The Ballon d’Or has overwhelmingly favoured attacking feats in its existence. Only a handful of defenders have ever claimed the award, and just a single goalkeeper. The position of fullback though has never been honoured. In 1965, Italian left back Giacinto Facchetti came the closest, finishing in second place.
