Omkar More I disagree with the point you made that Mr.Sen's insight into Indian Economy is questionable just because he doesn't live in India. A person like him can feel the pulse of economy even sitting in his bedroom while he has all the necessary statistics right at his hand.
One point more, those who were in India back the time when demonetization happened despite their good grip of the Indian Economy (if there long association and staying in India may allow them to be so) put up a bad show starting from the finance minister to the governor of the reserve bank issuing contradictory rules each and everyday . Certainly their long association with Indian Economy didn't make them any wiser at the cost of the harrashment f the common people.

What experience? Only as an academivian. He has been lecturing for decades in American university. Economics operates in the materialistic realm but it cannot be of much use as a subject of study, only of very limited value. This is because human nature eith its tendency to get opportunistic out of selfishness and chicanery, rivalries and jealousies. As such it makes any application of the ever changing economic theses of little value and utiliy outside a very narrow range in terms of space and time. Mathematical (econometric) models are used in order to give economics a flavour of science, but with no real success in prediction or planning. By the way, Alfred Nobel did not regard evonomics (for the above reasons) and hence NO Nobel for economics. However Nobel instituted non-science Nobel prize in the case of literature or peace, which some believe is used for geopolitical reasons. . The so miscalled Nobel prize in economics is actually a prize institited by the Swefish Royal Bank to honor the memory of A Nobel. This prize is awarded on the same occasiin as the Nobel prizes in order to reduce awarding expenditure.
That said, you "master" economics meaning the umpteen theories ("laws") and the nomenclature constructed through the last two to three centuries, produce some thesris based thereon, in well articulated and nuanced manner and take a bet for a memorial prize. "Research" papers and citations are required.
To my thinking, it is not sensible to invent any separate subject as long as it excludes the wisdom, culture, and ethos of disparate civilisations of the world.

Marjorie Bakre Are you suggesting that the study of economics is a futile process as it is in no way linked with the reality? If an economist by being an economist as he became an economist by remembering few theories related to economics is not allowed to voice his opinion then who is or are the suitable one for the same ?
Economics, going by your explanation, is a pseudo science and therefore lacks the credibility of predicting the future accurately . Okay but in economics and finance unlike science we human beings play a very crucial part and that's why I believe, accuracy can't be ascertain. At times meteriologist can't predict weather accurately still that branch counts among the science studies.
In my opinion ( where an academician is not allowed to voice his opinion , my chances are rather slim) the studies of social science, pure science, applied science compliment each other. Dynamite was invented by a scientist, he didn't envisage it as an instrument of destruction still it was used in that way. A scientist could not predict this ,how can an economist could predict economics rightly?

Nobel prize does not give him immunity to be questioned? Grow up. Truth is truth, but now a days person speaking is more important than truth.
Reality is the move of demonetization was disruption and courageous which established nexus did not like. To jump on success and failure on such drastic move in such short time itself is moronic. But yes it give some out of job people reason to be important for short period of time by blind and illogical criticizing popular person or move. Instead of that these morons might have indulge in constructive criticism and not show their political bias over professional opinion, but that is also mirage in India to expect successful professional to be performing their duties rather than passing biased personal opinions. As the corruption is a industry in India and most of the successful people are product of that industry and in the process the line of right and wrong got blurred and replaced by line of my benefit or my loss. These people miss use public platform to blind the confused segment of our population, which is a big percentage. There is saying in vedas that if you speak a lie 12 times it started seems to be true. The confused middle class in India bind themselves with TV and provide their remote to media houses, which are in itself have cozy relationship with politicians. Believe me time has gone when such morons could miss guide public. The literacy rate in India increased significantly, the penetration of internet is huge and now public is making opinion on information provided crowd sourcing and social networks.

Deepak Paliwal Neither does the PM. This is the problem with people now-a-days. If a person is flashing 10 times on television, they consider him great. Go outside 10 km away from our national highways, you will see real face of india which lies in villages. People struggle for basic amenities like food, water, electricity, etc. The people who were mostly affected were daily wagers, construction workers, etc. I have seen 1000s of people going back to villages due to so called courageous move of demonetization. Also do you even know amit shah own coopeative bank which receive more than Rs 500 crores. I mean how can u be so blind? Also the people who were caught with new currency belonged to BJP MLAs. Are you kidding me. Also, repeating lies won't make it truth. Truth is truth. The problem is few people are fed with false information since their childhood. So when they grow up, they spread hate under name of religion, cast, creed, etc. You talked about social networks on internet. I bet most people don't even know reading and writing English. Do you really think previous governments did not think about demonetization? About middle class, i think they are most educated than upper class and lower class. Upper cast people won't even care and lower cast people don't even understand. I can still write many things about what is right and what is wrong, but i think we need to ponder upon issues at hands and how to tackle those issues without killing people of India (ATM queue, remember?)

Sanity Check I do respect the post they occupy. prime minister Modi decided demonetisation with out understanding or preemptively to address rhe people as if he is the one who can deliver good things
in reality it is not denyi g the fact that he he has good oratorial ability than hos opponents. indian people expecting and languishing that any one who advances eradication of black money as an orbinger of mankind. in reality Mr. Modi neither a samaritan nor has sincere heart to eradicate corruption. if he or BJP sincere in their aim in the padt two years they would have brought measures into work to end corruption by govt servants. politicians plundet with the connivance of executives- govt employees resources of the country therebty contributing for blck money. in turn having assisted the govt servants earn and invest more black money. the people atleast have right and opportunity to admonish politicians once in five years. But ironically all along guiding the politicians namely the govt servants cannot be at any point of time be punished or removed from their position . There is no sincete effort by any govt to contain or to put in the right path of the govt servants. the people who study in private medical colleges mostly from the source of people who are thriving and fostering black money. why the govt cannot check the the individual students their background and how mucjh they paid as capitation fee. the govt has the capabilty and man power to do this. but still they do mot do it because again all the individuals to do the business are govr servants. every body knows that majority of our mps an d mlas are corrupt people. Did the demonetisation bring any of the Mlas and mps under the scanner.
However qhen i appreciate action against a few individual politicians wiyh the aim to gain political mileage why the govt did not take to reviewthe wealth of all mlas and mps councillors in all the states to check their source of income and whatever they declare legitimate or not . why the govt in the past 2 and half years dis not bring a legislation to speed up process to punish politicians who are already under the scanner of various courts.
As the noble laurate discussed there is no sincere and honest aim in the policy of Mr. Modi to eradicate corruption.
It is the wush of every honest induan citizen to expect for a sincere govt to help the poor and the have nots rather than to support people who are plunderibg the resources of this country.

policies neither of which Modi has not done, Action against offshore
accounts with illegitimate income followed by a comprehensive deployment
of new notes with advanced security features over a period of time
would have been the right and precise way to tackle the accumulated
black money as well as its generation ...?.. Whatever black money that

ignorance of Governance is arrogant stupidity.

The Looters plan of collapsing he banking system with NPAs created by them , failed in their design. Difficult for fools to know India is not Brazil or Macro Economics is not submit to fear created by looters.
Even a Chai wallah in India know Modi can not control foreign bank account specially when looters ruled this country had enough time legalize it. Major black money in foreign account was encashed by open clean re- auctioning of 2G and Coal blocks , the looters who stored money abroad ran to return the loot, when the Chai wallah filled Indian coffers with white money without spending anything on foreign litigation.

Demonetization is evil since only 6% of black money is in cash. What a stupid perspective presented by two so called intellectuals. As if 'black' jewellery is purchased through credit/ debit card. Who gave this man Nobel prize? Demonetisation makes Indian economy formal, reliable for investment. It is meant to seal the loopholes for production of black money. What we should really measure is how much demonetisation helped in prevention of black money generation.

Its 6 years down this interview ! as a hind site what we make out of the situation ? . Usually not every body is privy to most guarded secrets of nation and its economy ; but as more information trickles out to the public domain - Involvement of the printing press "De la rue" - a british plc ( in-spite of the fact India having its own ability to print currency notes) involvement of India's the then politicians in printing parallel series of currencies, involvement of foreign country to lever this facts to their own favor and at the detrimental cost to India's economy ( CAD/ Inflation etc). Now , that the notes came back to RBI ( amounting little more than official records of prints - even then discovery of stacks of High value notes kept here and there ). After the covid situation / tornado , India's (CAD / Inflation) economic situation is certainly not bad, also the gentleman's own conduct vis a vis management of an entrusted Indian university forces common people to conclude that hadvad / axford ( anglo saxon institutions ) intellectuals are in general perfidious in nature , and NOT to be TRUSTED at the face value and, that ' if you guys are smarter than a "prize" winner then you guys are appalling'.😉

  • @69krell
    @69krell 7 років тому

Most likely over 17 or 18 lakh crore has come back in old notes...thats why RBI is not disclosing the total amount thats come back and also the reason they stopped accepting old notes...total fuck up...going to screw the economy if this happens.
