Thanks for the shout out Will :P (I am the knucklehead he is referring too). Great show! I think for me two things were important when I got into Playback Tech stuff: 1. Learning EQ (Emotional Intelligence) knowing how to response to people on an emotional level especially with artists as they can be so attached to their work and you sometimes have to change it or sadly in rare case say NO! and 2. Learn how to bridge the gap between creative and technical language, this is important in being able to talking to the artist (I want the drop to hit me in the chest) and technical people (FOH) (Just boost the sub drop on this track at 60Hz by +6db, please). This way you can communicate to both sets of people on the road, which can really help you massively!
To me an important thing for being a playback tech is to have good quality gears / equipments and a reliable computer. If your goal is to be cover band play back tech get your master set list ready with a good repertoire. I’m a bass player, musical director and playback tech from Canada.
Hi.. My name is Emo, Im playback tech from Indonesia, I joined world music musician / artist from Indonesia, Viky Sianipar. From 2011 I used ableton for playback or in Indonesia we called playback tech as a Sequencer tech. I also use ableton for Dj-ing, house and techno in my blood.. Really love your video Will. Thank you.
"I fully support your opportunity to be offended and to be a knucklehead and not actually listen." LOL. love it Will! And thanks for your all your videos! They are super helpful!
wassup. I just subscribed to you today. But I know your name because of Laura Escude! ANYWAY, I am in Nashville and am a DJ. I think I may see which local bands are using Ableton Live for performance or are interested in doing it. But I already use playback for my own band. So it kinda keeps me busy already. just not paid. ha.

That’s a great point! Having great gear and maintaining it is important!
