    Selling points of Combo Deluxe -
    #1 - The Tone
    #2 - The Look
    and most importantly #3 - G hitting those initial notes of his signature tune!

    it's an intersting concept but still sounds with high frequencies dominance (little metallic) if plugged online...
    what would be interesting is to plug a 65" deluxe in a tube power amp (mooer ?) to see if it turns "round, and warm", the same for the other pedals
    that would be not a revolution, but a practical solution for moderate budgets...
    state preamp + pedals (reverb 2 + delay) + tube power amp + cabinet ?
    the debate is open !

    The T.C. Combo Deluxe 65, their Deluxe Reverb clone pedal, does not have "Vibrato" (Tremolo), which takes it off my list right away. Also, no IR selection, just one.
    Yeah, it's much cheaper than the UA Dream 65 DR clone pedal, but you get so much more with the UA one that IMO it's worth the extra bucks. Also, the UA one sound better, more authentic to the amp, too.
    If UA had a put head phone output in, it would be untouchable, which is just about already is.
    The DC30 is authentic to the AC-30 to my ears, but lacks the normal/bright channels of a real AC-30. UA "Ruby" has all of that, plus an authentic Dallas Rangemaster treble booster as well.
    The choice of a single IR in the DC-30 is a curious, and I think a lazy one. They just used the same IR as in the Combo 65. That's a big mistake, I think.
    A proper AC-30 clone pedal ought to have at least the choice of the two, 12" Celestion CT3757, Alnico Blue "Bulldog" speakers that came in them to begin with. "Ruby" has that, plus a good IR of an AC-15, as well as some others. It is so much better than the DC-30, IMO.
    T.C.s' Jim's 45 sounds quite authentic to a Marshal JTM45 to me, and is the only one of the three I would consider getting.
    As for the relative prices of the T.C.s and the UA's, yes, the T.C.s are more affordable. However, once you have one of them on your board, you're not going to be thinking, "Well, it doesn't sound as good as what I might have in its place, but hey, I saved some money."
    No, you wouldn't be thinking that for one bloody second, would you.
    Cheers

    I'd love to try the 45 with fuzz. If it accepts fuzzes the way the real tube amp does, it could replace my current DI amp consisting of Bogner Blue and Two Notes CAB M+, and at 1/3 of the price.

      @@paniccleo not at all. The best sounding clean amp to date is the Roland JC120. Then we have the preamps and poweramps of the 1980-ties and 90-ties that have a quite a different approach in most cases. The Diezel and the Carvin heads and of course the moderns heads from Mezzabarba or Red Seven among other examples. The TC-50 or any other better sounding amp than a Vox or a JTM etc. There are sich a plethora but yet it always comes down to the same amps.

  • @TheBedroomRocker1

    Cool video, thanks! Nice pedals, nice sounds, much better via DI with cab sim in my opinion. But I honestly find the fact that you can't change the IR file in it a bit of a deal-breaker. The 412 Creamback is a nice safe choice, but I think most people would prefer traditional choices like a 112 Jensen-something for the Combo Deluxe and 212 Alnico for the DC30. It is nicely priced compared to Strymon Irridium and the sort, but the Irridium also has these 3 amp sims in a single pedal and much more options in cab sim and reverbs. So I feel the Ampworks are cheaper but not necessarily more cost-effective because they have less features. If you just need one amp and one IR, it's not a bad deal though...

    • @jose_simon
      @jose_simon Рік тому +3

      Actually, we put a 1x12 Creamback in the ComboDeluxe, a 2x12 Alnico Blue in the DC30 and a 4x12 G12M Creamback in the JIMS45. We went through the entire Celestion IR catalog and chose those, so they’d have different IRs which really match their own personalities.
      Regarding reverb, the ComboDeluxe offers a true convolution reverb of 4 seconds.

    • @topdazzle
      @topdazzle Рік тому +3

      Although it's adding to the cost by about £100 you can run any of these (without cab sim) through IR's of your choice such as the TC Impulse pedal. If you already have an IR loader then there's no additional cost.

    • @TheBedroomRocker1
      @TheBedroomRocker1 Рік тому

      @@jose_simon thanks for the comment. It's great to hear how the selection was done. However, would it be much more complicated to let the user change the IR in the pedal? It already has a USB connection and IR loader, so I feel it would be a simple matter of changing the IR wav file?

    • @TheBedroomRocker1
      @TheBedroomRocker1 Рік тому

      @@topdazzle yes, that is true. I just feel it's a bit of a waste, since the Ampworx themselves already have an IR loader, but are limited to a single IR file in this case

    • @jose_simon
      @jose_simon Рік тому +1

      @@TheBedroomRocker1 technically it’s doable, but since it’s not a feature in the current firmware, we’d have to roll out an update. It’ll depend on the reception by the users (how many consider this feature fundamental / deal breaker).

    I wish the Combo Deluxe had a really high headroom. If it did, I'd order one now.

    • @jose_simon
      @jose_simon Рік тому +11

      It actually has as much headroom as a real vintage blackface from 65, the thing is that when you turn the real amp to 3-4, it not only gets crunchy but also quite loud, so you play differently. When using the AmpWorx, it’s easy not to realize how cranked the amp model is because you can turn down the output level.

  • @lankududniteshift

    FYI...With regards to these Ampworx pedals, for an additional (approximately) USD40, u can get an "Amp In A Box" pedal just like these Ampworx (which has almost the same dimensions with these Ampworx) but this particular pedal gives u up to 12 different amp/cab IR (in which u can select 6 out of those 12 on the pedal itself), have 5 types of reverbs, a superb Noise Suppressor, a couple of Compressors/Boosts/Drives, a 7 band graphic EQ, an Effects Loop, a USB type C for loading yr own IRs or doing a more advance editing with its free app (U don't have to, cause right of the box, u can immediately create yr sound on the pedal itself, just like the Ampworx),a separate output (with switchable IR or bypassing the iR) on 1/4" to guitar amp's effects' Return (or any power amp) & another output with a DI XLR connector with the IR, meant to be sent to the mixer/recorder & much more...and all these, sounding great with very good feel under fingers (due to its very, very short latency). This pedal is called, NuX Amp Academy....... Just my 2 cents...
