- The Pentagon’s Space Development Agency (SDA) may acquire satellites to defend against ballistic and hypersonic missiles. The satellites will be part of a global missile-tracking space sensor array to shield against Russian and Chinese missiles. As per reports, current US missile defence systems lack the capability to track and destroy hypersonic weapons. Due to its speed and hyper-manoeuvrability, hypersonic missiles can outsmart current detection systems.

Also, wouldn’t the relay of the missile location, etc back to someone capable of launching a counter missile; wouldn’t that little “delay” that that relay would take, wouldn’t a hypersonic missile have a completely different location and possibly trajectory by then; therefore pretty much rendering the original “alert” useless?? There are two major obstacles in the interception technology of hypersonic gliding weapons so far there are no solutions yet for the US military. The first is detection. The reason is that hypersonic gliding weapons fly on the surface of the atmosphere. The air is extremely thin, and the speed of the aircraft is extremely fast. A plasma barrier is formed, and no detection means can see through its interior (equivalent to invisible, Russia once envisaged the use of plasma technology to achieve the effect of fighter stealth), and secondly, it is necessary to have interceptor missiles with superior flight speed and maneuverability better than that of targets (US is left behind of this). Furthermore, the hypersonic gliding weapons maneuver between the thermosphere, the mesosphere and stratosphere layers of the atmosphere. The changes in aerodynamic variables are extremely complex. The United States does not have past technology reserve in this regard, and it is extremely difficult to solve these issues in a short time. This is the most embarrassing place for the US military at present.

Both China and Russia has anti-satellite weapons. So the Constellation project won't still solve the problem. I guess that is why USA was so exagerrated, when Russia tested its anti-satellite weapon this year.
@iTs Messiah it was distance of about 40 km between the trajectries of ISS and the main field of debris. Precautions were made because of potential thousands of debris, which they could not detect. So far the ISS is fine, so the precaution was not really necessary. ISS is also very old and will be retired anyway in the late 2020-s.

So US may put its nuclear forces on alert or launch preemptive strike.

If used properly Satellites could make a very strong defense network against certain missiles. But probably not all, as those missiles are not a big target, and challenging to hit. Even something like a proximity device that doesn't need to make contact with the missile by using an EMP pulse. I think this would cause havoc to most Russian missiles. Especially, if as reported Russia is now using computer chips from old appliances to build new missiles to replenish what has been used in Ukraine. Russia though still has plenty of old inaccurate Soviet era missiles, just not enough microwaves.
I just admire USA very much within a month or so they found the solution for hyperrsonic missiles . INDIA can learn how they are very alert and dedicated towards their safety ..

Russian Avangard hgv was said to be able to make a sharp turn at mach 12, evading any abm missiles. Even with array of satelites and directed energy weapon systems (assuming that they're already operational) it will still be very hard to intercept them, let alone current missile interceptor.
You could stop it by launching missile or using eletronic warfare for involve it to get havy manuvers or travelling around the target. This will drain all fuel reserve of the missile.

Any interception would need predicable path, but this travels at an unpredictable path then how to intercept? Also, hypersonic interceptor would be needed to intercept hypersonic. Currently, only Russia and China have hypersonic missiles.

It's just basic physics that's speculated, like gravity on descent and thrust by mini explosions touching atmosphere and lack of friction on ascent -possibly shutting down fuel outside those "touches" to save it, these vertical waves being intended only to continuously accelerate and not to fool chasers, this being only a side effect. The 10 Mach + speeds are achieved on the last portion of trajectory only -when they "disappear" from radar. Indeed once accurately established in a powerful computer on ground, the optimal trajectory depending on the distance to the target, a fixed table of such trajectories is loaded with a simple interpolation logic, so once the target coordinates are loaded the optimal trajectory is easily established by interpolating existing data and some random but fixed zigzag added at the end. To get this data however some homework must be done: correct physical phenomena and parameters introduced in the flight simulator software -on ground, by many corrective experiments done with much cheaper 10/20 times smaller rockets, some AI and numeric algebra algorithms used for faster results. Even Putin admitted that any country having cruise/ballistic missiles can soon have it, like Pakistan or Egypt. It will be very sad to realize later that war in Ukraine lasted more than 6-9 months, while most countries having cruise/ballistic missiles could have had it in 2-3 months sparing a million civil lives, as now Putin has the upper hand and tries to take the maximum profit while still can.
