6:01 excellent advice on how to grab these types of cables so as not to break them. They are very common inside of HAM radios. Invaluable information on every video Mike.
Hi Mike, Glad to see you back making videos. It has been several months since the last. Excellent tip with the resistor size. Great warning about how to grab those TMP connectors. 73 WB3BJU
I successfully did the R2231 resistor mod (in-situ) last year. But its really great to see how to approach taking the whole board up and navigate around. Really handy should I need to go back in :) Many thanks. 73
Hello Mike I know it is the holiday season and all but I sent you an email in regards to repairing one of my Yaesu ft-101’s. Nice to see you’re videos after that long break
Cute radio ; lots of good advice, thanks Mike ; If i lived next to you and not in Europe, you'd be my repair guy :) Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Just subscribed by the way !
Love watching your videos Mike hope to see more soon I can never get enough I like the way you break it down so everyone can understand it even the novice radio enthusiast can understand great work keep it up KD8RR0 Kirby have a great day
I had to do just that...put a heat sink on a resistor, like the one in the video..the 8.2 ohm. I opened the fins on an old heat sink and pushed the resistor into the fins to get it to cool down some..they get really hot..
What about Technics Electrolytic capacitors to replace the old electrolytics, if you want a better radio then why get a FLEX 5000C add-ons can be added by compiling the required source code into the required module.dll in the dll directory.
Hi my Dad has a FT840 with the stuck S meter issue but also the display backlight is out, would the resistor you mention cause these issues if it was to fail and bring down one of the voltage regulators, Radio seems to work ok apart for that thanks
What's the Model number of the 'Radio Communication Test Set' that I have seen you use in many of your alignment videos. Very nice for testing SINAD Alignment, but I'm not really familiar looking at it who the Manufacturer and Model #.. Doesn't have a HP Tek or Agilent look, nor SAGE. Thanks for your great work and I have been able to learn more about CB tuning.
I don't think I panned the camera past a communications test set in this video. I own several from several manufacturers. I have 6 Rohde & Schwarz's, 2 IFR's, 4 Schlumberger Solartron's, a Marconi and HP.
Does the S0239 coax jack tighten from the inside or that nut on the outside? Mine is loose and can't budge the outside nut so maybe it's part of the jack itself? -- many thanks
Hi ! I'am having this rig and need to open the front panel for repairs. The MODE / VFO MR and such buttons are not working properly. Can you please share with me how to open the front panel of this YAESU FT 747 GX. Thanks.
I have a ft840 your video is very helpful. By the way just subscribed today. How can I get in touch with you about repairs. Keep up the good work.73s KN4CBS
If a transceiver was operated in a home environment that was air-conditioned and the radio was not used everyday, wouldn't the capacitors tend to last longer than twenty years, especially if quality capacitors were originally installed?
MIKE, I HAVE A QUESTION I WONDER IF YOU COULD HELP WITH. I HAVE A BAD J2026 SOCKET THAT THE REGULATORS PLUG INTO. CAN YOU TELL ME HOW I GET A REPLACEMENT SOCKET.
@@mikesradiorepair OK. I was concerned that there was a tolerance or some other un specified value that I wouldn't have other than voltage and capacity.
@@mikesradiorepair I am attempting to gather these parts to do this repair. I found NA8Y’s post and plan to order his recommended resistor. Part# PWR221T-30-8R20F. Sorry for what may be a basic question. I have replaced motherboard caps before, however it was with pre-made kits. Sourcing these on your own is a bit daunting. I am going to order a suitable resistor from Mouser and wanted to add those capacitors to the order. . However the C2034/C2035 near the resistor and the voltage regulators are a little difficult. Would you happen to know the lead spacing (or if it matters) for those 16v,10Micro Farad capacitors? Yaesu has a part number of K46120004 and a description of 16V100M4X7TR2. I was not able to pull up a spec sheet. Searching for those only pulls up other yaesu radio service manuals. I was planning to do all this in one session since I am not able to pull the board, de-solder the caps to measure their spacing, then re assemble to prevent losing parts. If you happened to know what you used or if it mattered, it would be beneficial.
Hi Mike, I had a ft-840 with some issues and I'm in Puerto Rico. Down here we don't have any shops that can help me get it work properly. Can you help me ? If yes how can a contract you. 73' form WP4NRC Anthony!
I don't understand any of this stuff but I enjoy watching Mike fix them.
Great tip on changing those resistors out This is the things folks need to know. Thanks for sharing that.

glad to see your BACK!
I like the incandescent bulb and replaced with the same type just a week ago. Keep the videos coming :)

nice looking radio and i agree with you.
I have also divided the resistance between two resistors to make them cooler.

i will never fix radios, but I have learned a lot about them. what about a 7300 ham . could you work on it?

Ebay find parts or parts radio or have the socket repaired
hello , how can i get in contact with you ?
Where do you source the chernobyl Resisor and the surrounding capacitors.? My board is burnt all around that known bad resistor.
Any electronics component supplier. Newark, Mouser, DigiKey and dozens if not hundreds of others.

Hi! where i find only "condom"? 🙂 i need this piece...
I don't know why I ever went icom.
I see HAMs constantly commenting, "get a real radio, not an export cb blah blah blah..." they sure look a lot alike inside.
