    I like her. She could easily do this job with an impact wrench, but takes her time to teach how to do it with common tools.

    I just love how everything is clean and already loosened! And no turning the E-brake back to get the rotor off? I wish 1A Auto would show real world videos. And who opens the bleeder valve to compress the piston?? Just creates more work as you have to now bleed the brakes. I always use a big C clamp while the everything is still on the vehicle and crack the cover on master cylinder.

  • @Dadjokes4U
    @Dadjokes4U 5 років тому +40

    In 15 years of doing brakes on various cars I have owned and put many many miles on, I have never had to crack a bleeder to compress a piston and have never had any resulting ABS system damage. Can you be more specific about what may occur? Removing the cap on the reservoir has always sufficed to me. If what I've been doing is truly "wrong" I'd sure love to know why as I've never experienced a single problem. This sounds a little like a "fill the oil filter before you put it on" type situation that sounds like good practice but has scant evidence that proves it's necessary.

      I don't get it either, I've never done it before too but hey doesn't hurt putting some new fluid in it 🤣

    • @panzerabwerkanone
      @panzerabwerkanone 4 роки тому +5

      Sometimes an ABS unit has one way check valves which will not allow the fluid to be pushed back towards the reservoir. You can damage these.

      Never heard of doing that either. Did all four on my Yukon and never cracked the bleeder screw. Just making more work for yourself unless you plan on exchanging all of the brake fluid too.

    Excellent instruction with good video presentation. I ran into a bit of trouble trying to take off the rotor. After some effort I realized - because I was doing the work on my driveway - I had the parking brake on. Once released, the rotor came off without too much trouble. The WD40 at the back of the rotor where the hat breaks away from the hub was a big help also. As a suggestion, you may wish to add a torque wrench to your tool list at the beginning of the video. The commentary and explanation of the steps in the process was also most helpful. Not sure if I got the lady mechanic's name but great job and thanks .. you and 1A Auto were a huge help in my completing the task safely.

    Now that's a brake job done the right way. Very important to not push in the piston without opening the bleeder, so you don't push old dirty fluid back up into the ABS module, which can lead to problems. So she did it the right way. Many on these sites have no idea how to do brakes the right way.

    Good video, especially the tip showing cracking the bleeder loose, other videos skipped that part. But, why not use the old brake pad to compress the piston on the caliper? You can damage the piston this way…

    Just a thought for those that live in the rust belt... you do not need to put the torx screw back into the rotor, the lugs of the wheel will hold the rotor in place just fine. That torx bolt can be a pain if it rusts out, and they strip pretty easily...

      I've been changing brakes for decades and have never done that once. Sounds more like a liability thing, on the oft chance customer has an abs issue any time after a brake job, they can then say since they cracked the bleeder that it couldn't have been caused by doing the job.

    only critique i have about this video and also her job on the front pads, I'd never recommend pushing the piston in with a pair of those clamps, or any type of channel locks without an old pad to push evenly across the entire piston. You run the risk of that singular point damaging or breaking the piston cup. I use pliers all the time but also have a master brake tool kit. But as mentioned I use an old pad when using pliers. other than that great job

    It's a closed system...you don't have to bleed the caliper, there's nothing dirty in the system unless there was a brake in the line somewhere.

    I wanted a rear brake pads replacement video for a 2017 GMC Terrain, she is working on a 2012 Chevy Equinox (she stated this) and at the top of the video it says 2017 Chevy Equinox. Is this the right Video ???????? She stated that again when putting the tire back on 2012 ! Not a 2017 . I know Chevy is the same as a GMC. I also used a C-clamp and pushed the piston back in very slowly, both sides. I did remove the master cylinder cap with non problem, and I did not open the bleeder.

    Fairly decent but you need to talk more about the bleeders. If you open them too much you let air into it and the brakes become spongy and then you have to bleed them which is a huge pain the ass. Happened to me so not really impressed you didnt focus on that part a bit more and make it clear to be very careful.
