Thank you so much for this video! And I feel relieved when I read the comments knowing that I am not the only one bad at controlling the steering wheel.....
I never take corners under 30 miles per hour. Performance tyres, sway bars, a throttle controller and my focused mind are helpful. So far I have only ran over five people and only managed to kill one. Not too bad I reckon.
+Monster Cuber Just keep practicing! One tip is to look as far ahead as possible up the road. Since we naturally steer towards where we are looking, this will help keep the car straight.
I told my Driver Ed teacher that I knew how to steer this morning because today is my first drive, thanks to this video I do know how to steer so even though I'm still anxious I'm more prepared, thank you!
Driven that route more times than I care to remember, while travelling between Essex and Norfolk. My wife has just started taking lessons, and likes your presentations.
To avoid oversteering always keep the car aligned in front of your body for straight steering. After turning, you always want to return back to the middle.

To give more time to steer, keep the car speed fairly low - especially on tight turns. With a little help from your instructor, and enough practice it will get easier 👍🏼

My sister-in-law in England has told me many times where to keep my hands on the wheel and how to "push-pull" the steering wheel in a turn. I explained that in different countries different methods are employed. We (in the USA) are taught to keep your hands at 10 & 2 (based on a clock) and when turning move your hands - hand over hand. If you performed a "push-pull" method in the USA while taking a driving test you would be failed. I think the reasoning for this goes back many years. Steering wheels were much larger in diameter in the 1960's because a lot of the vehicles, back then, did not have power steering and "hand over hand" made it easier to turn the wheel. Now days it is faster to turn by keeping my left hand at 12 o'clock and leave my right hand free. A lot of driving schools are currently teaching this method in the USA. The cars in England are generally much smaller than in the USA and the wheel doesn't need to be turned as far so keeping your right hand at 12 O'clock would make a lot of sense. Not saying one method is better or worse, just different.
We normally suggest feeding the wheel for tight corners, but either technique is fine for the test as long as the car is in full control. Whatever works for you 👍🏼
Try driving extra slowly for tight turns, as it will give you more time to steer. As your car control improves you will be able to return to normal speed safely.

We have taught plenty of people that are shorter than you, and there hasn't been any problem with our cars - as long as the drivers seat height adjustment is fully raised. It can lift the seat up about 6 inches so the drivers head is in the same position as anyone else. Why not go to a car showroom and try sitting in a few suitable cars?
Crossing hands isn’t good steering technique, but in itself can’t be marked as a driving (minor) fault. But it would be a fault if it leads to the car leaving it’s correct road position. HTH 👍🏼

4:45 Wait, didn't you tell us that when you are taking a turn, you should change your gear? But I didn't see you changing your gear. Should we just use our brake pedal on turns? Or also when taking a turn, should we also press the clutch pedal?

Advance Driving School . . .keep practicing?. No disrespect but you could give a little more advice than that. How do I avoid turns that are shaky or the car moving to over to one side after straightening out from a right or left turn. What am I doing wrong?.(Edited).
If you received 50 questions per day how much time would you be able to give for each answer? Without being in the car with you we have no way of knowing what you are doing wrong. Your instructor is the person that should be giving you the help you need.
Advance Driving School . . . I wish you would do something here in the USA. A program to help people learn to drive. Well, my instructor says I my car moves over to one side cause I don’t let the wheel slip through my minds, I believe he tells me that cause I don’t bring the wheel back properly. doing it to slow. I know that releasing the wheel even if not fully the wheel isn’t acceptable on a road test neither here in America or UK.
I know I’m late on this but when I was learning I was taught to feed the wheel on top of steering wheel, is he using bottom of wheel in case the airbag goes off? Good vids though
The position we hold the wheel in can vary, depending on what feels comfortable. Taller people tend to hold the wheel a little lower in our experience, and shorter people a little higher. From this position just feed the wheel as and when needed - as long as the car is in full control then it won't matter on the driving test.
Thank you so much for your videos. I've been checking your channel and since the morning I watched six. This channel is so beneficial. I had my first lesson today and my instructor shouted at me three times cause I didn't know how to steer. I am so sad, I think I will never learn 😢

I know that releasing the wheel even if not fully the wheel isn’t acceptable on a road test neither here in America or UK.
Am very happy your video is very helpful
This is very helpful for a learning driver, thanks 🙏🏻
I know I’m late on this but when I was learning I was taught to feed the wheel on top of steering wheel, is he using bottom of wheel in case the airbag goes off? Good vids though
The position we hold the wheel in can vary, depending on what feels comfortable. Taller people tend to hold the wheel a little lower in our experience, and shorter people a little higher. From this position just feed the wheel as and when needed - as long as the car is in full control then it won't matter on the driving test.
Thank you...this video really help me
Thank you so much for your videos. I've been checking your channel and since the morning I watched six. This channel is so beneficial. I had my first lesson today and my instructor shouted at me three times cause I didn't know how to steer. I am so sad, I think I will never learn 😢
Thanks! I’m sorry to hear that you were shouted at, as that should never be necessary. Just remember that learning to drive gets easier after the first few lessons - good luck! 🚙👍🏼
Thanks I am new driver in UK
Very helpful👌
So the days of steering with your knees whilst rolling a ciggy are gone?
Any bend or junction without running over side walks. Check dash cams or people get dragged out from vehicles. Should also check for pedestrians on right turns.
hand in hand and hand over hand are hteat steering techniques. keep safe everyone✌️
How to do correct shoulder check and how and when to do it? How to do a good kerb stopping? How to make correct turns in a roundabout and junctions?

✨Really helpful as i have recently started driving 🚘
I’ve just started having lessons, why is driving so unnecessarily hard, surely in 2022 it should be easier with modern cars?
Well the cars are a lot easier than they used to be - but the roads are much busier so it all balances out. Good luck 🤞🏼
Right!!! I'm driving a brand new diesel 2 litre VW & petrol Seat in Lessons and both are so unnecessarily hard to turn, control and get moving lol.
Drove my mums 20+ year old petrol 4x4, refused to stall, I tapped the accelerator on a bumpy incline & it just went for 5 minutes no gas lool, clutch was shorter, brakes were nicer, steering was lighter. It seems car's have been made more confusing and unworkable.
I’m lucky that I learn most things quick but always find a good revision worthwhile just to reinforce it :) thanks for the video and the bonus footage
I like how you teach, thank you so much
You are not alone. I steer less than required
