When Bowie started this band he became famous with, he originally wanted Jeff Beck as the guitarist. Who refused. And when he came across the brilliant (and highly underrated) Mick Ronson (who could also read and write and was the orchestra arranger of Lou Reed's 'Transformer') he cheered "Now I have my own Jeff Beck!' A pity he died so young. And nice to finally hear them all together.
Not underrated. Nearly trollish comment like I see on all videos of artists who people want to comment on their post. Ronson arranged all the strings and songs and was an incredible player who performed some of the most iconic solos ever. Anyone with an ear knows he was a top musician and part of one of the greatest bands. RIP Jeff and Ronno.
@@Synonomous He was a great guitarist but he has always been very underrated. The lady who posted was exactly right and I doubt she posted so others would comment. I'd guess she posted what she was thinking and feeling. Just uncool to attack someone praising someone you like.
Apparently Jeff wouldn't give release permission for this performance to appear in a film to be made. He felt his performance was substandard and after much pleading the reason he gave to Bowie management was "I didn't like the shoes I was wearing". What an unadulterated legend he was 😊😊👍.
damm.........I'm a grown man aged 64 and just been brought to tears........best version of a long loved song i have ever heard. thankyou so much fro bringing this treasure to the tube.
Superb! The Spiders sound even more powerful with the addition of Beck. Never seen or heard this before - has to be one of the best performances of the song ever.
The pairing of Jeff Beck and Mick Ronson. OMG. I heard this back in the early 70's on TV. Even more impressive today. So this was not part of the official album release. Right up there with the rare pairings of Beck and Page. Bowie, Ronson and Beck have all left Hotel Earth.
Correct, it was briefly in the original cut of the concert film before being omitted out of the theatrical version. It finally got an official release in the Moonage Daydream film and companion album.
Luckily, I found a DVD bootleg of this entire uncut Ziggy movie . While it's awesome to even have it, I wish it was a whole lot easier on the eyes to watch.
Wow. Thanks for posting. Jeff could fit in anywhere and always add something unique. What a talent. He'll be sorely missed by his fans and fellow artists alike.
Cortesia entre Iluminsdos, Ronson conduz Beck até a frente do palco, por admiração ao colega mestre da música. Beck, Ronson, Bowie e banda, Iluminados, mestres do respeito e da Luz.
Wow! Amazing video! Thank you and RIP Jeff Beck. RIP Mick Ronson. RIP David Bowie. RIP Trevor Bolder. Long live Mick Woodmansey. They were really amazing!
Maybe now that Jeff has sadly passed away we'll finally get a remastered/updated version of this farewell concert that includes this Jeff Beck segment in better quality.
Best version of this Ive heard and seen so far. Great effort! Hopefully this iconic guest appearance will surface on a fully restored and complete! ZSTMP DVD / Blu-ray sooner rather than later. 👍🏻

Thank you so much for sharing this incredible video of incredibly talented and innovative musicians who will never be forgotten. This brought light to my darkness and was a totally unexpected surprise.
I saw this tour in NC , was worried i might be seen as gay!, Bowie came down to stage, lowered in a plexi bubble . Nice to see Jeff didnt 'get in the way" of Mick ,as lots of guests do. He played his lick ,got out ,and supported the song, sign of real pro.
Great stuff, indeed! But did you notice that there are some additional video angles that were inserted into the main video? You'll see it at 7:33 and 7:58. Makes me wonder if there's additional video from the movie that's not been released. Those same angles are in the Moonage Daydram documentary.
Good eye, I did insert those into the main video to give a more clear and complete picture of the tune. I did this mainly for fun and because the whole performance should be released. There’s another version of the last three minutes by Nacho’s Video (check him out) or so utilizing the clips from the doc. He even said that there’s really nothing out there of quality to make an edit of the whole song. He’s right in that. So this is the whole thing plus the footage from MD, grains, pixelations, warts and all. I’ve also done an edit of Moonage Daydream utilizing the additional angle shots featured in the new film. It’s just been uploaded. Check it out.
@@ChangesBowieOdyssey Well done, you and Nacho! Here's hoping that all the better quality video of this set will be released in its entirety sometime in the near future, while we all still have a pulse.
Jeff wouldn't join Bowie, the Stones or others. He was always his own man, and not some singer's guitar player. Beck, a legend, true artist, guitar genius. You heard rest, you're listening to the best! Jeff Beck! Jeff Beck! Jeff Beck!
Ay yee! It takes a while to start get going but somewhere around 3 minutes on it really does. Beck needs time to surrender himself to the groove and also to be free on the stage ("with these loonies..." I can imagine him thinking first). And the last 3 minutes or so is just sheer rock'n roll / hard blues nirvana.
I know why you’ve said that but seriously why on earth would he have done that? The chemistry between Bowie, Ronson, and Beck was magical and you want to dilute that??? Also Bowie was never shy of giving others the total lime light when needs be but this was a time when quite rightly all 3 shared the stage in order to totally bounce off each other along with the rest of the Spiders of course. RIP all of them. Hard to believe currently Woody is the only surviving member.
Jeff Beck and Mick Ronson, two of the greatest guitarists of all time.
When Bowie started this band he became famous with, he originally wanted Jeff Beck as the guitarist. Who refused. And when he came across the brilliant (and highly underrated) Mick Ronson (who could also read and write and was the orchestra arranger of Lou Reed's 'Transformer') he cheered "Now I have my own Jeff Beck!' RIP Mick.Ronson. Totally underrated.
He passed away way too young.
Bowie got all the accolades while Ronson got mostly ignored, despite being terrific.
I got to see him with Bowie around this time 💖

This blew my mind. Mick and Jeff TOGETHER. I am in awe.
Outstanding version of an already great song.
Class act, Beck; could've just hogged the stage the whole time and nobody would've minded, but he gives Ronson plenty of room to shine
and no one plays over Bowies harp...class acts

So many years after, another reminder of how Jeff Beck has been the original guitar hero. RIP to my favorite ever.

Mick Ronson , Jeff Beck , David Bowie, playing Jean Genie on Olympus.
Ronno with Becko! Incredible!
Utterly sublime :)
LOVE how Bowie steps out front before the solo should be with love me do!
...'before the solo should be with'?
Jeff Beck and Mick Ronson, not a combination that I would have thought of.
What a freak show! What a spectacle! What an outrage! Oh yeah, and David Bowie was there too.
R I P to both of them !! BTW medley should have "I'm A Man" rave included in title ! GREAT stuff !!
Still can't believe it.

Jeff Beck and Mick Ronson?...
Bowie should've walked off the stage at that point and let Mick & Jeff throw down.

The Spiders were the hottest band in the world at that time. Bowie was NOT vacating the stage. Lol
Shortly after this show, longtime drummer Mick Woodmansey was terminated for asking to be paid as much as the rest of the band.
Sadly Bowie fired Woodmansy as his drummer because of his minor disagreements with arrangements.
