the Zao was there to prevent any "smart play" to attack the base and the surrounding area early on. I think it is WG way to prevent player exploiting the game pattern which has been happening in all operation available today.
Here's some top tips: Ignore the 3 Zaos, they're programmed to run away Shoot the South Aerodrome when it's *blocked* by the island. I say blocked, it means to lob shells over the rocks from where the Atago died. Just aim at the aerodrome like aiming at a Des Moines hiding behind cover. From my experience, every salvo can deal *17-40k damage* Similar tactic with North Aerodrome, but the ship placement is more difficult When a DD is close, activate Hydro ASAP Stick together during the air assault, and time the DFAA activation & cooldown period between each ship to have near-infinite DFAA
Actually people do fail it believe it or not lol. Once I looked up and found that I was the only one left alive. The biggest mistake is not getting to the Marines quick enough and going in the middle at the end. Is total torp soup
This operation was much harder in PTS. There were torps more than that. Torps everywhere and and Myokos focus fire marine base one at time and loosing at least one all the time. It's really easy now. I also completed it in first attempt.
First time 5 star for me also. I think this is the most easy operation i ever see :D. But maybe this hole operation just for testing the "night" battle.
As someone who works with explosives I can inform you that bomb means "explosives used for warfare purposes", so yes I agree 'illumination shells' would be more fitting here as this is not an explosive in the conventional sense as far as I'm aware. Although I could be wrong about that as I'm not to read up on how exactly flares work.
Flares are just chunks of combustible metal that are ignited as they are launched-- hand flares are obviously ignited by a handheld striker. Most flares are designed for signaling and just free fall slowly back to Earth due to air resistance and low weight, but illumination flares often have a small parachute to hold them in the air longer.
I love this operation, i played it 30 times in the last 3 days because its so easy to get at least 1400 base XP in one match! With all the economic signals and good camos you get lot of xp .
I think they may have nerfed this Op. from the PTR. Played 7 games; 5x5 stars, 1x4 stars and 1x3 stars wins. PTR struggled to get 3 stars from about 15 games
nice vid, thx for the effort. played this OP on the PTS and now on the life server, it seems to be lot more easier. I think therer were way more torpedo squads on the PTS, which made it a lot harder.
You were unlucky with the dawn at the beginning. I got only four stars in Cleveland, but got five in Chapaiev, far superior shooting trajectory. You get rid of those dd's faster, and at the range of aprox. ten km those enemy cruisers spawns, Chapy's AP works as fine. I just felt that in this mission Chapaiev is the superior ship counting the number of enemy DD's.
Speed flag is useful, because the main problem is to be in range when needed. In randoms it is much harder then with division because Average Steves don't coordinate consumables and always 2-3 cruisers are "staying safe" near the hospital... Usually 1 guy is picked by a torp in the 1st wave, very often 1 regiment is killed (even here it almost happened for your unicum division...). No need for special tricks like "lobbing shells over the mountain" - but still I don't really understand where to shoot at these aerodromes. Sometimes you get 40k from a salvo, sometimes 2k or nothing. Sometimes it shows that the target is blocked, without any reason. No rule. Usually 4-5 stars, but I once happened to be in a game when at Atago fight we only had 2 ships left alive already - and it was a loss.
Yes, It is when you know what is going on and you are working with 6 others that is very good at the game. But with random people it makes it much harder. Otherwise, at the end you can hide behind the island near the west airfield and be able to shoot both airfield. Once, I figured that out, I haven't lost the operation.
It's a fairly easy operation if everyone works together. When I played it in the test server, I had one 5 star win where everyone worked together, but all the others were really difficult as all my so called team mates just did their own thing and we kept losing. Get it right and work as a team, then it's easy. If the team does their own thing, then it is hard to win.
Do you have an opinion of the night battle mechanics? Are they something you would like to see in random battles? They certainly seem more nuanced than the current cyclone.
It doesn't matter where you shoot the aerodromes, but actually shooting them seems to be a little buggy - a lot of shots look like they overshoot by a few kilometres.
It's basically a more restricted T8 Narai. Easy to farm with decent teammates. Let's just say I expect them to seriously nerf it. Otherwise they have no excuse to withhold and unchanged Narai any more.
Played it with the Baltimore having watched a Jingles video on it. The game crashed for the 1st 2 minutes so had to play catchup but finished with 5 stars on the first attempt and in 3rd place. Very easy.
It's not that hard especially if you know what you're doing. I'll say I played the last phase more middle / north and there were TONS of torpedoes. Saving some hydro for that stage is key. Also don't finish off the airfields before the team gets 40 aircraft kills. I found I didn't need radar that much, even at night, so premium hydro and regular radar is reasonable.
This operation is the most easy one IMO, even with random teammates will easily get at least 4 stars, most of time 5 stars. BTW, the night battle is pretty great, maybe WG is using this operation to test it.
Wargaming, really? 'Illumination bombs'...? You'd think that as Wargaming appears to pride itself on historical knowledge, they would know that those are called 'starshell'.
Yeah, ez you say, try to 5 star this one with randoms buddy(except you, I don't trust anyone from comments who claim this one in first attempt)...and fine gameplay like always
I went in with randoms in my Cleveland got a head of the pack and radar'd the dd's in the night battle early and just waltzed through and got 5 stars first time . it helps if you are lucky and you get a good team :)
I get five stars in both the Cleveland and Baltimore regularly with random teams, the first one or two game were 4 stars because everyone was still learning the op. but now it's like a roll over every game.
I did 5 stars the three times I played, all with randoms, including the first time I played... it really is not a difficult mission, just push forward as a mod, spread out enough to dodge torps (and keep them from ALL being launched in the same area [making a thicker torp soup]) but close enough to have a thick AA bubble...
the Zao was there to prevent any "smart play" to attack the base and the surrounding area early on. I think it is WG way to prevent player exploiting the game pattern which has been happening in all operation available today.
Could be yes

The torps are coming from submarines, or the motor pool....it's the only logical explanation :)
Actually people do fail it believe it or not lol. Once I looked up and found that I was the only one left alive. The biggest mistake is not getting to the Marines quick enough and going in the middle at the end. Is total torp soup
Well everything is DERPable xD
This operation was much harder in PTS. There were torps more than that. Torps everywhere and and Myokos focus fire marine base one at time and loosing at least one all the time.

Yeah I was a little worried after PTS but five starred it first time out on the live server.
First time 5 star for me also. I think this is the most easy operation i ever see :D. But maybe this hole operation just for testing the "night" battle.
We shall see
Definitely the easiest operation. Most operations have objectives to pressure you divide your forces, that is what is missing here.
July 21, 2021. I loved Cherry Blossom ( also Operation Dynamo). Sure wish WG would rotate some of these back in to play.
look at Wows Devblog "UPDATED OPERATIONS"
is baaaaaack

Illumination

Yeah farm farm farm
Flambass yup
Do it with a totally random team. Not with 2 rank 1's, a rank 5 and a rank 6 person.
i did this with 6 other random players it was a wipe since they could not do the defending part.
I think they may have nerfed this Op. from the PTR. Played 7 games; 5x5 stars, 1x4 stars and 1x3 stars wins. PTR struggled to get 3 stars from about 15 games
*I find Baltimore better at this Operation than the Cleveland. She doesn't fire as fast, But she hits Hard.*
nice vid, thx for the effort.

I don't play on PTS but I'll take you word for it ;)

It is very possible yes

What you said as to how it can go bad, is usually how it happens. People wander off & get torpedoed or don't play the objective

Flambass, I do not want to be a smart ass but the "ATTACK" sign, could it be more clear than that?? HAHAHA
what is a good ship for this operation, beside the cleveland? Edinbourgh?
Have you got poor eyesight Flambass???
Played it with the Baltimore having watched a Jingles video on it. The game crashed for the 1st 2 minutes so had to play catchup but finished with 5 stars on the first attempt and in 3rd place. Very easy.
after playing the missions several times, i'm thinking is it possible to dmg or even sink one or two Zaos?
Is there a way to join an operation without being in a division?
Only if you play operation of the week, otherwise you need a division
Thank you.
Easy way to farm xp for Cleveland and Martel when its no easy in random with RNG BBs hell
2022 queria essa operação de volta
Charles Martel is very good for this Op.

The illumination flares literally don't matter.
Marcel Woods - Cherry Blossom
an illumination shell, aka starshell
what do you get for 5 stars is it even worth it ?
5th star is a day of premium. Meh
You get a lot of XP and credits. Good farming.
my game locks up when i try this op and I go pink
Thaaa maaan!
;)
Wargaming, really? 'Illumination bombs'...?
You'd think that as Wargaming appears to pride itself on historical knowledge, they would know that those are called 'starshell'.
I think it is quite an easy one to get 5 stars... :-)
Bad Horn?
Blame *Varyag*
7 man division and you still lost one ship?
its the easiest mission I have played just dont rush towards aerodomes once marines safe then your fine.
Yeah, ez you say, try to 5 star this one with randoms buddy(except you, I don't trust anyone from comments who claim this one in first attempt)...and fine gameplay like always

It certainly looks that way
so easy haha
