A sloppy-looking Jamus Lim could look sharper, and more Opposition-representative of his sharp wit and mind.
Anyone serving in Singapore's public politics needs to look sharp, on point and presentable at all times.
In similar vein, as a Singaporean born and bred here all my life, and deeply proud to be one,
I think most of us people on the street don't need or want "well-dressed politician pen-pushers" holding
the upper rungs of political office for the sake of things, and if they aren't passionate and genuine
about serving Singapore into the future to the best of their abilities. No one is interested in pompousness,
the social elite, arguing cases for the sake of arguing - our nation has come a long way and we cannot
be led into the "First World" chasm as an empty shell of people stuck in perpetual rat races, just to
keep up with appearances while suffering "on the quiet" from having to "keep up with" First World living
pressures. We don't need elitism from public political office anywhere governing our people; we need a
well-honed team of genuine, sincere, down-to-earth, and sharp-witted, SENSIBLE, incorrupt government
who are constantly in touch with what's really going on on the ground with our people.
Our government is great in economics and are the main drivers of our country's fiscal wealth - we're grateful
for our country's progress but for whom exactly? For ideals? For their own trumpet-blowing track-records?
For wooing foreign talent and wealth? Or really for the people? Are we feeling free or caged, stifled and
constricted? How should our standards of living be maintained but softened so people feel eased, and not
pressured to keep performing and pushing the development envelope? How will our children be raised in
a first world society? So that they might be driven to the edge in the rat race? I hope our government and
their agencies take a long, concerted hard look at what's really going on, and that PM Lawrence Wong and
his team stay true to the Singaporean cause with heart, an active listening ear, and the ability to "have the iron
in them" to switch courses / tangents gradually, to do what is best for us as a nation, regardless.
Do not take short cuts, drift in political office or cover up misses; the team need to be accountable to
the populace with your minds and hearts intelligently laid bare to help them live easier and better lives,
so people know they can continue to trust the government to lead. Quit doing things for the sake of it. Cut
excesses. Replace people who do not perform and own up to blunders and mistakes carefully; continue
to clarify policies clearly and honestly with our people, as MM Lee Kuan Yew always did. Sometimes
he was unsure and he would admit it, but he gained incredible credibility for being human despite
the pressures of public scrutiny. I am grateful to all our previous PMs, GCT
and LHL for all they have done for our country.
We don't need wealthy foreigners coming in to drive prices up with their wealth on property market demand
and then have a slew of measures taken to calm and manage the 'frenzy' down thereafter, or for them
to import their clans of contacts over to Singapore to take over mid to senior level management
positions while glossing over the expense of our hardworking local talent / people - this is a very fine but
sensitive line any forward-thinking government in Singapore needs to be really wary of and careful about
pertaining to foreign talent and "wealth imports". Sincerity is GOLD. So is LOYALTY. A heightened sense of
belonging and the willingness to lay our lives on the line when push ever came to shove and attrition. We are
generally law-abiding, peace-loving citizens but our people's silence does not constitute us to be taken
for a ride as fools : today's populace is astoundingly different from the one our founding father, His Excellency
MM Lee Kuan Yew helmed from the mid 60s. He and his team are to be credited for our educated populace today.
Today we are cosmopolitan as most first world countries are, but assimilation into our culture and gradually
with our people by these "foreign talent intakes" is even more important; I fear they would rather stick to their
clans / cliques with their "I'm still a foreigner and not really Singaporean; here to live, work and just "see how"
while I enjoy Singapore's perks" attitude.
In gist we need to be careful with the fact that the bringing in of foreign talent and wealth has other
contentious, often insidious and hidden repercussions on our society as a whole : the greater the divides
from these talent imports, the more fragmented we become in our society - especially if these foreigners
helm businesses at all levels : because each is driven not by sense of country since they were not born or
bred here, and every faction is for themselves.
I sometimes wonder how our children will live and thrive when the cost of living is gradually skyrocketing.
Please listen carefully, apply, and lower the cost of living here for all. Singapore should never become
elitist; we need to continue to adapt to an ever-changing world but I think in hindsight we need to ease
the pace of progress a little, to take stock, not do things for the sake of things, and to live a little easier
so our next generations flourish. Pressure to push boundaries and development is healthy but only to an
extent. We need to toughen our children's minds and bodies, not through rote -learning but their cultivated
insatiable quests to learn out of their innate curiosity, helmed by creative, admin-free teachers. How do we
promote lateral thinking and its application to creativity to spur their imaginations? Rote-learning is quite passe
in the 21st century except for professional disciplines like law, medicine, engineering, IT, specialised careers.
But we need to teach them fiscal (management) principles in school, other character building aspects
    like masculinity and femininity, social graces, their manners, their ability to dress correctly in well-matched outfits;
cultivate their sense of self and worth / confidence in our school curriculum. Teach them how to think, and to
prepare for life ahead, not just to get jobs later to enter the rat race. It can be done if only we'd make those
adjustment changes in our schools because we prioritise overall development. Not just inconsequential
rote learning pathways inherited from the past decades. Times have changed; so must the sway in which
we prepare for our children's future through how we educate and lead them.
    Will anyone heed?
Congratulations to PM Lawrence Wong meanwhile : he is the right man for the job and we are steadfastly
    behind him and his team.
