Biggest regret when buying my first new boat was ordering with optional snap on covers. It does not completely cover the deck from sun damage plus it’s time consuming to put it on when you’re suppose to be enjoying. Only put it on once and afterwards bought full boat cover which covered the whole deck. Additionally, Snaps (almost 100 of them) are so ugly and hard to clean where snaps are. I’m in a process of removing all 100 snaps, fill holes and gelcoat.

Water always runs down the windshield and under the bow cover and into the boat. Does anyone have a common sense solution for this?

Have you come up with a solution for this?

@@LacrosseGameTapes Yes, I have. I made a bow cover that continues up the windshield and snaps to the top.

@@Cotronixco nice thanks. So you made an entire new bow cover or added a piece to the existing cover?

@@LacrosseGameTapes Actually, I did both. I started by adding to the bow cover, then later I duplicated that with sunbrella.

What if my boat doesn't already have snaps installed? Is it ok to install snaps into the hull or not recommended? Thank you.

I did it successfully. It's crucial to do to things: punch and stamp the holes before drilling to prevent chipping the gel coat, and choose the proper drill size by testing first.

Agreed. After drilling the pilot hole for the snap screw, I use a larger drill to countersink the gel coat so that, when you install the snap, it doesn't crack/chip the gelcoat. Hope this helps.

Hi Rob! The answer depends on your boat brand and model. If Taylor Made or Ameritex Fabric Systems made you boat's original canvas, then you can put in a request for quote using the form on this site: ameritexdirect.com. We also sell the snap tool on the site, if you contact our customer service department.
