No overnight guests? Like not even one night? Sounds like an awful place to live.
Uh, understandable. Overnight guests have been known to wreck places.
She said ask her first, not no guest
@@SavicksterTheTrixter I was thinking about it more from like a dating perspective
she's treating him like he's a child and not a tenant
When you rent a space in someone's house, they can make that rule. It's different from renting an apartment. Even when renting an apartment a landlord can have that in the lease. I've only ever seen it for renting a room in a house though.
How TF did they assume he was trying to move someone in. I wouldn't want to rent from her any way
She said that the roommate told her that and that he felt uncomfortable. Now that's fishy. He said it was the roommate's guest. Also in the email..he mentioned that he had left the place empty. i'm thinking roommate pretend to be leaving as well. When the coast was cleared..he stayed and got a roommate. I'm even thinking..that was the over-night guest.
@@takeithajackson3058I think when he said that he left it empty he meant that he left none of his stuff behind, and his bedroom was empty.
3 days, at least a week, to see if someone is actually moving in.I think the roommate wanted the plaintiff out.
@takeithajackson3058 I too think something fishy went on with that situation.
She's a smart Woman
His guess could have easily become a squatter. She has obviously been burned before.
The landlord is wrong for evicting the plaintiff based off of someone else’s word ( no proof). Also, how you gone tell grown ups they can’t have overnight guests without asking the landlord’s permission 😒
He did not have to sign the lease 🤷🏽♀️
You are clueless. I hope you are young because no adult should be that clueless.
She jealous.
Very easy.
You can not have overnight guests,if it’s in the lease.
Just don’t sign it.
@@rongold7719 Thank you. You are so knowledgeable; your parents must be so proud 🤡🤓🤐
It's stupid to rent a place from a landlord with a rule that prohibits overnight guests without the landlord's permission.
He may have lost $350 but gained a lot back in dodging that bad land lord situation.
Right!! She seems nosey. 😂
Exactly, I agree!
@@shesuniqueinherownwaybenja7647long name much🤣
Exactly. She sounds nuts
Exactly!!
Just because they return the key, doesn’t mean they don’t have a spare.
That's why I always changed the locks when a roommate moved out.
Yes! I never understand the big deal about returning the key! Spares can be made for a couple of dollars.
You're right. However, smart landlords always have a spare lock that they use to replace the lock that the previous tenant had access to.
This is why it's required to change the locks in some states. Thank goodness.
Exactly
what about only giving three days notice to vacate, I thought it had to be 30days.
A 3-day Notice to Quit
He could have challenged the 3 day notice to quit.
It is. But to legally start the eviction ball rolling, you have to give them a 3 day notice to quit.
I manage apartments....the tenant has to give 30,60,90 days to vacate. The landlord or apartment manager is legally obliged to give a 3 day notice to quit/leave/move. But what ppl don't know is that, if you're being evicted you have the legal right to reside in that same place until a judge makes a judgement against you to move and the sheriff's office serves you. I believe it's a two year limit to stay... 🤔
So we just gloss over what the son texted him. Hmm seems like harassment to me. What a horrible landlord.
that didn’t matter. the case is about the lock /security. no one filed harassment
Not to mention she said NOTHING about him trying to find out his next steps when he had moved out b4call the crud hit the fan.
He'd have to sue the son for that, not her
He didn’t counter sue for harassment
I guess cause he wasn’t here. But that’s so weird and unprofessional
Yeah, he forgot to give the key but that doesn’t cost 350 the fuck
It is if you hire a locksmith. Travel fee, parts, labor. Next time, don't take the keys.
@@HiddenAgendas so that’s the landlords problem. Who gives a tenant 3 days to move ??? Tf no

What PROOF did she have besides NONE !
Unbelievable ! The lady seems nosey and I bet her grown son didn't have to ask her for permission to have overnight guests over when he was there. Smh🙄
I don’t agree with this verdict. She gave him 3 days notice to move out and just trusted the roommate with no proof. This is BS.
So the plaintiff didn’t get his deposit back , they had no evidence he was moving someone in, they didn’t give proper notice, really bad landlords, I hope the other guy stitches them up. Nasty , this wasn’t a balanced hearing.
He got all of his deposit back except the $350
@@deemcgriff4196The verdict was for the defendant, where did you hear he got his deposit back?
He got it. Except $350. He wanted it all back
@@paultin3302 They literally say it in the beginning of the case. He got $1,000 back and she kept $350....
@@paultin3302At approx. 5:35 JM says that his security deposit was returned minus $350 that the landlord kept for changing the locks. Plus they mention it in the intro when the litigants are entering the courtroom.
Ok JM… thats crazy. U didn’t even take into account the texts?!? I don’t agree!!!😮
Changing a lock is not 350
Abloy lock is $500. Changing a lock can be expensive.
Changing 🔐 is mandatory anyway dude could've made copies 😅
It sure is. I have paid this before.
I hate when older people pretend they have never been young and want to be upset when younger people are learning life
Wtf he didn’t even have the guest and the roommate basically lied to clearly get someone else there and he takes all the bs smfh come on judge
I agree about the guest-the landlord was weird and unfair. But as far as the case, all that was before the judge was the $350 for the lock. None of the rest came into play. I feel bad for the guy, but hopefully he’s in a better situation now!
Change Lock in NYC is only $50 the most and got put out in 3 day he should went to judge Mathis or Judy
@@juliecranford534 agreed but she has a property manager, which is her son which lives on the property $350 to go buy a lock and have him change his self. Absolutely not any other time. The judge is like you have a duty to mitigate your damages, getting a $350 locksmith, rather than having your property manager change the locks is absurd and it should not have been in his expense, that lady was moving weird I could understand if he was fighting her and trying not to move out but he obliged so he should’ve got his security deposit
He didn't abide by any of the rules within the lease. Retuen the key and gwt pwemission for guest. He signed the lease. His lost. Socks for him but this was a decision he made and now have deal with.

Uhm, keys can be copied 🤦🏼♀️ just giving them back doesn't mean they don't have another one.
Right! I would think the locks would need changing every time a tenant moves out for that reason.
Seems like the roommate lied so he could get the plaintiff out and then 350 to change a lock......50 bucks and it's done.
He dodged a bullet on this one. That grumpy old lady would’ve kicked him out for anything….and to deal with the son would’ve been an issue.
Kinda weird for them to monitor the overnight guest situation.
For them to be like this towards overnight guests would freak me out and have me paranoid thinking it's hidden cameras in there
Probably got a hidden camera in the bathroom CREEPY 😳
Very creepy
The landlady seems to have taken the room mates word as gospel. Maybe he just wanted one of his friends to move in and made the whole thing up.
I completely agree! Sounds like she didn’t verify that info at all. So weird!
They should change the lock anyhow. Anyone can make a copy of a key. It’s dangerous.
How the hell do you give a few days of notice....AM I MISSING SOMETHING. Did Judge forget that part?
The Landlord was just mad she wasnt getting her old oil change😂😂😂😂😂😂
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
I get her reasoning for the rule but it’s still inconvenient and I think the roommate set him up to get his friend in because where was the proof he had a guest
Where is the Roommate & Son aka Manager🧐
Hope he found a better place to stay
Bullcrap. It's a cost of doing business. Everytime a renter leaves the owner CHANGES THE LOCKS.
There is no way I’d live somewhere that dictates who I have in a place I pay rent. That’s my home. There should not be any way a landlord can tell you who you have in your home, how long they are in ky home or when they are in my home. That’s complete bs.
I'm not mad at her about the fear of 'Squatters Rights'. This country has stripped homeowners of their rights so they have to protect themselves and the property they worked hard for or inherited. The Law sure won't.
Sign of the times. When income inequality and housing costs werent so massively out of balance there wasnt such a squatter issue.
The defendant is shady
AGREED!
Landlords need to change the locks after each tenant with no replacement fees
Why is no overnight guests even in a lease for GROWN Adults?!?
The landlord is a scam artist. Wow.
cant beat low intel blk dna
The judge did horrible in this case. She just took the land lady's word for it. She didn't ask why the son or roommate wasn't in court, no affidavits from the son and roommate. The landlady proved nothing and still won because she played the sweet old role and the judge bought it. Why not always change the locks after each tenant? These cosplay landlords are something else.
I think the other roommate was the one actually trying to move someone in that’s why he made up that story and stayed then got a new roommate
This was the most confusing case..
So she didnt have to give him 30 days notice to vacate??
She assumed he was trying to move someone in?
The judge didnt ask for ANY proof of this alleged overnight guest.
This landlord is a paranoid control freak. She probably has cameras in the apartments.
I think the roomate plotted to get him out.
It's a house. Her son lived on one floor and his lived on the other. It's probably in the lease that they can be told to leave with a 3 day notice. Nothing illegal about that. There were some missing things in this case though I think.
The locks are supposed to be changed anyway.
The roommate coukd have easily let him in...OR
He could have got Copy of the KEY..
She should have changed the locks anyway. $350 is ridiculous
I'm confused because plenty of times, JM didn't award money for the change of locks. She would always say, " It's a good idea to change the locks, but that shouldn't cost the other person"
A 3-day notice and 5 days to move out and return the keys??? That’s not enough time to pack everything he’d just setup in his new apartment, arrange for someone to help him move, find a new place.
I’m really surprised that JMM focused on the keys as the only issue, but didn’t explore other aspects of the case. Like, did she even check the lease to see if that short timeline was written into it?
There was a lot of shadiness in this case. Either the landlady and son realized he’s gay and were discriminating against him. Or the roommate lied on him to get him out. Something. 🤔
Nah the son def told her about the guest and they blamed the roommate her son scum too just like her. Shady
Roommate lied
He didn’t seem like a bad person
I wouldn't rent anywhere if i can't have anyone over not even a single night per week
Id NEVER move in a place that asks me to tell them when i have overnight guest, im a rent paying tenant i can have guest if i wany within reason.
7:14 🙄🙄🙄 this judge I tell you…. Please tell me where she got “a angry person” like what
I'm glad he let her know, he wasn't angry!
Very unprofessional, landlords.
nah, fitting for blk dna
The Old Lady Is A Scammer..!!
She should have gotten her Scammer Son to change the locks..!
I keep a spare set of keys period,DUH who dont?
I have heard jm say in pre ious cases that the landlord would have to change the lock anyway but now is different 🤔
Smh I don't believe a word this woman says wish he would've sued for unlawful eviction so she would have to prove he had company and was going to move someone in JJ would've been all over this
Did anyone else notice how the defendant looked at the plantiff at one point during time he was talking to the judge? It was obvious she didn’t like him at all. If I were him I’d just be so glad to have gotten out of that situation. She had it in for him. She looks like she could be a real piece of work & nasty to go with it!
Giving back the key is a moot point since the tenant can make a copy of the key. Seems like a landlord needs to rekey a house or an apt. every time someone leaves. $350 bucks is VERY high! I wonder why the roommate didn't talk to him before he tattled on him to that ridiculous landlord and her abusive manager son?
Exactly!!
WHAT? If the landlord has to give one month's notice, he was still the legal tenant and therefore had every right to hold on to the key, and since when does it cost $350 to change a lock? And everything the defendant said was hear-say she had no proof of anything she said about the emails, her son, nor about the other person he apparently wanted to move in, so SHE was in breach of the contract and should have had to return all his deposit, as it is her fault he had to move out so quickly and was not given the time to return the key. And why do landlords make such a big fuss about a key any way, it's not like the tenant can't make a copy. I would change the locks for every new tenant anyway...
What was the judge thinking she had a bad attitude towards the plaintiff, bad call
He better be glad he got out with less headache than the 350 setting him back. That lady and her bully of a son are gonna be in for a rude awakening by the wrong tenant at the right time.
If her son is the one that did all this, then why the heck isn't he there? Sounds like a bunch of b.s. by the landlord.
That is a Caribbean landlord. They are mostly dictators. LOL!
Ik for sure she won't be breathing much longer, damm scammer

So the YT algorithm has no problem with people posting their negative views based on the color of a person’s skin BUT if someone reacts to such comments and use the correct terminology for such words, the algorithm DELETES the comment simply asking if the first commenter was pleased with posting their words…..
The world is upside down!!
The defendant sounds like the scammer. Plenty of times in other cases the Judge has ruled that a repair cost has been exorbitant. $350 for a lock change is ridiculous.
he shouldve sued for moving expenses... why did he move with 3 day notice !!
Exactly that's ridiculous
Judge Milan got this wrong smh
So the property mgr son living upstairs , the same that used disgusting verbage, was the complainant?
350?? I once moved 2 hours away and didn't realise I hadn't handed over the old keys. I got charged $50
The plaintiff said the roommate had a overnight guest, and then the landlord said the room mate got a tenant lol helllloooooooooo
Dude should’ve just given back the key. I mean he really shouldn’t have moved out at all. He didn’t have sufficient notice. But he chose to move out, and keeping the key cost him.
If I look at a lease and a landlord says I can't have somebody spend the night without getting in touch with management first. I'm not moving into that place whatsoever. I'm running!! Type of crap is that.
If you were renting out a room in your house, you might think differently. I've lived in places like that. If you want more freedom, you have to be able to afford to rent your own place.
@@tunisiancrochetchannel
Pay closer attention. He was NOT renting a room. He rented the first floor of a house. The house was either split into two units or had always been a duplex. She did not live on the premises at all.
@@synnove1046 Yes, he rented the second floor of a house just like I did. That doesn't mean it was an actual apartment. Either way if it's in the lease, the rule against having guests is perfectly legal. That kind of rule is more common when renting space in someone's house than when renting an apartment.
Landlords should always have to change locks in between tenants. You never know who has made copies of their keys.
Come on. I've seen her tell landlords that's rificulous
What a horrible family. Talk about scammers.
She worry about a key but that was illegal to put him out in 3 day and $350 are you serious I'm glad this show is off she needs to be off the bench she put him out you have to get out in 30 days what part in NYC they let you out in 3 day and not go to court
She sounds like a nutcase, and the son is a coward for not showing up to “support” her since he had so much to say over text. He dodged a bullet by not staying in her place.
He should of went to judge Judy 🤷🤦💁💁
The roommate said the plaintiff had an overnight guest. Maybe the roommate wanted to get rid of the plaintiff?
I live in Miami super pricey, but 300 seems I don’t know for changing the key. I know some locksmith that will come and change your locks for about $50-$75.
Was that 3 day notice legal??
In my state we use to have same day evictions, before covid
It's not illegal anywhere in the US to my knowledge provided it is in the lease. Without a lease it's whatever the law says is the default.

the woman walked in as if she was there to play bingo
If I’m paying rent i can have overnight guests
oh he gagged doug
The landlord giving permission for someone to stay the night won’t stop a guest from doing the same thing she is trying to prevent
He made it easy for the LL. She asked him to leave and he did, she didn't change the lock or throw his belongings out. Too bad he didn't return the keys.
No overnight guests is wild af. This woman is on a power trip.
I feel like the landlord/current tenant//son we’re in on a hustle to get him out. The way she bragged about the current tenant proved it. Also, her son managing her place is a liability for her the way he spoke to that dude, who actually LEFT when asked w/o being a jerk about it. Someone else in the comments said it best, he dodged a whole freight train not living there for long.
It’s crazy that JM would suggest that the key should just be left behind with the roommate or under a mat. I would not want to leave the key with anyone (other than in person with the landlord or manager) nor would I just leave it in the apartment or under any mat. Once you do that you have no control over where the key ends up. It could be picked up by anyone who happens to find it. What if someone used it to break in to the rental and they hurt someone, stole stuff or vandalized the place? Then they’d try to hold the plaintiff responsible, and how would he prove his innocence? If he left it with the roommate how does he know if the roommate will be responsible and return it? Maybe he’d lose it, or just keep it to cause trouble for the plaintiff (it sounds like they were not on great terms). Putting it through the mail slot isn’t smart either. It could be overlooked and kicked underneath the furniture accidentally. Again, plaintiff would have no proof in any of these situations. It would just be his word against theirs. Plus, as was mentioned in at least one other comment so far: how do you know that the tenant didn’t have a copy made? Whenever you’ve had a renter, or anyone who held onto a key for any length of time, the only smart thing to do is to change the locks.
I feel bad for the guy because I think the landlord treated him unfairly. Plus he seems a little unsophisticated, didn’t describe his situation in the clearest way. But the silver lining is that he is lucky that she’s no longer his landlord. She was difficult and it probably would’ve gotten worse.
