- The most well-known of all Household Fairy is probably Dobby from the world of Harry Potter: a loyal, helpful household Brownie or Elf. But are all Household Fairy like Dobby? In this video, I answer all your questions about Fairy Brownies. What are they? Where are they? What do they look like? What are the rules of having a Fairy Brownie and what how will they punish you for breaking those rules? Household Fairy dwell in many countries. They vary wildly in personality and appearance but fair to say they’re all pretty complicated Fairies.

THIS must be the kind of fairy who keeps doing nice favors for me, like cleaning what I can't reach or fetching what I drop--a brownie! I am so grateful! It's a comfort in old age.
My Scottish grandmother taught me about the Brownies when I lived at her house as a child for 6 months. She would leave out a sugar cube, fresh water in a tea cup and a shot of whiskey for them daily. If anything ever went missing or was broken in the house, especially the kitchen, she would scold everyone in the house. She would tell us that someone displeased the “Good Helpers” and they were on a rampage. To appease the Brownie she would set out a shortbread cookie and apologize out loud for her bad family. She would always loudly praise how lovely the house looked the following morning. Also, when teaching me about them she would seem very nervous. She didn’t want them to hear her talking about them. So she would whisper the word Brownie in my ear. When I asked once where they lived she just nodded her head towards the fireplace. She said the fireplace was kept clean as a whistle and never lit (they had central heating). She would always decorate the fireplace mantle very prettily year round. When complimented she told me not to give her praise because it was for “Them”.
Ah, Kitty! If I were lucky enough to meet any from the faery realm, I think I have learned enough to ask THEM what is wanted or appropriate. Making assumptions when dealing with ANYBODY is problematic! Communication is key! Thanks for reminding us! ❤

Pretty sure I have an Irish "Bean-Tighe" (pronounced ben-tee) brownie type of Faerie boarder. I see him (or her) from time to time running around corners, scarrying about with the cats under near perfect Faerie glamour invisibility or moving about at the side of my eye in my peripheral vision. I am a super clean OCD type of guy so it has not much to do when I turn in for the night however he seems to take great care of my six house cats. They are always very well groomed and clean. I get compliments on it actually from house guests on there immaculate appearance. I just smile and say thanks. It is quite bizarre looking in a utterly facinatiing way. Not disturbing nor unsettling really. Just very odd. Sometimes there is a fleeting foul body odor but it is very brief. I think it is an on again and off again smoker of the pipe because sometimes I get the smell of exotic tobacco or herbs around the house. I dont smoke anymore. Not much of a talker of course but he is a friend I suppose. That's my story. Yet another outstanding episode Madame Kitty. Blessings, pleasant journey's and be well. 🍀😇🍄✝️
I love this! "Hobberdy Dick" by Katherine Mary Briggs is a classic, I wish there were more like it.
I think probably the reason brownies do house work, and chores could be because they have some kind of affinity or obsession with order and structure after all there are evil creatures obsessed with destruction and chaos, so GOD could make little creatures who follow structure, order neatness and harmony.
I have known that fae folk are not only individual but also some groups are friendly towards some of us and others are not friendly at all. It is very much a case of how the human is with them and how they think upon us regardless of our character.

It's no accident that Marvel chose the names of the most fearful fae browny imps like The Green Goblin or The Hobgoblin as the most fearsome Spider-Man villains.
So many human families worldwide are actually dysfunctional in some way sadly though very few are harmonious and even those that are inevitably go through rough patches as well making pleasing such a being all but impossible.
I guess that people that have OCD are FUBAR if they have one of these entities then.
