Bill. I always appreciate you and really appreciate your talking about watch protection. I’ve long debated getting insurance but I do have a safety deposit box. I guess that is the best bet! Happy Thanksgiving Bill!
Good to see you’re thinking about protection, John! Insurance is expensive, and with the volatility of watch prices, it's easy to spend a lot of money for too little or too much insurance. A watch in the bank vault is safer I think. Take care, Bill
Hi Bill, if at any point I feel that I haven't bought and kept a watch that I regret, is is considered sub-optimal? Is regret or dissatisfaction a necessary part of the "optimization" of watch collecting?
Not really Gilberto... the watch didn't change, you did. Early purchases in watch collection often lack the more sophisticated knowledge we accumulate later. Same watch; Different perspective on watches. Take care, Bill
I have 4 Parmigianis, John, and my Kalpa was in need of major service; so I gave it to my friend who is starting his collection and will pay the service costs. I'm down to 3 PFs...love 'em all still. Take care, Bill
I live near an ultra luxury watch store. They don't sell JLC, IWC like brands because they are not exclusive. They told me that some of the collectors they work with own 150 ultra luxury watches. So, the total value must be around $10 million, which makes sense because that is what you need to build an ideal watch collection without having to settle for much cheaper alternatives. So, almost all of us will never be able to afford the watches we really want. Have to come to terms with that. One silly solution is to build a collection buying 100 watches costing $100 each. After acquiring that many watches you get sick of them and the need to own multiple grails will go away.
Gary, somewhere between 10k and 10m (and even under 10k) there are lots of great watches-just requires more than ringing up an AD and telling him what you want. Take care, Bill
I started off with Seiko movements then I got miyota 9015 and ETA 2834 on my edox grand ocean.
Now I am looking at a hand wind on a glycine kmu 48
Interesting combinations James. Take care, Bill

Also Bill. I didn’t catch what happened with your Kalpa. Gorgeous watch. Still desire a Parm. What caused it to stop working do you know?
