  • Fluid art inspirational video! I don't know about you guys, but when I finish painting, the idea of varnish and resin can be a bit intimidating, especially in a large canvas. You don't want to ruin your beautiful work. I'm sharing with you the technique I used to varnish, large paintings, also a great talk about different types of varnish and pitfalls with different types of finish.

    Sara! I am so grateful for artists like you that share tips and tricks like this! Thank you for sharing that you mix the Liquitex with water and that you use socks instead of a brush! I had a 36x36 to varnish and was dreading it until I saw your video! It worked like a charm, so thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! ❤❤❤

    Excellent information Sara. I don't use Resin on my paintings, but so many people do and who would have guessed that it will yellow? I know some artists who sell a lot of their work and the resin every piece. Bummer! Well, I'm so glad you put this information out there and I got a lot of info. from all of the products you showed and your method of varnishing is definitely something I will do. Thank you so much.

      Yes, I wish it was more widely known that epoxy does yellow overtime. It’s OK to put it on a darker painting, but if there’s white, it will eventually show a bit of yellow, especially if it’s exposed to lots of UV.

    WOW! THIS IS SUCH IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KNOW! Here I've been thinking I've been missing out on not using resin on my paintings. I used to use the polycrylic too. But, I had some disasters with it, even though I applied it the same way every time. Thankfully Chris J turned me onto Liquitex. I varnish the same way you do, minus your adorable sock hands😁! The isolation coat is always a good idea like you said. I love this piece! Please show us a picture of it all varnished before you send it to its new home. I'm so excited for you! Your retreat is going to be wonderful! Thanks again for this very important video! This is the kind of info that we need to know to avoid the heartbreak your friend went through! 😊🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

    Thanks so much Sarah. I had some trouble with the liqitex applying it too thick. Ended up getting some spray. Must have a go with it watered down.😉 Very interesting about the isolation coat. I'm trying to get ready to start selling some paintings so thanks again!

    How, using your technique, do you achieve an even surface. I find even with careful brush strokes or using a lint free cloth there are still lines or unevenness on the dried varnish.

      I really do find that using the circular motion with water down varnish that you can avoid any marks. I’ve had success with it.

    Thanks for this! Two questions. Do you always water down the varnish? Do you get threads or lint from the socks?

    • @SaraTaylor
      @SaraTaylor  9 місяців тому +1

      Great questions, I do always water down my Liquitex varnish, unless I’m floating the high gloss on top of a painting. Just be sure that the socks don’t have any lint. Nylon is a great way to go.

    Sara: Thanks for making this video. I found it to be most helpful. I do have a question for you though. On the bottle of the Liquitex varnish, it states not to thin with water. I am so curious as to how you get good coverage with the High Gloss finish if it is so thin? I want to try your technique but am just a bit concerned that it may not cover, of skip stops of coverage. I live in Florida and wonder it the outcome will be different. Or perhaps if my husband sprays it, we have good luck. Your thoughts?

    • @SaraTaylor
      @SaraTaylor  9 місяців тому

      I’m not sure why they tell you not to come with water, it’s a water based product, so it does not change the integrity. This is how I had a little slow getting a smooth and even coverage. You can build up the layers one at a time after each layer dries. Spring Watters is also very good!

    30/10/23 Hi Sarah thank you for sharing your experience with varnish. Do you use an isolation coat with permanent liquitex varnish? They state that it can’t be removed or is that only if you don’t use an isolation coat first. I’m very confused as everyone says different things😬many thanks Anne

    • @SaraTaylor
      @SaraTaylor  8 місяців тому +1

      Great question, the permanent Liquitex varnish cannot be removed, without disturbing the acrylic paint unless you use the isolation coat.
