I saw 50 Cent perform in Charlotte back in August, and he decided to suprise the crowd in the middle of the show by bringing out Dababy. For 3 whole songs, the entire crowd, who had been super hype the whole show, were very noticeably quieter. As soon as Dababy got off the stage people started cheering a LOT louder again.

What makes no sense to me is that DaBaby seems to be more capable in terms of technical abilities than his songs would lead you to think. Like, I have never enjoyed a DaBaby song, but I heard his freestyle on Power 106 and it was fire. And yeah, even his feature on Jail is amazing. But that’s it. Does he decide to dumb himself down or is he simply mid and it is inevitable that a repetitive artist’s least self-derivative performances stand out?
To me, Dababy just seemd kind of immature in some of his songs, like he was so reactionary. Like he had a song that had beat switches and he changed his flow, but before any of that happened he said he was going to do it because he was tired of hearing people criticize him for having the same flow. Like just do it without being petty about it my dude
I think he could have been a HUGE rapper today, obviously he had the mainstream success in 2020 but he also had great flow and rapping ability (even if it’s the same flow) and actual potential imo. He just had to fuck his career up.

I had the same sentiments even way before the Rolling Loud situation. His lyrical peak so far are features on Kanye and Dreamvilles albums that I’m afraid he might not live up to that potential even though he has the talent to prove that he can. You can say the same for Meek Mill too
His verse on big difference provides hope that he COULD come back. Lately he’s only been dropping ratchety club songs that don’t go anywhere and hopping on mostly obscure features. He has it in him, just has to learn how to not dissapoint

This is the same way i feel about rappers like 21 savage, youngboy, lil baby, gunna and durk. All redundant and terrible artist with nothing special to offer.
