Southern Railway Doubleheaded Steam Train - featuring 4501 and 630

- For two exciting days, Southern Railway 2-8-2 4501 and 2-8-0 630 were operated on a classic looking freight at Chattanooga, Tennessee. Classic props, vintage automobiles, and actors in period dress were brought in to produce scenes as close to the 1940s as possible. This could easily replicate the days when Southern Railway 630 and 4501 were revenue earning workhorses.

Wow professional quality. Nice touch vintage cars, clothing , takes me back in my memories of my youth before I could even be a student driver.
Glad you enjoyed
Major GTW fan here, but nothing else compares to this!
Glad you enjoyed
FANTASTIC job to you, and a FANTASTIC job to the engineers!
Keep up the truly beautiful work m’lad!
Thanks
That has a lot more to do with what Norfolk Southern allows.
Always like seeing steam engines pulling freight and not coaches.
Best UA-cam Video In The Universe, And I Love It A Lot
630 and 4501 its just so cool
La mia più grande passione le locomotive ke sbuffando pennaccki di vapore ke belle le adorooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😊😊😊😊😊🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉🍊🍊🍊🍊🍒🍒🍒🍒🍓🍓🍓🍅🍅🍅
Truly amazing! They are beautiful engines!
Yes they are, TVRM does a great job keeping them going.
@@DynamoProductions-trains 10:25 How the heck did you manage to get the shot!?
A diesel with coaches was used for the photographers to ride between shots, and they coupled that in front of the steam train.
@@DynamoProductions-trains I need to see how that was accomplished!
Nothing too complicated about photographing from the rear of a train that’s coupled to another train
Double-Headed-Steam-Locomotives are the BEST ! !
Man I wish they could put on a show like that all the time
It's a special occasion, people pay good money for it.
630 and 4501 were pulling the freight train just for photographers for the days gone by.
13 minutes of gold. Well done!
Thank you
Oh. My. Goodness. This was by far the best video of these two I’ve ever seen. The sound, the video quality, the locomotives themselves, it’s borderline movie quality. Kudos to y’all! I’ll be seeing 4501 in about 2 weeks. I’ll make sure to have videos up on my channel about it. Though I seriously doubt they’ll be as good as yours. Astounding work.
Glad you enjoyed
Very nice!!
Thanks
I had no idea you were on the charter! I think i know who were after seeing the shot you got of them as passed over the bridge towards the end of the first day. Lerro did a great job!
It definitely was a fun day.
Excellent.
Thanks
I can tell the car from the 1950's some cars from the 40s look like this is Chattanooga, Tenn. and the year is 1954.
Very little to prove it was 2018.
I Love It A Lot
What whistle is on the 630?
The whistle is a B&M 6 chime that’s a variant of a Nathan 6 chime.
Classic
What was your opinion on 630’s whistle in this video?
Sounds pretty neat.

Does S #4501 Have a hole in her right piston?
What camera was used for this, what settings was it on, and is it still able to be purchesed
It was two cameras used in tandem actually; a Canon Vixia HFG40, and a Canon Rebel T5i. They complement each other quite well on set and in post production.
What's the difference between a 29/4960 doubleheader and a 630/4501 doubleheader?
The fuel
Pretty much everything
At 6:46 that reminds me of what Winston link would do
That was definitely the goal
I Am Never Pressing The Dislike Button Forever
I watched it while it was happening on the cameras
6:41 😮😍
I'd rather have these on the railway than diesels.
I would to but unfortunately power hungry government politician's and the overly privileged children of our university would smack it down faster than you can say "steam".
Times change
Early diesels are pretty neat though
How the heck did you get the shots at around 10:40? I take it you weren't riding cowboy style on the front lol. Fantastic video
AJ Connolly No he’s totally riding cowboy style from what I see, they wouldn’t be able to get a Caboose or anything up at the front.
Ok, that's insane! If the FRA saw this they'd have a heart attack. Let alone the TVRM's insurance!
Bobby Sikorski AJ Connolly It's not cowboy style if there were two coaches and a diesel coupled in front of the steamers, with the vestibule positioned next to the front of 630.
Just to clarify so no one looking back thinks anything iladvised occurred, TAG 80 led the consist with 2 coaches (661 or 907 and 829 from memory) and then the steam engines trailing behind, so safely from the rear vestibule diaphragm one could capture those shots.
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner For Very Very Stupendous
It’s like seeing 29 and 4960
David Flores Agreed. Last time I saw 29 she was unoperational in the south rim
Well it's a Consolidation and Mikado team up, but that's about the only comparasion.
@@DynamoProductions-trains Well that and the 4960, in its current form, looks a LOT like a Southern Mikado as well.
Certified Fresh Fruit Salads For Very Very Awesome
Also, I want the #4501 to come North here to Green Bay, and run an excursion as a memorial to the gbw D-47 class 2-8-2 in the 400 series built by ALCO in 1938, 80 years ago and painted dark green with a white pinstripe along the running board, then run another extra excursion for the Packers' football 100th Anniversary from 1919 to 2019 A.D.
That seems pretty unlikely. The recent L&N repaint for 4501 means its possible to do, but someone has to fund it.
How much convinsing did the camera person do in order to ride on the front of 630 10:15
During the deadheads, there was a diesel with two coaches coupled ahead of the steam engine. This helped save time, save fuel and kept chasers away. The rare opportunity of steam trailing the coaches provided the video opportunity.
@@DynamoProductions-trains I posted that 2 years ago you dont have to respond
Hey, it’s still a question
Whats up with the big gash out of the "3" on 630's tender?
Thomas Bush probably just old or dirt
I guess they really are a *dynamo-ic* duo
**wheeze**
We just doubled over in pain
What does that have to do with this comment?
@@DynamoProductions-trains I dunno, railroad preservation news report?
No he just keeps spouting foamer fantasies. I’m sure everyone wants to see 610 running again, but it’s all speculation.
I’ll believe it when I see it running.
Nice name for the video
Thanks
