Angela’s actor knocked it out of the park, the distress in her voice sounded so genuine and had an intonation that really sounded full of dread rather than pure fear. You can tell what she’s afraid of is rooted in trauma and not just reacting to stuff around her. I had to sit quietly for a solid 20 minutes to shake off how horrible it left me feeling.
The people in the chat saying stuff like "SUB TEL" and basically just downplaying the Angela part are infuriating. I don't know if they're being ironic (I hope so) but jeez guys, form an actual opinion out of a full sentence instead of just grossly oversimplifying the scenario.
I really loved the performances of the "Aren't you Maria?" cutscene - shame that is was kinda undercut by that unnecessary comment from chat, I personally wouldn't have bothered to read it out loud.
James' performance was very good, especially him getting defensive and a bit pissed when Maria starts to talk about the videotape. It's like the "James who did it" resurfaces for a short time, only to be completely defused by Maria's touch. Though I think the new Maria is a bit off in her delivery... In the original game, this is the scene where the true purpose of Maria is revealed. She's a creature the town created to torment James. OG Maria brilliantly played the scene with a sinister yet alluring delivery. The line "I'm not your Mary" said in a ice cold tone like she was accusing him was better imo. Remake Maria plays it less sinister imo, she lacks that "push and pull" attitude the OG Maria had, where you could feel she's actually dangerous and that James is completely confused about this.
I adore this playthrough so far, my favorite bits are when Vincent Vineathan walks in circles missing staircases because he's talking about coiled poopie or late night hosts.
I don't remember if it was like this in the first game because the abstract daddy fight was so much shorter, but the sequence of the game directly placing the "choose the justified criminal" puzzle before encountering Angela was extremely clever.

Another silent hill stream thiw one containing the part that a lot of chatters probably felt the most discomforted by. I didn't have that much of a reaction to it personally, but they did an exceptional job at remaking it
The monster is called "Abstract Daddy" and it looks like a large humanoid figure writhing around on top of another, smaller humanoid. Angela acts kind of like a kid, like she's emotionally stunted, and the Otherworld you fight the AD in breaks down into imagery of, among other things, pistons rhythmically pounding into holes. I mean, it's not hard to connect the dots. Angela's a CSA survivor.
It's exactly what you may imagine, and it's handled well; in my opinion. Angela constantly acting like a child whenever James speaks loudly to her and how she needs to find her mama. It's fucked up
Maybe this is just a me thing... My only real gripe with James' actor is how much he leaves his mouth hanging open in cutscenes. Like I get it's hard to convey confusion and conflict through expression alone, but my guy looks like he's got a stuffy nose
On the one hand I fully understand wanting to expand on the Abstract Daddy fight as its one of the most impactful moments in the game and wanting to make that fight more engaging as an actual gameplay experience, but on the other hand I kind of hate how Bloober Team bloobered all over this section. Also I'm sorry but the maria scene is sooooooo neutered compared to the original. I don't know how the hell they were supposed to follow up on that scene in the original but this really was a let down. Again, it's like they didn't even try because they knew they couldn't match it.
I don’t know; I didn’t think it was really all that distasteful. Honestly, aside from just making it 1 to 1 with the original, I’m not sure how else they could have executed it (the Abstract Daddy fight, I mean).
It was unfortunate they just skipped over the labyrinth and straight to the Angela bit, and then straight to the Maria bit. Still they did ok with all this.
Sorry vinny but i don't believe dinosaurs existed, i believe they were dragons: "Water also is one of the four elements, the most beautiful of God's creations. It is both wet and cold, heavy, and with a tendency to descend, and flows with great readiness. It is this the Holy Scripture has in view when it says, And darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters(8). For the deep is nothing else than a huge quantity of water whose limit man cannot comprehend. In the beginning, indeed, the water lay all over the surface of the earth. And first God created the firmament to divide the water above the firmament from the water below the firmament. For in the midst of the sea of waters the firmament was established at the Master's decree. And out of it God bade the firmament arise, and it arose. Now for what reason was it that God placed water above the firmament? It was because of the intense burning heat of the sun and ether(1). For immediately under the firmament is spread out the ether(2), and the sun and moon and stars are in the firmament, and so if water had not been put above it the firmament would have been consumed by the heat(3). Next, God bade the waters be gathered together into one mass(4). But when the Scrip ture speaks of one mass it evidently does not mean that they were gathered together into one place: for immediately it goes on to say, And the gatherings of the waters He called seas(5): but the words signify that the waters were separated off in a body from the earth into distinct groups. Thus the waters were gathered together into their special collections and the dry land was brought to view. And hence arose the two seas that surround Egypt, for it lies between two seas. These collections contain(6) various seas and mountains, and islands, and promontories, and harbours, and surround various bays and beaches, and coastlands. For the word beach is used when the nature of the tract is sandy, while coastland signifies that it is rocky and deep close into shore, getting deep all on a sudden In like manner arose also the sea that lies where the sun rises, the name of which is the Indian Sea: also the northern sea called the Caspian. The lakes also were formed in the same manner. The ocean, then, is like a river encircling the whole earth, and I think it is concerning it that the divine Scripture says, A river went ant of Paradise(7). The water of the ocean is sweet and potable(8). It is it that furnishes the seas with water which, because it stays a long time in the seas and stands unmoved, becomes bitter: for the sun and the waterspouts draw up always the finer parts. Thus it is that clouds are formed and showers take place, because the filtration makes the water sweet. This is parted into four first divisions, that is to say, into four rivers. The name of the first is Pheison, which is the Indian Ganges; the name of the second is Geon, which is the Nile flowing from Ethiopia down to Egypt: the name of the third is Tigris, and the name of the fourth is Euphrates. There are also very many other mighty rivers of which some empty themselves into the sea and others are used up in the earth. Thus the whole earth is bored through and mined, and has, so to speak, certain veins through which it sends up in springs the water it has received from the sea. The water of the spring thus depends for its character on the quality of the earth. For the sea water is filtered and strained through the earth and thus becomes sweet. But if the place from which the spring arises is bitter or briny, so also is the water that is sent up(9). Moreover, it often happens that water which has been closely pent up bursts through with violence, and thus it becomes warm. And this is why they send forth waters that are naturally warm. By the divine decree hollow places are made in the earth, and so into these the waters are gathered. And this is how mountains are formed. God, then, bade the first water produce living breath, since it was to be by water and the Holy Spirit that moved upon the waters in the beginning(1), that man was to be renewed. For this is what the divine Basilius said: Therefore it produced living creatures, small and big; whales and dragons, fish that swim in the waters, and feathered fowl. The birds form a link between water and earth and air: for they have their origin in the water, they live on the earth and they fly in the air. Water, then, is the most beautiful element and rich in usefulness, and purifies from all filth, and not only from the filth of the body but from that of the soul, if it should have received the grace of the Spirit(2). Concerning the seas(3). The AEgean Sea is received by the Hellespont, which ends at Abydos and Sestus: next, the Propontis, which ends at Chalcedon and Byzantium: here are the straits where the Pontus arises. Next, the lake of Maeotis. Again, from the beginning of Europe and Libya it is the Iberian Sea, which extends from the pillars of Hercules to the Pyrenees mountain. Then the Ligurian Sea as far as the borders of Etruria. Next, the Sardinian Sea, which is above Sardinia and inclines downwards to Libya. Then the Etrurian Sea, which begins at the extreme limits of Liguria and ends at Sicily. Then the Libyan Sea. Then the Cretan, and Sicilian, and Ionian, and Adriatic Seas, the last of which is poured out of the Sicilian Sea, which is called the Corinthian Gulf, or the Alcyonian Sea. The Saronic Sea is surrounded by the Sunian and Scylaean Seas. Next is the Myrtoan Sea and the Icarian Sea, in which are also the Cyclades. Then the Carpathian, and Pamphylian, and Egyptian Seas: and, thereafter, above the Icarian Sea, the AEgean Sea pours itself out. There is also the coast of Europe from the mouth of the Tanais River to the Pillars of Hercules, 609,709 stadia: and that of Libya from the Tigris, as far as the mouth of the Canobus, 209,252 stadia: and lastly, that of Asia from the Canobus to the Tanais, which, including the Gulf, is 4,111 stadia. And so the full extent of the seaboard of the world that we inhabit with the gulfs is 1,309,072 stadia." - An Exposition of the Orthodox Faith (Book II) Chapter 9: Concerning Ghe Waters - Saint John Of Damascus
I really dislike Angela's new VA. It's not like she's doing a bad job, but her voice is just so... bland, just your average TV/movie teen voice. Doesn't even come close to original performance.
@krunkle5136 I don't think vocal fry is odd in a minor who's character is sexually traumatized, living in her own hell and in a state of chronic high stress. You know that place when you're about to cry and your throat gets all tight and achy? The original characters voice was also not plain, I think you need to go back and listen. She over acted, over enunciated, would add snark and passive aggressiveness and draw out certain words and syllables, she was VERY harsh. She didn't sound like a child who was dealing with trauma, she sounded like an embittered adult who was fueled by spite lol. I like the VA in the original when contained in the original. But there's no doubt that the VA in the remake is objectively better and matches the characters better.
@FleshMelter I get what you mean. I'm more on the awkward vocal delivery camp. When I said plain I didn't mean under acted, just that it was more raw and atypical. The newer one is more polished for sure. Maybe what I didn't like more was the addition of music. The original had more of an ambient metallic noise thing going on that sounded more hostile and not as melodic, like it's coddling her and the audience. The original Angela always struck me as an adult in her late 20s. It would've never struck me if I didn't read the Wiki that she was supposed to be a teenager. The newer voice acting does fit the age she was supposed to be, but idk, I preferred the character as a adult who's been dealing with trauma for a longer time than a girl.
I have not been to impressed with this remake but the section with Angela and the Abstract Daddy genuinely unnerved me and gave my goosebumps. They did a great job with the boss fight and the heartfelt performances of the characters. Unfortunately right after that we go back to busy work in the labyrinth where everythings draaags and we pade out the run time of this game. I just wish this remake was about 25 per cent shorter.

Her father and brother were raping her as a child/teen
It's exactly what you may imagine, and it's handled well; in my opinion. Angela constantly acting like a child whenever James speaks loudly to her and how she needs to find her mama. It's fucked up
Get out of here bots.
Sorry vinny but i don't believe dinosaurs existed, i believe they were dragons:
"Water also is one of the four elements, the most beautiful of God's creations.
But when the Scrip
ture speaks of one mass it evidently does not mean that they were gathered together into one place: for immediately it goes on to say, And the gatherings of the waters He called seas(5): but the words signify that the waters were separated off in a body from the earth into distinct groups.
There is also the coast of Europe from the mouth of the Tanais River to the Pillars of Hercules, 609,709 stadia: and that of Libya from the Tigris, as far as the mouth of the Canobus, 209,252
stadia: and lastly, that of Asia from the Canobus to the Tanais, which, including the Gulf, is 4,111 stadia.
The original performance sounded like a 37 year old woman who works at an office. Not a 17 year old girl, this voice actually fits the character.
I noticed a bit of vocal fry which sounded odd. The old Angela voice was more plain and less overly articulated.
