Do you need proper education to become a mix engineer? (mixing mondays ep 7).

In this mixing podcast I go through the differences between going to school for mixing vs running sessions and learning as I go. In my personal experience I learned a lot from running recording sessions and picking up techniques as they come. Some people benefit a lot from proper education but it is not needed to become a top mix engineer.

Damn so you went to full sail ? I’m currently a student, you need both skills in my opinion your personal creative ideas mixed with the industry standard

I went to a local school that had a music program. Would've definitely loved to go to full sail but don't live in that area. But I completely agree with you, having the ability to mix with both individual creative ideas and technical workflow helps out a lot with keeping a client happy.
