Plants produce waxes, which is why soils go hydrophobic. Its the fungi that break down the waxes when ph goes higher. Some bacteria, like the aneorobic ones, will also produce waxes to stop the water from escaping, but they will be down lower

Dishwashing liquid, a little bit, in a water spray bottle/can, spray on to aphids and do this until they disappear. I did this with my roses and in a couple of days they were gone.

What do you do if your garden bed has a lot of weeds growing in it? Do you pull them out or do you just top dress them with compost and coco pith?

If i had a heaps of weeds and nothing in the bed i would dig deep and turn the soil.weeds can be a sign of compaction in the soil.however weeds also carry nitrogen.i pull them let them dry or turn brown then compost them as long as its not a bad weed like stinging nettle.

If the bed was completely empty I would turn the soil over but I can't. As I still have tomatoes believe it or not growing, still producing fruit, as well as herbs and some flowers in the same bed. So I am not sure what I should do.

Yep, We've got lettuce, spinach, and kale growing in full shade.
They grow slowly, but cover the soil and you get the odd harvest too.
      Cheers!

You can create a hothouse if space is available over your existing bed and keep it warmer inside.
Id grow any lettuce or spinach type.brassicas like broccoli etc.or start planting out for next season.
Add straw maybe to keep earths warmth in.
      Many options
