Great artists! I love this song, especially because my name is Konrad :) As you probably know, the piece is an interpretation of a German children's book. When I was a kid people would mock me by reciding the beginning of this poem: "Konrad, sprach die Frau Mama..." I was so terrified by this story, that I never even had the idea of sucking my thumb. Some years ago I went to a Tiger Lillies concert with my friend Philipp... guess what: his favorite song is Fidgety Phil :)
I saw them years ago at Savoy Theatre in Helsinki, Finland. They were totally great, as beinf the part of the play Shockheaded Peter. I even got their cd from that gig. So thank you, it really makes you believe in art and freedom of creativity!
Up to a couple of nights ago I'd never heard of The Tiger Lillies. I saw them on SKY, Arts program and couldn't get enough. After watching many videos on You Tube, I would love to see them live. Such Talent. They say they won't be shown on British television, but I'm sure there must be a slot for them, maybe not on Blue Peter, but I'm sure they would get a great following in the right spot.
@EGPMH while ring around the rosy is about the black plague, neither She'll be coming round the mountain or Polly wolly doodle is about Jack the Ripper victims. Polly wolly doodle was first published in 1880, and Jack the Ripper was only active during 1888. She'll be coming round the mountain is based on an old African American Spiritual about the Second Coming. Though there are many different versions of the lyrics, the "She" in the song is thought to be union organizer Mary Harris Jones.
Thank god they have this version way better than that nightmarish leach conrad puppet that give me nightmares and the tailor is suppose to be a bad guy🤣🤣
like closing in on you ???. I saw them in a local folk club in north wales (mate of mine booked them) brilliant artists but it was a bit much for a few who were seen banging there heads on a wall and shrieking in horror
@sunetemov goldly locks and the three bears originally had the bears eat her and remeber red riding hooding the wolf eats her grandma and before he can eat red the woodsman (logger) comes in and cuts the wolf open letting the grandma out and then there is pinocco and alice in wonerland with all the drug and murder referances
@mislabeledracoon not as bad as ring around the rosey which is about the black plague or how about she'll be comming around the mountain and polly wolly doodle they are both about Jack the Ripper victims
I thought his last name was pronounced like Jacques Brel and now i hear it is Jake. Is that really so or did the interviewer got it wrong? (im sure im wrong :)
I lived in Germany as a kid and was freaked out by the weirdness and brutality of these stories. Nevertheless, I don't think the Tiger Lillies capture the sentiment of this kind of folklore, they are more using it as a means to expound their own brand of oddness, which seems to be weird just for the sake of being weird.
