My Amana gas package unit was built by Goodman. Flawless service for 23 years so far. Maybe it will give me 23 more years although these humid TN summers can be brutal on an HVAC unit.

Question: I had a 1995 Coleman AirPro 75k btu gas unit replaced in 2021 with a Goodman 96% eff unit. The Goodman is using 4X more gas than my old Coleman in the winter (no leaks etc). I have done all research and questioning.. I believe these new units are not what they say they are for savings compared to the old units. Can you tell me why my newer, supposedly better efficiency unit is using more gas? Btw avg. temperature is the same in the last 2 years and temperature settings.

    Trane- garbage
    Lennox- garbage
    Carrier- garbage
    Goodman - garbage
All of those are just high priced and unreliable
Coleman is actually a very good furnace and ac choice for a great price. People don’t seem to understand that when they buy a high end name they are mainly paying for that then the equipment itself. I’ve been in the industry for a very long time and I’ve seen every single gimmick out there. Just keep it simple and go Coleman.

      @@bsraeder was the Coleman a 80 or 95%?

@@crinklyten2152 i don't think they had a 95% efficient unit in 1995. It was more likely 80% eff. and vented the fumes through an flexible aluminum conduit out to a metal like chimney. It's not the plastic PVC vents like that of the 95% or more eff. units.

WOW, I have a 12 year old American Standard 97% dc drive furnace in Minnesota. All I done to it in those 12 years in 1 igniter and it really did not need it I chose to put it in as a maintenance item before it carboned/white spooged and I had to put it in on a -20 deg night. Sure seems to be garbage I guess. ha ha.

@@TedTedness-wu4vb 12 years is not very old, standard age on a furnace is 20 years heat exchanger warranty. I’ve pulled some 40+ year old furnace’s many of time. Back in the days they use to make furnaces to last, if you’ve replaced your furnace now I doubt it would last any more than 10 years. That’s why most manufacturers are trying to cut the warranty time from 20 to just 10 years. I’ve been in the hvac world for a while and 90% furnaces don’t last anywhere near
as long as an 80%. Beside the price difference is outrageous.
