. Best done in your mid to late Spring up and just past your Summer Equinox. Lucky you Down Under in OZ Summers Days. . .🙃 Here its the opposite. . . Near Scottish Winter. Brrr. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2023 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

I think that’s still considered checker boarding . 10 frame boxes must take a while to fill.
I’ve checkerboarded to expand the brood before, but a series of cold nights can chill the brood. Hope this works out well.
Thanks.

I agree. I setup 5 Nucs that day with frames and feeders. Left them in the shed.
