Good lord..... back when nascar was nothing like anything else on TV to the point that you loved watching it. You felt right at home watching a race and you felt like those drivers you didn't even know, were your friends and family
During one break, they talk about how boring the race is, and said "Could be worse, could be ABC doing it, we'd get to listen to Bobby Unser and Sam Posey argue".
@@andersoz80 LMFAO! I respect Bobby Unser, but I am SO glad ABC switched to Bob & Benny starting in 1994. Unser and Posey had NO business doing NASCAR races. Paul Page was serviceable though. Bobby Unser's voice really got under my skin.
The Blizzard of the Century became the root cause of the eventually rescheduled NASCAR Race, the 1993 Motorcraft Quality Parts 500, which was won by erstwhile Wood Brothers Racing driver Morgan Shepherd, who was in his 26th racing season, and was held at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, the venue of NASCAR's Greatest Race of the Century, the 1992 Hooters 500. The 4th race of the 13th Year of NASCAR Racing on Philippine Television was produced by SilverStar Communications, Inc., and aired live, nationwide, and via-satellite on the GMA Rainbow Satellite Television Network on March 21, 1993 with a Radio Simulcast on DZBB 594 Radyo Bisig Bayan and Campus Radio 97.1 WLS FM
If I remember right 3 out of his 4 wins were at Atlanta, like Kyle in early 90s at Rockingham, Morgan was always a threat at Atlanta. Kyle P was/is still my favorite driver, that Mello Yello Pontiac was sharp looking
Most competitive field in NASCAR history right here, 16 cars I remember believing had a solid chance to win very soon with another5-6 I wasn’t sure of yet whose time would come and another 5 who had a victory and had proven themselves. And Dick Trickle

Buddy also said the same thing at the previous TNN broadcast from Rockingham. Its not often they get those type of predictions right, but he was right on the money there. Gordon went on to be one of the best in the sports history.
He blew everybody away at Buck Baker's driving school in 1990. Buck Baker could not believe how good he was. If you haven't already, check out some of Jeff's sprint car races from 1989-90. Truly one of the best race car drivers ever in any discipline.
@@scottwolf497 Jeff Gordon raced sprint cars here in Australia in the late 80s when he was still underage and I did see him race a couple of times. For a teenager (he was 17 when I saw him), he was bloody good. Its no surprise to me that he went on to have the career that he did.

redracer1985 Actually The Bristol and Martinsville spring races in 2018 was snowed out. Well Bristol wasn't really snow it was more like freezing rain but snow was slated in the area.
Originally, yes. But after the postponement, ABC decided whatever else they had planned to air on the following Sunday was more important, so they passed it along to TNN
ABC's auto racing team (Paul Page, Bobby Unser, Jack Arute, & Gary Gerould) were being sent to Australia for the Surfers Paradise Grand Prix. They couldn't have covered this race on the same weekend.
As a life-long Gordon fan, had no idea he was this good right out of the gate. He's running better here in his fifth career start than he was most of his final handful of seasons (save 2014).
Gordon won his Gatorade 125 his rookie season. People say he made life difficult for future rookies. Owners started expecting their drivers to be good right out of the gate. People tend to think because he didn't win til the next year that he wasn't good right away. He did tear up a lot of equipment as a rookie though.
This was back when NASCAR was at the height of its popularity. In all likelihood, the empty seats are due to folks who had bought tickets for the original date and couldn't make it back to Atlanta the following week.
The race was sold out for its original date! When people can not reschedule, they can’t show up! It happened with races that got rained out on their original date as well! When you have races getting postponed, mentioning empty seats for the make up date is POINTLESS!

By far my favorite generation of NASCAR. Just pure fast and just enough downforce to start the side draft theory.

I like Paul Page and Bobby Unser when they are covering IndyCar races, but they were not good covering NASACR races in the 90's

My Mama said they got 21" up in Dawsonville & Dahlonega. Biggest snow ever she said, and she was nearly 60 at the time!
