Definitely had that “Seattle iciness” like you read about, but not in a bad way. He signed an autograph for me, and patiently put up with me fanboying him...
@Quinn Stewart Damn, that must be frustrating! But at least you still have somewhat of a memory that you can cherish & enjoy retrospectively. I know it isn't the same thing, but I gotta admit that is still f*cking awesome!
Its amazing really. We, and I have been following this man since the late 80's. Listening to his music, deciphering his lyrics. Its the soundtrack of my life and many of our lives here. You get a sense that you know him. Someone that has had such an impact in my life and he does not even know who I was, or most of us were. When I hear that he was such a patient man in real life and stories like yours where he puts up with fans saying the same thing he probably heard a million times, its appreciated. Lol there was no storm, Chris Cornell was just playing around. It's just a group of local musician friends hanging out together after having just seen The Cult perform in concert in Seattle. Afterwards they're all on Ian Astbury's tour bus shooting the sh*t. You can even see Astbury at the end of the video wearing the bandana, smoking and talking to Cornell. You gotta remember this footage was shot in 1989 and Cornell (and Soundgarden) had already started to take off with their music. Andrew Wood was already a local celebrity as well, first with Malfunkshun and then Mother Love Bone. Stone and Jeff were in Green River and then Mother Love Bone etc. Literally every guy sitting on that bus were local music celebrities from around Seattle (along with their girlfriends), that's how they got to be sitting there in the first place, hanging out on that bus with Ian Astbury.
I don't know year when this was recorded but I guess few months before Wood's death. Chris wrote "Reach Down" and "Say Hello to Heaven", in tribute to his friend and I think Alice in Chains wrote the song 'Would' in tribute to Andrew as well. Many bands dedicated songs or albums in memory of Andrew as Faster Pussycat, War Babies, Candlebox. He died only days before release the band debut album. @@Max_Vicious I'm 42 years old but found my writing and drawing book from when I was 10 and in 5th grade. I wrote a Christmas story loosely copied off the movie Back to the Future. It was Christmas morning and a bunch of kids most likely my own age at the time, 10 were grumbling when they're parents told them it was time to go get out of pajamas and dressed for church. They moan and groan, etc, but the younger brother says it's time to use it. My invention. Of course it's a time machine. Other neighborhood friends who didn't want to go to church either snuck out. Their plan was to go back in time and be there for the very first Christmas so they could say they were there for the real thing so they never had to go to church again. So the kids all pack in. Boom, there they are in crowded Bethlehem... In a puff of smoke, startled the townspeople planning on staying at the inn... So it was then really easy to find a very pregnant Mary sitting on a donkey with Joseph calming everyone down and now there were plenty of vacancies at the Inn. The children introduced themselves, the brother who created the time machine translating English to Hebrew, says, "Isn't this great?! Now your baby Jesus can be born inside the Inn. If we didn't show up, there was gonna be no room and you were gonna end up staying in the stable with the animals, with no real bed for your baby. You would have to lay him in the manger in that itchy hay where the animals eat out of and poop all over the place... continued in next comment...
@@Max_Vicious continued.. Mary and Joseph were happy to have a room in the Inn with all the accomodations. But kept questioning the children about the machine they arrived in. Kept asking after baby Jesus was born if their coming from the future to help them may cause more harm than good. Anyhow the children decided it was time to back to 1988. In my story instead of showing they deleted themselves, I explained no one knew Jesus was ever born. He was not recognized by anyone as our true Lord and Savior. The star over Bethlehem lead the wisemen and shepards to an empty stable. Being that Mary and Joseph had the baby in the Inn made it too easy for King Herod to find this Baby Jesus who was to be the king. Mary and Joseph were blindsided and not where scripture would have had them safe from being found by King Herod's men and baby Jesus was killed. The light of the world was gone and all thought our Jesus was another prediction of a savior who never was. When the children returned, their time machine arrived right where it left from, but nothing was the same. It was a ghost town. Their parents were gone, their house was gone and the children didn't realize they were invisible to the zombie like people who roamed the streets in rags. But one man, the town seer who was very old did see them. He looked like Santa Claus but was not fat and jolly or in a red suit. But the children realized the old man could see them so they panicked, asked many questions and what year was it. The man replied it was the 1,988th year of darkness. Then he looked at the kids again and looked in his crystal ball and said to them it's you!! It's your fault! Let me show you! You were children who interfered and changed the future forever! The children looked into the crystal ball. There was no Jesus. There were no apostles. No new testament. No eternal life. No Christmas. No Easter. It was horrible. The children felt horrible. They asked what the gentleman's name was. He said Chris. He told them they don't exist. That only because he was a seer he could see them but that they must go back in time and fix their mistake. They must go back in time about a day before Mary and Joseph were waiting in line at the Inn. Be as discreet as possible and hide the time machine in a desolate area, away from the center of town... Continued.
@@Max_Vicious they were to dress in clothes that Hebrews wore back then and quietly blend in to keep Bethlehem crowded, make sure Mary and Joseph had baby Jesus in the stable, lay asleep in the manger for the Shepard's to see and the wisemen to warn as they brought their gifts that they must hide baby Jesus because King Herod is looking to kill him. Once that is said and done, and they "fixed everything" to immediately come back to 1988. The world will once again be as they remembered it. So they did as Chris said. Everything was back to normal in Bethlehem and when they got back home, their house and family was all there. They were so happy. They destroyed the time machine. Their parents said ok, come on. It's time for church. They gave their parents no problem, got ready and appreciated church and God"s way of doing things so much more than before. They were thankful. As they left church, a Jolly Santa Claus rang his bell in the street and shouted ho, ho, hi, merry Christmas!! He looked at the children leaving church smiled and said thank you for being such good girls and boys! The boy who built the time machine looked at Santa Claus and said, " Chris?" Santa winked back and said ,"Ho, ho, ho. Why yes. Chris Kringle it is!" Santa gave a thumbs up and never again did the children ever have a desire to go back in time to change anything. The end.
I don’t think Stone understood Chris’s sense of humor, yet they were both born on July 20 in Seattle, Chris was born in the year of the Dragon and Stone was born in the year of the Horse

This is awesome! Funny, they were so young back then, acting like total 20-somethings.. I'm a '90s baby, and I'm almost in my 30s now.. its funny to watch it, and think, "cool kids"
So many people don't realize Ian Astbury was an influence, as well as friend to these now Iconic "Grunge" legends, and was really close to Andrew Wood. The Cult were ironically an influence on the very thing most people mistakenly think stopped them.
I don't think he was close to Andy but Ian and The Cult was a huge influence for all them for sure not only the Grunge guys but even some bands from the 80s
@@y_0886 Nope. They met each other and hung out. Saying Ian was a huge influence music-wise is a massive stretch, it's more like Ian saw the hints that these guys were going to be the next big thing and so he clung on to them trying to stay relevant. Andrew was fully aware that's what Ian was trying to do, but he didn't really mind. After all Ian was one more rockstar for Andy to have his picture taken with, cementing Andy's legendariness. It was a mutually beneficial relationship and I don't think Andy would appreciate people acting as if Ian helped create Andy in any way. They were a little more than acquaintances, a lot less than best friends or "close". They both liked to party the same way in their off-time, so it was an easy friendship.
I'm new but becoming a huge mother love bone fan! Love singing with Andy. On the internet U can do anything, learn anything, visit anywhere, & met & hang with anyone 😉. I love living in 2022. U will reconnect with all of their spirit
This is most likely 1989. The Cult Sonic Temple came out in April of 1989, and they are talking about Dave Holland formerly of Judas Priest who left the band in 89.
Yup. If this was 1990 they would have been touring for Louder Than Love from Dec 1989 until mid-March 1990 and then Andrew died the day they got back from it. What I don't get is they are talking about Lynch Mob, and that didn't release until October of 1990, even though the band formed in 1989, so what's that all about?
Im so dumb that's the thumbnail. But it does say its 89 haha. But i figured it out. Its late fall of 89. Cowboys went 1-15 and started the season winless for a few months.
@@spicyspecial333 You also need to remember these were all friends. By this time in rock history the DIY method was in full effect. They all played in one another's bands. They all initially turned down larger record deals.
This is priceless. Before the obnoxiousness of ubiquitous cellphones and selfies, when sweet, behind the scenes stuff was a rarity.
The end.
@@lauramalizia9636 and wtf was that?
@@Max_Vicious omg
The old Mercer Arena, the Cult's Sonic Temple tour. Stone being a wiseass - he was always like that back then. Wild to think of what was to come.
Stone’s face when Chris suggests making a baby 😂😂
It makes me curious though, I'd like to see what their baby would look like. Probably the most angelic living creature.
He freaked out too 😂
I don’t think Stone understood Chris’s sense of humor, yet they were both born on July 20 in Seattle, Chris was born in the year of the Dragon and Stone was born in the year of the Horse
Great to see everyone alive!
The music makers of the sound track of life for the last truly free generation -- forever grateful
Music ain't what it was. So happy I got to experience the 80s and 90s as an adult. Good times! MLB & SG my 2 fave bands of all time. AIC make 3.
Thanks for sharing this awesome footage, they are so laid back, maybe a lil marching powder...🤤
This footage is utterly priceless! Thank you for sharing!
Man, this is exactly the vibe and energy - one that seems so lost today - of people in the moment listening and communicating with each other. It's amazing how this is exactly the vibe Cameron Crowe was going for and ultimately DID succeed in capturing in Singles. Except this is actually the real deal. It's so authentic.
What a treasure!
This is awesome! Funny, they were so young back then, acting like total 20-somethings.. I'm a '90s baby, and I'm almost in my 30s now.. its funny to watch it, and think, "cool kids"
Seattle grunge. Royalty.
Very cool. Miss that Seattle. Warts and all.
Now it's so expensive that there'll never be another working class arts movement again. It's a bummer.
@@y_0886You’re saying you don’t think Ian Astbury is on Andrew Wood’s level? Surely, you jest.
I'm new but becoming a huge mother love bone fan! Love singing with Andy. On the internet U can do anything, learn anything, visit anywhere, & met & hang with anyone 😉. I love living in 2022. U will reconnect with all of their spirit
Pure gold, but also absolutely heartbreaking at the same time.
@@Friggle_Dee @ 6:11 Jason Everman "of Soundgarden" is introduced, so it has to be around July of '90 or so...
@@spicyspecial333
Wrong. Andrew Wood died in March '90.
@@spicyspecial333
You also need to remember these were all friends. By this time in rock history the DIY method was in full effect. They all played in one another's bands. They all initially turned down larger record deals.
And XANA reading a rock magz ‘The Cult’ ~ legendary! Man, those were the days! GRUNGE ROCK & GODS NEVER DIES
Well before the madness.. so much talent all together.
Thank you for this he will forever be my favorite!!!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
This is priceless. Before the obnoxiousness of ubiquitous cellphones and selfies, when sweet, behind the scenes stuff was a rarity. When people actually SPOKE to and interfaced with each other,, rather than looking down into their hands 24/7. How I miss (and long for) those days! And dang, didn't Chris have some HAIR??? 😳💔🎤
I foresee a very bright future for these guys.
Back when grunge scenes were epic, real, no cell phones, no blogs, Twitter ~ etc...... Back when shit was fuckin’ GREAT!!!!
MEMORABLE!!!!!!
We did have cell phones, thry were just as big as a medium size purse and carried in a purse kinda lol. 900$ a min, I jad 2 and my 1st phone bill was 1200$ my parents flipped out
Thanks for re uploading this video!
love these guys, this era :-)
Ooow Lost Boys 😈
Ahhh the old Mercer Arena, good times had by all!
I miss this time in the world.
I wish it was still like this, when ever I play a gig for a "festival" meaning we have more than one band playing on top of us there isn't this much people and it's not much of a social thing either.
I real miss 90"s is my generation this guys start this huge moviment and the movement explode to world até speed of sound....was amazing, who see in 2019, and are from 1990 , with 16,17..
This footage is golden!
AWESOME! I hope I'll go to Seattle some day. Love MLB respect CC and Soundgarden
I live here. It's beautiful!
❤ I love Andy Wood!!! RIP we miss you 😢
I had VIP meet and greet to meet him at Rocklahoma. A week before, well you know what happened:( same happened with Scott Weiland. Have not been back to Rocklahoma since
Stone looks super young and Andy had the most perfect lips 🤟big respect. Susan Silver original girl power❤❤❤❤
Love it, really brings the feels
Love this!!!💞💯😘 RIP..
this is gold :)
Wish Chris and Susan could have worked things out... Who knows... I'd like to think he would still be around... R.I.P Chris...

Thanks for uploading this! Had saved this video to a playlist from another channel and it disappeared (maybe it was this channel??)
I’ve always wondered who originally shot and posted this footage. Anyone know??
Either way, I’m so glad it exists and that we can watch and remember what that time was like. 💗
Omg!!!!!! Andrew wood sounds like Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon
Id say backwards
I've always thought so.
Amazing!!
This must be 1989 because of the 'Dave Holland leaving Judas Priest' references.
I do believe you are correct kind sir!

I love that they are listening to Captain Beefheart near the end
i love how stone is only interested in talking abt judas priest
Stone looks like he's been on the blow 😁
Thank you! A nagy nap!
Wow...Andrew and Chris together
"Jason of Soundgarden" sounds so weird lol
I seen Judest Priest at the New Haven Collisium. well actually heard Judist Priest outside because i couldn't get in. but i heard the whole thing. Thats how loud they were.
Everyone on the verge of greatness!
Stone Gossard is hilarious. I just got taken back to 1990. He's a dude I could have palled around with easily.
Intellectual conversation at its finest.
I bet that girl was totally late for culinary school the next day.
33 yrs since Andy died. I wasn't even 9 yet. Wish they made more albums but that would be impossible.

It's weird seeing all these guys young again. I feel so old.
Damn the cowboys were disappointing ppl back then too 🤦♂️
They wouldn’t be disappointed long. 3 Super Bowls, team of the 90s moniker started shortly after this video.
That's actually just inside the old Seattle Mercer Arena after a Cult show. Just milling about. Gossard being his usual sarcastic self and mocking all things metal. I know. I was there....
Breaks my heart
9:27 '' I gotta go to school in about seven hours'' random girls saying that, during this drugs session... hahah I wonder if she went to school that day.

Cool to see how things looked when I was 18.
This video would be complete with a young Shannon Hoon in the mix !!! RIP
Why can't I have ever evacuated with Chris Cornell
And Ian Astbury towards the end...
Wish I could hear what he was saying
Back when dudes were just so FUCKING COOL!!
This, and the video of MLB rowing around puget sound in a couple of rental boats have been circularing around UA-cam for years. Does anyone know who was behind the camera?
The Seattle's glam/hair metal scene, ladies and gentlemen
Who is the guy Dave?? Who s Stone calls him the guru of Seattle Rock? Everyone?
Can't help but wonder if Chris felt guilty/haunted that he couldn't do more to save Wood.
Regardless, hope they're both resting easy now.
You can tell he loved Andy
No doubt in my mind he did.
For the rest of his life...
Not a single doubt. Andy's death haunted him until his own. The hospital kept Andy on life support until his family and all friends, including Chris, got there. I sometimes wish Chris hadn't seen Andy looking like that.
Ya...i have tried to pick up every noc shift @ a gas ⛽️ station i could fine in hopes that would lead me to joining a band n getting signed to a record label. But alas...no such luck!😢
Wonder if Stone ever watches this video and says to himself, “Man, what a freaking dork I was back then”. A very lovable dork though
What year was this filmed? Anyone know?
1989 I believe
