Great , I now know how to root roses ,I liked the way you went straight to the task and explained the procedure .Too many of these "How to ......." videos go round and round the houses before getting to the point of showing me what I want to know and I thank you for that.
This is, BY FAR, the best video I've seen on rose propagation. I've watched MANY videos on rose propagation, and have been gardening and propagating plants for 40+ years, so when I say that this is, by far, the best, I have a certain degree of credibility. Thank you for sharing your time and experience!!!!!! Tam
One recommendation I learned from working at a botanical garden for a summer was to not dip your cuttings into the rooting hormone bottle, but to pour the rooting hormone into a dish and dip from there. If you dunk cuttings into the bottle you can get virus or other diseases into the hormone and it can spread from cutting to cutting. If you pour it out onto a dish or something, the chance of this is reduced and you can at least still have a good bottle left if the cuttings were infected.
@@archiev.1633 it definitely helps I've used clonex as well but since I found honey to me it's better it's natural no chemicals. If you would like to make it slightly stronger you can mix aloe vera and coconut water. If you mix those three you would need to dilute with water for sure. Try it you'll see what I'm talking about.
This is a highly edifying video for which I am most profoundly grateful. I shall return to this video over and over again, in order to master the technique of growing a new rosebush from mother plant.
I learned more from this video about starting roses then any I have watched before, thank you also your mini green house is genius thank you again for your help❤️ 👵🏻
Having watched a channel on here about how to grow roses from rosehip, I decided to experiment. To my surprise, after almost three months, I notice two seeds have germinated so far. I am so excited as the seeds are from the most divine smelling yellow rose I have in my tiny backgarden. I'm a happy 👯 bunny😊
this is exciting !!! i cant wait ... i have many babies and thanx to your advice... i now have alot more !!!! trees and bushes roses herbs !!!! veggies too soooo cool thank you !!!!!
Omg, thank you!!! I wish you explained the ziplock tutorial version a bit more but I ended up finding another ziplock greenhouse tutorial. This video is perfect! Quick, easy and to the point.
I must try this. The house next door is vacant and there is an old scraggly rose bush growing for years without any care and I've wanted to dig it up and transplant it to my yard but this method will be lot easier. TY for the information.
ON bottom of what? the plastic bottle or bottom of the large container? Also, I was not clear whether he put holes in bottom of plastic bottle and waht kind of sol?do you know?
Thank you! Reminder if you live in east tx and it’s summertime, you won’t need green house effect to increase humidity(during summer we have high humidity) I love your greenhouse makeshift-awesome. I used your method, minus the bag and I used ground cinnamon as rooting agent. I’ll just have to make sure I don’t let it dry out.
I have had success with air layering my roses. Now I regret selling all the plants I got from doing that cause I wish they were in my yard. But this cutting propagation method is more versatile and I want to try it
when i was taking horticulture classes in plant propagation i was told you never stick your cuttings in the bottle of rooting hormone cause you can contaminate it. pour some off to use.
My mother could grow any Rose. She would start it in the spot she wanted the rose bush to be and she would put a canning jar over the little starter piece. I don't think she had any rooting powder because she's been gone 30 some years now but we always had beautiful roses.
Thank you!!! I’m going to Mix rose food in my soil to give it extra growth I’m excited to propagate my sons rose bush he is in heaven I want to give some of it to his grandma and dad
I agree! Genius idea. I just passed by a few of these on the street that someone was throwing away but because they didn't have lids, I didn't take them because I didn't think they'd be useful to me. Darn!

Very helpful thank you for taking the time to show us how to do this as I have a out 10 l s of rose clippings that I want to try and do this with ... Have a blessed day my friend 🙏❤️😇🙏
Great video! I planted 7 rose cuttings from my own rose bushes last Sept-Oct 2016. Now, it is February 2017 and all six are so promising, with little side buds growing. I just cut off all the leaves, scraped the bottom part and stuck them directly on the pots ( with soil of course). I just forgot to stuck in the name markings I made so now, I don't know which ones are growing. Guess I will just wait for them to bloom.
Too much moisture can definitely make the cuttings rot and die.I'm pretty sure that's why some people have failed with this method and many others. Humidity definitely is different wherever you live so people need to know this that way they can prevent rot and fungus! Also please include the best time of the year for the best results and mention that all cuttings may not survive as with any propagation!
When do you transplant them to the garden? What does the fungal look like? How do you apply the anti-fungal? Is it a powder or liquid? How do you do a single one in the ziplock bag?
chykcha holy crap, what kind of roses were they? And how big, Jesus over here in ireland Rose bushes cost about €10, or about €20 for David Austin ones
Jack Cleary These were bare root roses. Both hybrid teas, one called Voodoo and the other Sheila's Perfume. Both are supposed to be fragrant with big flowers. Maybe I just got taken... hmm 🤔
chykcha I just looked them up, for a bare root voodoo, it costs €18, and Sheila's perfume is also available as a bare root for €7.50 here, seems like you were overcharged a bit, or maybe a lot. although they are both beautiful varieties and I just ordered Sheila's perfume for my rose garden . so at that rate those roses should have cost about 27$
I'm from the US...we have a group of "landscape type" roses by brand name "Easy Elegance"...many colors, all are super hardy and grown on their own roots...they were developed up north in Minnesota. Hybrid tea type blooms on huge, completely disease resistant plants.
I bought a small flowerpot with roses. There were a lot of buds, but there are only a few left. I'm keeping it by the sun's window, so I don't want it to wither and die.
I didn't use rooting or cover my plant and my plant doing great I just grew passion fruit from cuting just cut and dig a hole shoved let nature do his work
Same! I've had luck with rose cutting in straight up water for a week and straight into soil right after... I live in hawaii tho. Anything can grow here lol
Thanks for the informative video, I am moving my building's wild roses from one garden to another and wish to start clippings so to have new growth in the garden, NOT large half dead root clumps.
this “straight to the point” kind of video needs more thumbs up. I’m so sicken tired watching how to with looong intro about the plants and stuff
Lolana Kahale yes! And also tired of the stupid music some people add
Sooo true :-)

True, we really appreciate short and useful videos like these. We're kinda sick of long videos.

@@nichmon3221 you becareful, I've heard about people that take a dip in a bottle 😀
Poppycock!
Definitely. You can run a risk of cross contamination otherwise.
Omg thank you, finally an affordable AND doable small, manageable greenhouse.
Word of advice you can use honey it's a rooting hormone and it's also antifungal and antibacterial. 😊👍
In direct Honey or diluted with water some?
@@archiev.1633 you can use it both ways directly dipped or diluted with water.
