- Can someone be taught to take a great photograph? Three decades ago, Pulitzer Prize-winner Eddie Adams and his wife, Alyssa, created a workshop at their barn in upstate New York, where veterans could teach emerging photographers how to take better pictures. Maurice DuBois attends a workshop session and speaks with Pulitzer Prize-winners Caroline Cole, John Filo, Carol Guzy and John H. White about what they hope to pass on to their students.

The key to the quote, “f8 and be there” is the “be there”. I know many photographers who seemed to have scribbled down the “f8” part. I would love to take part in a workshop like the one mentioned.
Thank you for such a great story
"...a picture can be worth a thousand words." That phrase has changed over time. I remember as a kid being told that a picture IS worth a thousand words, but therebhas been a definite change since then.
What do think that change is?
For me a great image is a paradox of time. 1 second in real time is fast in photography though it is very slow. 500/1 is fast but if it is a great image than it can captures someone’s attention for a long time.
As a photographer myself! You have to capture it! Before it’s gone! We’ll never be in that moment again!
You use! Exclamation point! Too much!
The blonde haired photographer. You can see the people pouring their heart, burdens, and heart into her. They believe in her soul. Whereas in others good or bad, they put an "eminence front."
It’s not captioned!
Great story.
Hello fellow photographers, I’m debating becoming a photojournalist or freelancer, any tips or advice, what’s a golden rule of yours?
What’s a freelancer?
Really Great piece
Wonder what cameras they use
Haha: would you ask a great chef what kind of pans they use?
it;s not the camera! Camera is just the tool. Remember, the greatest photojournalists of all times did not have "fancy" "advanced" cameras we have today. It was one frame at a time, all manual focus, they did not have the luxury of changing ISO on the fly either. IT'S NEVER THE CAMERA! ALWAYS THE PHOTOGRAPHER!
Pretentious of you people to say that, when you have high-end DSLR's or fancy mirrorless cameras. Yes, it's not the camera, but a good camera helps a lot.
Damn he just wanted know their camera
is this a nikon promottion video?
They want to use the best!
Whats wrong ?
06:50...thats why i rather enjoy my job, my career and freedom and the ONLY girlfriend, partner in crime who wont let me down......
....what about a camera??
I have a gift for photography 1:49
Did the photojournalist use any rules of taking photo like third rule or golden ratio?
Why is she smiling when talking about the police shooting the viet kong prisoner
Maybe a coping mechanism?
Blabbering
Yes you are blabbering.
