lovely mixture of many beloveds...yet still unique! this is why i love Deathrock and Dark postpunk. LA Deathrock was very heavily surf-rock influenced. Check out my Homie Desmond Doom for more info. 😜
I remember getting this from girlfriend, home recorded from radio onto casette, I was 15 years old back then and totaly in love with Depeche Mode - then BLAST! Clan of Xymox. Awesome. Until today.
The best COX's song they ever made! I saw this video in the year 1984 and I loved them immediately. The 4AD's image's style is unique, perceptible in "A Day"'s video, frame by frame.
I've spent about a few days now randomly telling my online friends and random people I meet in video games that Clan of Xymox is a very underrated goth band lol
Ah the glory days of music! 'A Day" is most likely one of the the most underrated song ever..opulent and filled with life. The original line up of COX will remain one of my most treasured bands.
This video that I saw for the first time in 1985 represents perfectly the inherent dramatic atmosphere of the song "A Day". Faster images, fading details, all elegantly akin to the old 4AD's style. This is not a video is a masterpiece!
A trilha sonora chamou minha atenção. Escutei um som que me pareceu familiar. Vim pesquisar no UA-cam a trilha sonora. A parte instrumental do início da música "a day" da banda Clan Of Xymox. Bem como Front 242, Bauhaus, The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, The Cult, The Smiths, Joy Division, entre outros. Voltei no tempo.
totally agree ! And Clan of Xymox was, in their first two albums (eponym "Clan of Xymox" then "Medusa"), specialist in a kind of magic like a key to another world, in a romantic way, hypnotism and melancholy like a royal way to the unconscious.
Amazing to hear this again. I bought the 12inch in what seems to be a previous life, never seen the video before. This is one of the best forgotten (or ignored) songs ever, should have been on all compilation cd's of the genre, it would so stand out on any of em... TY for the reminder, I need to hear the amazing long version NOW!
I heard it late one night on a college radio station in fall of '85, but the hippie at the mall record store was like "Zymot?," so I had to go to the city to get it!

+Roman Alaivi I agree, I absolutely love that song, You should also check out the song by Ultravox called "The Voice" Released in 1981. Sounds amazing as this song.
@@jadeipissedoffnow I also had this back then though I was not (knowingly) Goth. Reading the reviews, this is dismissed as derivative of the Cure, New Order, Joy Division. This stood out from that august company. Did I just fall for a commercialised stylistic exercise or is there something going on here? I was reminding myself of this album as influence on Ariel Pink's Not Enough Violence on Pom Pom. It still sounds good to me.

Funny how people tag this kind of music. Dark wave and Goth are terms which didn't exist back then. Great video by the way. I was at a few gigs shortly after this was released.
XExtras 1996 UTTP, I agree, and I find that their remix of "A Day" is terrible. Their albums "A Day" and "Medusa" are my preferred. I assisted their concert to the Elysee Montmartre in Paris in 1989. Then, the group made another music than I less liked.
Beautiful visuals for this video clan of xymox "a day" I love the females profile with the garment over her face at the beginning of this video...she looks like a goddess statue...love the running scene..love the egyptian tomb and temple setting beautiful band clan of xymox is

Cool band. I just found them through watching the movie The Guest. There is some very strong Cure influence here. Reminds me of their early (good) stuff.
never knew there was a video to this. loved this song since i was in the 9th grade, 1988. A long time now! thank you for posting this vid, even if its the radio edit of this song. love it.
ah the days at the city night club on 13 NW 13th ave in portland ore in the late 80's... the main dance floor downstairs and upstairs was goth industrial. this songs reminds me of upstairs when i was all gothed out. good times many moons ago.
yes, me too, reminds me of my first few months at university in 87, i was a goth and they were one of the bands i was into at the time. Wow... so many memories!

The real goth. The 80's were a time of beautiful darkness. I'm glad I got to live it.

You goth to live it
Actually,, They Were Known For Starting "Darkwave",, A Combination Of Punk/New Wave,, Taking Inspiration From Groups Like The Cure.
Menudo, New Kids on the Block, Debbie Gibson, the 80's were the best!!
Every time somebody says "it makes no sense at all" reality phases out and this song fills my head.
The guitar work in this is just mind blowing. Nothing else sounds like it.

The Guest brought me here....
Even though I was an 80's kid and knew the song anyway. 😁
25 years later and it still sounds amazing by totday's standards!
FrightfulAccountant It’s now 35 yrs and going strong 💪

They were so ahead of their time. I'm lucky to have seen them live in 1989 and 1991.

the song is really great...dark and beautiful...
and the singer, oh, my god...he is so beautiful! and his voice, too...love it!
Absolut Balearischer, Delikatessen, Dunkler, Mächtig, Pur und Feiner Göttlicher Klang!
The Guest. Thank you for bringing these songs to me.
I was shocked watching the movie "The guest", had a couple Xymox songs in it. Instantly recognized them. Well placed too!
I've never seen "The Guest" but one of my old professors told me to listen to this song because he said I'd enjoy it, and he was right.
you should probably watch the guest then
+Ana Graciela Exiga I haven't seen "The Guest" either.
It's a great fucking movie. You should watch it.
Saw them in 1990 as headliners, then in 2022 as guest of the T21 concert. Same place Elysee montmartre. Still pleasant.

this guy is getting better as a singer through the years despite many others in goth scene
I haven't heard this in about 20 years. I didn't even remember the name of the songs but I remembered the band. It takes me back.
I bought this album on a whim way back in 85 the cover was surreal. Loved them ever since.
I heard it late one night on a college radio station in fall of '85, but the hippie at the mall record store was like "Zymot?," so I had to go to the city to get it!

This is what something 40 years old sounds like now.... scary huh 😂 Feels kinda like we've been stuck in a repeating time slip
I saw them live in 1985 in Germany. They were pretty good live.
Holy shit... this song came out in 1985? WTF... I thought this came out just in the last couple years. Bad ass

Man this takes me back. Xymox is one of those bands really lost in the haze of new wave music, but they were incredible.
I haven't heard this song in months!!! now I've sent directly to favorites :)
