  • The last of the three part series. We spike in about four miles to get into where the bigger bulls hang out, turns out to be a good move.......

I HIGHLY recommend walking sticks for treks into the hills (I use old ski poles) The stability it gives you and the wear and tear it saves on your knees and back, is considerable. I'd feel naked going on a hike/hunt without them.

We were in the Walden area, they should be big this year, that area had a mild winter and a ton or rain this spring.....cant wait!

That is the real hunting right there. Not private land hunting with bulls everywhere.
Nice work I live for elk hunting as well. A tripod would really help the camera footage.
There is nothing like being in the woods hearing elk bugle!!

So what'd the noob do to screw up your stalk? Agree with the comment regarding trekking poles but not for hunting, just packing out quarters.

He came running into the bugle from down wind right into the bulls cows, of course they busted outta the country and the bull went right along with them.

That sounds like a elk bugling on Jeremiah Johnson

You just can't run into a herd of Elk and just bugle and make a bunch of cow calls and expect them to run right in??? The Bull is looking at you thinking... what the hell is going on over there... when he looks, there is no Elk... you'll just scare them away. Learn what different bugles mean and cow call... and when to use them.

    Doh! That'll do it. LOL
I wouldn't hunt with him again either.
Common sense is not common enough.
