    Man, that looks super simple. I'm definitely not afraid to tackle taking a shock apart now, nor will I ever pay someone to work on my shocks again. I paid King like $150 to replace a shaft and seals once. Never again!

    Very nice bro....I used to do my own mx shocks and fairly confident I could redo one of these....plus king is right down the street if I need parts

    Thanks for posting up this video, Ive got a set of HKS coilovers for my R32 skyline, one shock's been stripped by the previous owner who i bought them off but looking at the internals of that and the internals of the one you rebuild, they dont look too different so i'm gonna try rebuilding my coilovers thanks to your vid. Just one question though, how much pressure do you fill your shocks too, ive been told HKS needs 85psi nitrogen seems abit too much to me though.

    Im also confused about the floating piston height in the nitrogen resovior, if all my fluid has leaked out Im assuming the floating piston location is incorrect. Is this something I should be concerned about or am I missing something? Thanks for the video, a rebuild is less intimidating now Ive seen you do it.

    @down4glamis Alot of people have made mention about the IFP we simply ran out of time. We did include bleeding out the air when the person in the video turned it upside down...

    How often do you rebuild this shocks
    This is a draw back for me for getting in to kings

  • @dirtlifemagazine
    @dirtlifemagazine  12 років тому

    @DJTONER1 I don't think you want it to fully compress. Shocks don't make good bumpstops. I haven't opened up a Race Runner shock before.

    Amazing video thank you !! Think you could give me a hand with how much nitrogen I would need and oil type for my shocks

    • @Chinese_Chicken
      @Chinese_Chicken 5 років тому

      King shock oil is what I use in my King and ADS shocks on my truck, I use the same with my FOX shocks on my SXS. A gallon of oil was $40 off Amazon. 2.5" shocks @ 180-200 psi seems to work well for me.

    @TheMadRaver That's a hard one to answer without seeing it. It sounds like it needs a rebuild.

    Is there a level of oil refill or how much do I have to fill

  • @TheAngryHusky
    @TheAngryHusky 13 років тому

    Question.
    I just bought an icon setup from a buddy that went long travel.
    I accidentally twisted the res on the piggyback while cleaning the shock and needless to say, I lost pressure and a little bit of oil.
    Can I just recharge the shock with nitrogen or should I send it in and rebuild it?
    Thanks

  • @dirtlifemagazine
    @dirtlifemagazine  14 років тому

    @BajaGuy21 We will keep that in mind. Might have to wait to get the shock on a truck. The next one is going to be how to shorten a bumpstop.

    Should the shaft on my racerunner 2.5 8" coilovers go all the way in the body? Mine seems to stop about 3/16" to 1/4" inch from full compression.

  • @gacandido2010

    if im changing oil in 2.5 with remote resi, do i just fill the body? or do i have to to open the resi?

    How do I determine what valve pack I should use? I have a Silverado crew cab and don't know what pack to run on the rear, running mazzulla hangers and shackles, king 2.5 triple bypass but don't know what valving

      Call King, they'll send you a valve stack.

  • @chasel5215

    I bought Triple Bypasses from a local shop and put them on my truck myself without revalving them accotding to my truck. they are super stiff and need to go from where it is now which is a 20/10 stack down to a 12/10 stack. what shims do I remove and how many (rebound...compression..Larger ..smaller)? Also I dont have availability to fill up nitrogen myself.....could I put them on and then drive over to a shop and have them refill the reservior without hurting the shock? I look forward to your response @prerunnermaniac

    • @ocmuffler
      @ocmuffler 7 років тому

      I would take them apart and see what you have. Make sure they don't having any added shims to the stack. a Normal stack is 7 shims. When you go up or down you change the whole stack. ( but you can tune them how ever you see fit ) The shim stack towards the shock shaft is the compression side and the other is the rebound. It won't hurt the shock with no nitrogen, In would drive it straight over and fill it up. I would jack up the truck and take the weight off of the shock while filling it up.

    Where did you set the floating piston

  • @dirtlifemagazine

    It should be but since we haven't opened up a Race Runner I can't be for sure.

  • @down4glamis
    @down4glamis 14 років тому

    @prerunnermaniac Yea thats best way to clear the tubes of any air, but there is a small air pocket that occurs willing putting the piston/seal cap in. setting the IFP helps the final process. sorry to critique, if you guys need a hand just send me an email.

    why didnt u rebuild the ifp?

  • @dirtlifemagazine
    @dirtlifemagazine  11 років тому

    Yes the coil springs are what extend the shock back. In this case you would need some sort of spring in conjunction with the bypass shock. If you want to see us install some bypass shocks check out our video on how to install a bedcage.

  • @dirtlifemagazine

    I don't know about HKS shocks exactly but 85 psi is about right. I think we put about 90 in our shock.

    • @manddy05554
      @manddy05554 6 років тому

      prerunnermaniac I know this is a old video but that’s seems kinda low on the nitrogen level. Generally we run 200 in our shocks. I haven’t seen someone run anything under 150 in a shock

    • @rcmadness13
      @rcmadness13 6 років тому

      Yeah, if you noticed he isn’t even filling with nitrogen. He’s using compressed air!!! 0.0 big nono moisture corrodes aluminum eventually and there’s not enough pressure

    • @Chinese_Chicken
      @Chinese_Chicken 5 років тому +1

      @Ebktilltheday, nitrogen tanks have air hoses that he used. It's what I fill my tires with.
