A beautiful woman's beautiful version of a beautiful song written by a beautiful man. John Prine was a national treasure.
YES!!!!!!
❤❤
Well said, to say the least. A kindred spirit in speech.
All that beauty - AMAZING talent!
Sweet Jesus, JP would weep..
“Summer’s end came faster than we wanted.” That line always hits hard.
Makes you want to move huh
"Summer's lease hath all too short a date". Shakespeare always nails it!
It occurred to me that this is likely the last Summer my daughter will live at home before launching out to be a ‘real grown-up.’ I selfishly want Summer to stay just a little longer.
Always!!!!!
Yeah, where I live it's nearly 2/3 over already.
You know, I have played the guitar for over fifty years and I am pretty good at it. Then I get on UA-cam and see all the young women playing guitars and not only can they play better than me, for some reason they all have to be gorgeous as well. Life just isn't fair. : )
I thought that I had better edit this and add that no I am not being a creepy old man, I am genuinely admiring their skills on the guitar. As I sit here typing this, two of my guitars are looking at me saying "play me, play me". I think I will.
Dinodas Bunce.....never give up your gift playing your guitar. Until a disability takes that gift away, like myself, you are doing something that makes you happy. I thank God for the time I "had". I am disappointed, a little, but I know "one day it will come back". Enjoy all these young folks and their gift of music making.....it is amazing. God is Good!
@@bluegrassrules9967 Actually there was a period a few years ago that I thought that I was going to lose the ability to play guitar. I was quickly losing the ability to bend the fingers on my left hand. It seemed like it was getting more painful every day. So I bought a bass guitar (a Hofner). I knew from previous experience playing bass in a band that you can play bass pretty much flat fingered without losing the ability to play great bass lines. I could still play a guitar, a bass guitar. I continued working on playing my other guitars until just a few day ago I realized that the pain in my left hand was gone and I have no idea when that happened. The bottom line? Now I get to play both six string guitars and bass guitar. Happy days.
Hey there. Sierra Hull is one of the best. It’s like saying you can’t play basketball like Michael Jordan so no point in playing basketball for fun. Btw - this is not a guitar, although she does play guitar really well too. This is something in the mandolin family.
Very beautiful cover. Love her voice. John would have loved this version
I love that Bluegrass brought me to John Prine; lots of "normal" people missed out on a real treasure.
I think the biggest understatement on youtube is Sarah saying, "I finally decided to learn it.". I think she has a different tuning, but the re-voiced triads and finger picking pay a wonderful tribute to the orchestrated multi instrumented original. John is gone, but I hope that Sierra continues to play this forever. Great job.
Sierra (beautiful Spanish name, as Spanish I am). Walking to 65 yo in next days and everything you play moves me and makes me a bit more happy. Thank you so much!! Love you.
One of the best things I’ve ever heard... fek me, that was good.
John Prine would be so proud of what you have done with this song and arrangement!!!
Just Beautiful! My New Favorite!
Beautiful Sierra!!!
The immense beauty of your soul comes through in your music and brightens my day
All I can say is “beautiful “.
Beautiful sounding instrument, beautifully played to accompany a beautiful song, beautifully sung by a beautiful woman. John has to be smiling.
WOW...just WOW !!!!!!
Your playing has always been note perfect, emotional, but your voice is divine, like an angel. John Prine must have a tear in his heavenly eye.
You literally took my breath away.
I looked up the other versions of this song and then quickly realized that this is my favorite version.
Never a foot wrong. Beautiful in every way. Perfect.
The best! Love that upper course string tuned a whole step down. The harmonics at 2:50 are such a sweet touch
This is the best cover of this tune that I've ever heard.
I'll see this cover, and raise you a Madison Cunningham ... ua-cam.com/video/mq_W_20kVt4/v-deo.html
Just awake. Took my phone just to wait that the frozen bread thaw.
Clicked on UA-cam and there you were...... on top of the row.
I clicked on the link and there it was.
Beautifull song, great mandolin playing style and a lovely lay back voice. I never had heard this song before.
57 years live and music experience but you hit me directly right in the middle of my heart. Tears in my eyes from the joy of this music and the story you sang.
My weekend could not be start better.
You understand the meaning and "the trick" how to play music.
Go on. 👍
I discovered this song by the great John Prine while my Dad was in the hospital dying. It haunts me. I still love that picture of us walking......
Its good to see her testing new musical waters, yet not lose her self at all. She hasn’t let her popularity change who she is, which is why she is becoming more and more popular. Even so, I would like to see her take the next step and maybe host or be a part of an award show like the CMA‘s or induction into the Hall of Fame or something that gets her name to those who do not know who she is yet. Her management needs to encourage her and set the stage for her next step. Just my opinion
Yeah seems like newgrass is distinct enough from the Country Music Industry I'd hate to see her get gobbled up and spat out by that machine. Broadening your "brand" always comes with a risk of chasing the trend instead of being yourself. What's been magical about following Sierra's career so far is watching her find her unique voice - I'd hate to see her have to start answering to someone else. Go watch Taylor Swift's biopic, y'know right?
@@nixonkutz3018 Sierra seems to call the shots, but IMHO she definitely needs a hit to get to the next level. Her songs are great no doubt but it's time for the masses to be able to know a song that's by her, and I don't mean Best Buy- as fun as that song is. She needs a world-class hit, maybe even if she's a major contributor of someone else's hit. Prolly a guitar hit that's more than just her alone as a singer songwriter. Her problem may be just the thing I like most about her.... how wholesome she is. It's hard having a wholesome hit these days without some sort of clever sexy double entendre. I just wrote one for ther new Ford Bronco that they're introducing;
"BRONCO.... Bucking Awesome!"
She needs that type of clever word play, but it's just not her thing, so a co-writer may be necessary. Again, jmho.
A beautiful tribute to one of the greatest American songwriters. Thanks Ms Hull.
Your Dad said to practice your mandolin but did he know that you would have the voice of an angel ? Beautifully done. Thank you. 🙏✌️👍🎸😎
Such a great song..but so sad..The words shimmer...This is the definitive version
Beautiful John would have been proud. Great singing!
Sierra, Sierra... the old soul... crazy good
You never cease to amaze me.
Picture perfect, sound perfect . . . as always! Thank you, Sierra, for such a loving tribute to one of our National treasures. As an additional nod to the Great One, the very first song I ever performed in a public venue while in college was Angel From Montgomery, and that was way back in 1979 . . . You handled this one with love and care.
Beautiful. Such genuine emotional depth in your playing and singing.
He'd be very proud of this, and so glad the next generation is embracing his music.
I'm not crying. YOU'RE crying!
This is achingly beautiful. Wow - thanks for sharing.
The Angels are among us...and they sing sweet songs and play so beautifully!
Simply beautiful. Thank you.
Heartfelt tribute to a national treasure. We miss you, John.
Hi Sierra, That was amazing. John went to the same high school...Proviso East in Maywood , Illinois that my older brother (God bless his soul) and my older sister and my younger brother and I went to. It's so amazing to see and hear all the great musicians out there paying tribute to a man my brother told me about when I was 15 years old (I'm 55 now). Heard John the first time on either Soundstage (public TV) or what was called Sunday Night Unconcert sponsored by 7-up a long time ago. Doesn't matter which one. You have a great voice. My amazing wife and I just listened and she suggested I message you. THANK YOU and all the best to you and your family and to all other John Prine fans out there!
Simply Beautiful.Brother Al
Pure beauty and poetry.
This song is heavy but beautiful. It’s about opioid addiction but it’s hard to pick up on that without seeing Prine’s video.
SPINYMAN I’m not mistaken when it’s literally in print on the screen in Prine’s video, and in the dedication at the end of the song. Have to see it
Man, this song. I always marvel at the great songwriters' guts to write simple lines like this and just trust that in combination with the melody, something complex, rich, and emotionally overwhelming will happen. I always end up being too wordy, because I have the effect in mind. The greats, like Prine and Dylan and Reed and Mitchell and Waits and McCartney and Newman and Cohen, they just use simple ingredients and cook up something that devastates you with flavor. Oh, and Sierra Hull on an octave mandolin, well that's just a huge helping of Tirami Su for dessert ...
What a beautiful song
Thank you Sierra. RIP JOHN PRINE 🕊🌻🌧💐🌨🌻🕊
Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you!
Wow, this was posted at 11:00 pm California time. Beautiful song Sierra. - Justice Constantine
angel
When I watch you I am reminded of how proud your mom and dad must be.
What a pure thought, thats nice
Just beautiful.
John Prine and Sierra Hull are both national treasures. The loss of John is so tragic but at least we know his songs will always be with us and as long as we have people like Sierra Hull to produce such beautiful renditions we can all rest a little easier knowing that his music and the stories he brought to this world are in good hands.
Most excellent. Thank you.
Amazing rendition..., it made my heart ache for John Prine. Rest in Peace song bird... go fly with those pigeons.
"You never know how far from home you're feeling until you've the watched the shadows cross the ceiling." That's called being so down and out you can only lie on your back and stare up at ceiling... all damn day.
I discovered the largest interval in music is John Prines voice singing in D and Sierra singing in D#.
You can say so much with your heart, all you have to do listen! Sadly most people do not listen. "Come on home, come on home, you don't have to be alone."
Hauntingly beautiful. You just made all of John’s other songs jealous.
Sierra has an amazing voice!
This was an awesome surprise. She’s a wonderful artist with an amazing voice
An essentially perfect performance, any way you look at it.
Angelic voice
Wonderfully touching, you brought this Old man to tears this morning.
That was pretty good, not bad, I can't complain....but actually it was quite stunning...great tribute to John there Sierra...please keep them coming!
Beautiful hullcinated!!
XXX !!! Feels like commin' home :)
So touching. Thank you Sierra for that loving tribute.
This song has been haunting me for about a week. An ear worm that doesn't bother because it's stays fresh after many repeats. It's a late career masterpiece that I expect will be remembered as one of John Prine's finest. Sierra's cover here reflects the song's simple poignancy.
Magnificent!
Trust me, record that song!!!!! Like just a few over dubs. Maybe a bass and a little percussion, a harmony and short instrumental. Keep it simple. This song has “hit” for you written all over it. Beautifully done ❤️ and RIP John Prine.
Thank you. Having a lost a daughter to opioids, tis song means a lot to me. Beautiful rendition.
What a Voice!!!!
Love it! Loved you and Jason in Houston at the Heights Theatre !!!
Excellent interpretation, Sierra!
Sierra hull has strength to wash away sin. Please keep up your music.

A beautiful version of John's lovely song. Thank you.

This is my first time hearing you. Beautiful voice and a beautiful rendition of one of my favorite John Prine songs.
Very nice..

Thank you, Sierra Hull!!!!!! I love John Prine's songs. I only wish I had seriously discovered how beautiful his music was until the last 6 months of his life. So glad that his music is inspiring some of my favorite young artists!!!
Beautiful
Great song, great version. Somewhere, John is smiling.
hypnotic elegance! Just beautiful... thank you for sharing!
I thought I was more or less past the passing of John Prine... but no. This one stings.
(Nicely done)
Thank you. So beautiful. God bless us all😢
John would have absolutely loved this!
Wow!
OMG Sierra you are so wonderful I love your music, I've been singing John Prine since the 70's , singing his songs made us better !!!!
Just.... Amazing!
A wonderful, beautiful tribute to a wonderful artist. Thank you this cover Sierra!
Wow. Beautiful rendition. Just like Bonnie Raitt's rendition of "Angel from Montgomery" was special, Sierra really made this song her own.
Beautiful voice!! Since I discovered your channel I've been introduced to more and more music! Thank you so much for you incredible covers and for sharing your talent with the world.
The wrinkle in the wallpaper that's right above the head stock and goes up the the right diagonally killed me.
It’s a blanket
Beautiful.
You killed it! Fantastic job!! I know John would have been delighted to hear this
