I've been a neonatal nurse for over 30 years and went through the 1989 earthquake, and others...we did the same thing -- clutching onto isolettes and cribs during the shaking, deciding instantaneously whether to evacuate babies...and if so, where! It was AFTER the shaking the panic really set in. We were extremely lucky!

Total respect for those nurses and my thoughts are with all those effected. But I have to say it is just criminal how all those relatively new buildings just collapsed. If this had happened in Japan it would have been very different.. The people living in Syria/Turkey deserve better.

It was like actual doom. I seriously wouldn't wish this to happen to my worst enemy. The feelings of despair and helplessness in that situation while the shaking keeps getting more and more aggressive and you hear the horrible noises coming from both the ground and the apartment, the walls etc, then you hear screaming from people. Every object falls while you're trying to stand up but it's almost impossible. Because it was such a weird shaking. It shook from side to side then in a circular motion then to front and back. It felt like forever those 1,5 mins, it was the longest 1,5 mins of my life. I was still under the influence of alcohol that I consumed the night of, but it was still terrifying as heck while drunk. I was also in the apartment during the second earthquake which hit with a 7,5 m, completely sober this time, only this felt even more powerful with the same kind of awkward motions and again, it never seemed to stop. I went back to the mind of that little girl who experienced another big earthquake as a kid, I held my mom so tight I swear I put a dent in her shoulder and kept saying Anne, Anne, Anne, Anne, Anne during the whole disaster(which means mom). Poor woman was also terrified I'm sure but she tried to keep a strong composure(she continuously got cold sores in her lips after that and she still has them, she probably lost her shit as well internally but never showed bless her heart). I forgot what a good sleep felt like since then. I've been sleeping awake if you've ever experienced that before, I didn't know it was a thing but apparently it is. I just can't shake off the feeling of shaking continuously for the life of me. I don't trust that the apartment I'm living in can stand another earthquake which sadly is expected in my city, I don't know how I'm going to go back to notmal again or how I'm going to stop grieving after all the lives that were lost. I contemplated suicide so many times but I would never do it out of the fear of breaking my old parents' hearts so that's not an option. I mean it when I say I don't wish this happening to my worst enemy, this really was hell on earth for us and I'm afraid it might not be over yet, worst times could very likely come according to some jeologists. I don't know if I could bear losing another loved one. I watched a video where the guy said he had to delete 500 people's contact number because they were all gone, can you imagine the pain this kind of loss brings? No one can assure anyone that they won't be the next guy to say that because of the weird zone our country is situated. This is the state of my mind as of today, I said it as it is, I know I should be strong but how? How do people do that, how do I do that for the people I love? I don't know.

Moreover a couple hours after the first earthquake, the second one hit and everybody was in shock, even the scientists. Both these earthquakes are some of the biggest ones that ever recorded in Türkiye.

Actually , that is one of the donts they strongly recommend you stay put until the shaking stops then if safe to do so try and leave the building otherwise your best chance of survival is to take shelter preferrably by lying next to your bed in a C position protecting your neck & head or near a couch or a large solid piece of furniture in case if things do collapse onto you ( eg. ceiling, other fixtures this can possibly form like a traingle type of gap that you can survive in until hopefully help arrives
@@sibelduman6291 I live in Mexico City, we've learned that we should be out in the first 30 seconds of the first earthquake, we know that after the first earthquake comes another stronger, we try to be out for at least 30 minutes after that and if it's at night we do not sleep for the next 30 minutes because history says that another more strong will come. Twice a year we are making tryals to be out in the first 30 seconds, some tragedies have been avoided because of that. I know Turkish earthquake was a tragedy, God bless them.

Actually , that is one of the donts they strongly recommend you stay put until the shaking stops then if safe to do so try and leave the building otherwise your best chance of survival is to take shelter preferrably by lying next to your bed in a C position protecting your neck & head or near a couch or a large solid piece of furniture in case if things do collapse onto you ( eg. ceiling, other fixtures this can possibly form like a traingle type of gap that you can survive in until hopefully help arrives
@@sibelduman6291 I live in Mexico City, we've learned that we should be out in the first 30 seconds of the first earthquake, we know that after the first earthquake comes another stronger, we try to be out for at least 30 minutes after that and if it's at night we do not sleep for the next 30 minutes because history says that another more strong will come. Twice a year we are making tryals to be out in the first 30 seconds, some tragedies have been avoided because of that. I know Turkish earthquake was a tragedy, God bless them.
