All of the computer advancements of the 50s and 60s were founded upon government initiatives along with the post war period after the second World War, where contractors for the war effort directed their attention to the consumer market and began the golden age of computers and the boom in aerospace science. Federal budget funds appropriated in those fields was enormous and couple that with the collaborative effort of the European governments we now have technologies like the internet and GPS all stemming from government funded grants and loans that the free market would have likely never coughed up to begin with.

There were literally thousands of people involved in the moon landing, even armature HAM radio operators received the audio and video from space. And I seriously doubt Russia and the rest of the world would have went along with a hoax, seeing Russia was in a space race with the US at that time. It looks like video of two different landings were spliced. Of course the point of view changed between a land-based camera and the view from some kind of aircraft. But the surroundings change a lot. Are those towers in T+8:21 just between the camera that's miles away and the landing pad? Anyone know the camera position and the landing site well enough to explain those towers?

    • @seaotter52
      @seaotter52 3 роки тому +1

      Back then, that was the best way to do it. All of the initial work to figure out the complexities of rocket science was done by NASA. This is just the next phase, a phase that has been done many times before. Just one example from many. The "New World" was first explored by government. The Spanish crown funding Columbus, the British funded Drake, Raleigh, Hudson. And let's not forget Eriksson. After the government did the tough and dangerous parts, businesses then take over, and only then. For projects that are not as risky or expensive it's a toss up between entrepreneurs and big companies. Early autos, electricity come to mind. But even there, the oversight a government provides is necessary

      @ElementofKindness 3 роки тому +3

      It wouldn't been possible to do this in the 60s. The computing power required with 1960s computers, would have been bigger than the rockets themselves. The Apollo guidance computer was incredibly crude, though cutting edge for the time. In comparison, an iPhone has 100,000 times more computing power.

    • @you2be839
      @you2be839 3 роки тому

      One step at a time: you first learn to crawl, then to walk, then to run... and back then it was already difficult and super expensive to send something to space in one piece and into the right orbit that increasing the level of difficulty and complexity would almost certainly only have hindered the progress that led to where rocket science is today!

      @summerlakephotog8239 3 роки тому

      @@seaotter52 The Columbus example is not good. There was very little free enterprise capitalism in the 14 and 1500s. Even today Congressmen are lobbying for NASA contracts going to companies making disposable boosters. SpaceX is beating them in spite of government not because of it. It’s the Fords, Jobs and Musks who transform the world thanks to their vision and free market capitalism. This is my firm belief. The American Revolution was a rebellion in part against crony capitalism and corruption: England working with The East India Company to squeeze out competition and control prices.
