Here's my making of the Sandesgarn DOBLE TØFLER Felted slipper socks. This is a free pattern in Norwegian that I've knitted and felted.

Here's how I did mine (second largest size)
- Cast on 78 sts using 5.5mm needles and join in the round (using Judy's magic cast on)
- Knit for 29 rounds of st st
- Put half the stitches (39 sts) on hold
- Cast on additional 6 sts at centre of work, placing st marker either side of these sts and continue to work on these 45 sts
- Work 6 rounds st st
- K2 tog each side of newly cast on sts (at st markers), knitting together one old st and one new st
- K 5 rounds without shaping
- K2 tog each side of newly cast on sts (at st markers), again knitting together one old st and one new st
- K 24 rounds without shaping
- Decrease 1 st in following row
- Decrease for toe at four points as for a sock toe (K1, k2tog, k to last 3 sts on that side of food, K2tog, K1)
- K 1 round without shaping
- Repeat last 2 rounds until 24 sts remain
- K2tog 12 times (12 sts remain)
- K1, K2tog 4 times (8 sts remain)
- Pull yarn through remaining stitches
- Pick up sts on hold, and pick up 6 sts at base where new sts were previously cast on
- Work front foot as same for first
- Felt away
I just watched Knitting Posse podcast and Kate referred to this project vlog. I too have seen Inge’s episode, however, this was perfect and the inspiration to start a pair. I usually begin knitting in January for the following Christmas….so, in just a few weeks I’ll begin. Thank you so much!😊

Just FYI. Here in Scandinavia sock/slippers similar to these will often get a leather sole sewn on the outside to make them last longer. Just thought it was worth mentioning as something you could add as a finishing touch.

Thank you! I was about to start these and your video REALLY helped me get my head around the anatomy of these. I love the tips you gave, especially about how to reduce the top opening - starting the front section sooner. Another thought I had might be to put in, say, a short row on either side of the starting tube somewhere soon after the cast on. The idea would be to give that big tube a tiny bit of a "bowtie" shape. As a result you'd wind up with the effect of cupping in the heel and cinching in the ankle opening. Before I cast on I think I'll mull this over for a minute, but again, THANK YOU!
Omg this is genius, as there sometimes (depending on the felting process) is a bit of bulk around the heel. Let me know how you go with this hack, I’d be very curious for my inevitable future pairs 😊

Im now making a pair (or trying to) in Lettlopi and a DK. Its a gamble 😊. Will by Fritidsgarn (”leisure time yarn”) otherwise.

I would have plunged them from hot to icy water to shrink and felt them that bit more. You can always stretch the foot length out again but it would have solved the looseness around the heel.

Sooo cute Sarah! Thanks for posting - I would never consider even trying this but now doesn’t seem so scary after all! Maybe a stupid question but can you explain how you fit the one side into the other for each slipper? Also, can you wash a felted item or would it shrink even more? Thanks for the tips - keep up the great content! You & Paige are my fav knitting podcast & I’m always SO excited when you post another episode!
Haha thanks! I think if you hand washed them or put them on a wools/delicates cycle with nothing else in the machine theyd be safe and wouldn’t further felt. It’s the agitation and friction in a rough wash with other things that causes the fibres to felt (I’m pretty sure)
Ugh sorry I should have shown how to turn one toe inside the other on the video. If you push one heel point inwards towards the other it will create the space that then you can tunnel one toe into the other.

Thanks so much for this! Can’t wait to try. One question: You mention at the end that if you made these again, you’d split the feet a bit earlier on to make the front a bit longer. Do you have a sense for how many rows in you’d do that (for your size, since I’m planning on making the same size)? TYIA!
Pleasure :) Maybe I'd move 3 rows from the back part of the foot into the lengtht of the forefoot. Not much at all.
I love how thrilled you are with the end result! Congrats! My husband saw these on Instagram and now wants me to make a pair. I've never felted before so I very much appreciate watching your experience doing this. Do you put them in the dryer or shape them while damp and let them dry naturally? And, once they are finished, how do you wash them? Thank you!
I would let them dry naturally as I recon they’ll felt more in the dryer. And then I’d hand wash them when you do. I’m in the midst of making my 5th pair of these and they’re just so easy to make. Enjoy 🥰

Thank you that was very helpful. On how much degrees did you felted them? Mine turned out too small a few sizes....
It varied a bit because I put them through a few cycles, averaging between 20-40 degrees C. Do you recon if you soaked them you could stretch them out, like try and force them over your feel whilst they're still damp?

For the gapping I would put them in the dryer a bit and check frequently…
Thanks yeh I’m feeling emboldened after recently deliberately shrinking a cardigan a little bit in the dryer which worked a treat.

Thank you! I think a few of the cycles I did were cold, and the max I did was 40 degrees. I *think* the temperature doesn't matter as much as the friction component in the wash, so a few other things in the machine as well to rough up against.

can you please show how you make the shape to fit your feet after the drier tumbling process? they look lovely
Thanks lovely 🥰 honestly all I did was put them on when they were damp after an agitating wash. And then put socks over the top and walk around in them for a bit (see ~17.20 min mark). As they dry they should take on more of your foot shape. Hope that makes sense!
I"m looking to knit these up but the person I'm making them for has very small feet - EU size 22.5. I see that on the pattern most of the size are on the larger side. Any idea of how I can modify the pattern to fit a smaller shoe size or will it matter that much with the felting?
Omg that’s gonna be so lovely! I’d just do slightly fewer rows (maybe 2-4)in the first section before splitting for the forefoot, and slightly fewer rows (maybe 2-4 again) in both of the forefeet sections. At the end of the day just go for a prolonged felt to get them to shrink up lots.
I’m just wondering how much they shrink when felted? How much bigger do you need to make them?
Ooo yeh you need to make them a fair bit bigger. Hard to say but probably shrink ~25%
Hi! What did you do with the last strand when you're done with the slipper? When using Judy''s Cast On the whole slipper is closed off when it comes to the point of weaving in the last strand and I'm unsure how to weave in that last strand😅
Hey, I just threaded it to the inside and ran it along then pulled the needle out mid foot. It’ll get felted in so don’t worry about it too much.

Ugh I thought before I felted them that I should trace the shape so I would be able to use it as a template for future use with alternative yarns. But of course I forgot. I’m working on another pair at the moment so will do it with those ones, stay tuned.

I am trying this pattern. I am utterly confused at the “Dec as follows” section. What steps do I repeat for the first step?
Ok I think it just means “decrease rows start here”. In the comments I wrote out how I did mine step by step so hopefully between that and the sandesgarn instructions it makes sense 😬
It’s still not clear. Here is the text from the pattern “Dec as follows:
Work k1, *k2tog, work (1) 2 (2) 2 (3) 3 (4) 4 (6)
sts, k2tog, cont to end of rnd*.”
Do I knit to the end of the round after k2tog?

After you've divided for the forefoot and you've got your stitches for one layer of the forefoot on your needles, you work (3) 3 (4) 5 (5) 6 (6) 6 (7) rounds of stocking stitch. It then wants you to decrease a total of 2 stitches in the next round, and it achieves this by working two k2tog in one round. The instruction "Work k1, *k2tog, work (1) 2 (2) 2 (3) 3 (4) 4 (6) sts, k2tog, cont to end of rnd*." is getting you to place those 2 k2tog either side of the central cast on/picked up stitches (so the work will naturally taper in a bit over the top of the foot).
I think I realised this cos in Inge's verbal translation she mentions that your K2togs should be made up of one stitch from the main body of the forefoot together with one stitch from the picked up stitches in the middle.
You then work (3) 3 (4) 4 (4) 4 (5) 5 (6) rounds of stocking stitch without shaping, then do that same decrease row with two k2togs either side of the central stitches. So in the two decrease rounds you will have decreased a total of 2 stitches per round for a total of 4 less stitches. Then you can work straight for the rest of the length of the foot.
This is so hard to try and explain with text, so hopefully that makes some sense sorry...

That is the only part I am confused about. What does she mean by "cont to end of rnd"? What do I continue?
Knitting tradition translates the pattern from Norwegian booklets….not ok
I found her translation was quite helpful, hopefully between that and this video it can help more people make these gems :)
It’s a free pattern available to anyone online but only in Norwegian. What Inga did was 100% okay.
