Matty Harris is a music producer, mixing and mastering engineer from Boston. As a young musician, he won several awards, most notably, the best drummer in New England. He toured with jazz, blues and calypso bands, playing bars and clubs at the young age of 14. After High School, he attended Berklee College of Music where he studied Music Production and Engineering. Learning from some of the most accomplished producers and engineers in the industry. Since then, he has worked on countless records with such artist as; Atlantic Records, RCA Records, WB Records, Kelly Clarkson, Sammy Adams, A$AP Rocky, Logic, Lil Yachty, Cam Meekins, Just Juice, Action Bronson, Danny Brown, Fat Joe, Styles P, La Coka Nostra, and many more. He worked on the Grammy Award-winning song “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson and won the 2008 Boston Music Award for Best Hip-Hop/R&B Producer. He now lives in Los Angeles where he works with artists from all over the world helping them to realize their dreams.
Matty started his online mixing and mastering company, mixandmastermysong.com, with the vision of helping new artists get the same quality mixes and masters as the major label artists he works with. After realizing the advancements of technology, he knew it was time to launch his online mixing and mastering company when he no longer needed the effects of a “big room” studio to achieve high-end mixing and mastering.
Dude your first tip is so useful. I'm so used to applying effects in post, I had no idea you needed to record with the autotune already on the track. Thank you!
Hey! Glad it helped you out!!
Dude youre amazing, really nice video because you came directly to the point why I klicked on the video. Looking forward to new videos
Thanks man!
I love the video. You explained what you needed to explain, but you have to excuse me for laughing when you basically said "Well, if he were here, we could use it then you could hear that it's right." Lmaoo ! The video helped loads, that part was just super funny to me. Okay, leaving now.
searched forever finally found a good one. good job bro
there are many aspects to the art of recording engineering but auto tune has undoubtedly become a big part of modern music. YOUR VIDEO DEFINITELY WENT IN-DEPTH AND CLARIFIED,OR DEMYSTIFIED THE USE OF THIS EFFECT..THANK YOU MUCH..FROM EPITOME RECORDINGS
Thank goodness I have Autotune on the UAD platform. No setting up an aux channels. Just record straight from the mic with the autotune plugin on the channel strip. It prints inside logic with the autotune effect added.
Some more tips if anyone wants to know how to deal with latency while singing with Autotune as a insert. Set your buffer size to 256 or below. If your computer can handle 128 or 64 its a must for near zero latency!! In my experience AT 5 and Autotune EFX is useable latency but it doesn't fully correct bad singing while live. Autotune Evo has the highest latency but sounds good. Auto tune 8 is the most natural sounding and also has a low latency tracking mode( my favorite version)Also remember to use FORMANT. This can help singers who want to change Timbre, it can make you sound older or younger and keeps your natural resonance of your voice.
You help me a lot bro!! Thank you
REALLY helpful that you said I actually had to put autotune on BEFORE recording. i swear i watched 20 tutorials or so and nobody has mentioned this. I always put it on after my recording and it sounds like shit. thank you very much man
Love it hey love the Boston bubble heads lol love the plugin alott
Hey.. thank u for your time!.. greetings from Argentina

I need your help in learning more about music autotune and autotune my song Cheap Thrills
If you want the equivalent, there is a simple trick. If it's a flat, go down a letter and add a sharp. Ex: D flat is C sharp. Vise versa. If it's a sharp, go up a letter and make it a flat. Ex: A sharp is B flat. So, with this info, you should now be able to know F sharp is G flat!
this dude a fucking genius, wish I could record around this cat.
haha! My man!
3:33 - Mini-Dab on them haters
Yea Man thank you. But one Problem. How I know what is the key in the moment when I am recording at the first time. After the record tis to late to find the right key.
holaamigo saludos desdecolombia tu me podias dar la descarga del autotune efx3
good video dude
Thanks!!!
and the whole reason i clicked on your video was to see how to set it up for recording since there isnt many videos on how to set it up. but this video said the ultimate tutorial thinking from start to finish tutorial setting up aux tracks and how to set up in other daws such as pro tools that has to have low latency turned off in order to record with it on but you will get a loop back in monitoring etc... but thanks for the part that you did cover hopefully you could make a video from start to finish for those who dont know anything about autotune or how to set it up in daw and plugin settings..
That sounds like you just don’t know how to use your DAW.
Do you offer services to mix, master and pitch correct songs?
YOU WANT TO FIND THE KEY QUICKER DOWNLOAD SONG KEY MK2 THANK ME LATER
What plug ins or add ons do I need to buy or download to be able to hear the actual auto tune affects while recording live. I have a korg 12 track digital recorder that allows me to hear affects while recording but it has a very limited number of effects to choose so I use my laptop and a program with an interface. What do I need to add to be able to hear and record live with auto tune already on as you mentioned in the video
you need the autotune VST and the correct configuration thru a DAW. Id try reaper for DAW, you can try before you buy and has great features..
@@FiveDrexler I already have Reaper and when I turn Audio monitoring on. There is latency in live recording . Even with an interface... but if I record blind with no monitoring sound there's no latency when I record...
Also, I whole-heartedly agree that recording with auto tune on will make the vocal way better.
I use Mac & Cubase 8, and i have lots of latency, even turning latency to 64 samples.
I use reaper and with right settings i have no latency, and use several other FX at same time, autotune,eq,compressor, reverb, delay, limiter.etc Depending on your version of Autotune, some have a Live feature. Or the Autotune EFX is the cheaper/ less latency version....i had to change my interface audio settings to get it to work on my setup. Your computer speed could be an issue if your computer doesnt have alot of processing speed/RAM.
What about if a singer complains because the feedback is delayed?
What’s the best free or cheap auto tune program?
oh dude its Cam Meekins producer :D
which software are you using
how much u charge to mix and master
XXxtenation never used Autotune on look at me
Jordan G xxx didn’t have the choice too what made him such a legend literally used what he had * that’s why he choose to kee the distorted sound *
Is that studio one ?
Can u make a video on how to record with autotune on so u can hear it while you record
it varies on what DAW your using.
@@FiveDrexler studio one
Software name bro?
what mic is he using?
This is how you make a video..Thx a lot..You crossed all T's and dotted all I's...I'll subscribe so i can stay up to date...Peace Family...
u look hella familiar. r u from houston or sum
Thanks à lot bro
what is the name of this software.. plz help
what???
Studio One 3
How does the Apogee Symphony Mk2 compare to the Mk1?
but alotta studios CANT play it out at the same time, its not that easy to do, you have to have a super professional computer to make that happen
live autotune.
and im fuckin in audacity hehe
Just download key finder
anonymous 23 is it free
Cleveland Cody Forever yeah bro
Send me a link
Honestly just download a free dj program .....wala it's magic tells you the key and bpm .....this looks barbaric-like in this new tech-savy world😂🤣 speed is key my guys thank me later 😎

How to avoid latency when recording with autotune on ?
You cant, unless your computer is a god
But you can remove it by clicking the flag on mastertrack
Put the attack to none
you turn the "low latency" button on
Lower your buffer rate in your DAW when you record. Raise when you mix.
Ultimate AutoTune guide my A**! He explained barely half off the knobs... WTF?
I want to sound like Desiigner
Check the video my man. A lot of Desiiger sound is autotune, but you gotta remember he has a really unique voice. Setup the autotune the way I show in the video, and then try to figure out your own sound with the effect. Uniqueness always wins in the music biz!
mixandmastermysong.com with future he's more pitch correcting? I gotta rap sing I'm working on a track I'm trying get that style
The reason why most people dont sing through the plugin is the latency (specially for rap).
Can you please explain? Doesnt Antares and others add like 20ms to the total latency?
Hey man. I've never had the problem in Pro Tools. I know that auto-tune 8 has a low latency mode that works as well. Maybe some people had problems with the evo version, but that's long gone now.
Hi dude! You are good with music stuff! Do you know how to isolate vocals from song?
Amazing Tutorial!
One lame engineer use to record without it better wen record with it
Very sad how we rely on finding the keys of songs by guessing notes and hearing what sounds good. Then we guess which key that might be instead of learning basic fucking music theory. For anyone watching this video, take a week and learn how to recognize keys. While you're at it, learn basic music theory. Maybe then you can write good music.
I hear what your saying. But there are some talented people who make music and don’t know theory. Also, for someone new, who wants to have fun and make a song with autotune this could be a helpful way to figure it out. The great thing about music is, there are no rules. When I was a kid I would make songs up with a guitar and I didn’t have the slightest idea where middle C was. But I was having a blast. I then got more serious, and got a bachelors degree at Berklee, where I learn a bit too much music theory! Ha! Anyway. I say all that to say this. We are all on different paths and learn different ways. I’m just trying to share my knowledge. :)
Im not faulting you for making the video. This is a widespread problem across the world where people believe that music can be made by anyone, and anything goes. That is not the case. Music is an elite art. We are in the "post-modernism" era of music; anything is considered music now. Pop music nowadays is a bassline, some sparse samples, and people speaking over it. Thats not art, that takes no effort, no skill, no work. I could put together a modern hit in a day, which is ridiculous.
People who make this kind of music and have to rely on hearing what notes sound right dont have a place making music. Its not hard to learn music theory, its just a lot of information. But people don't want to put in the work to make it happen, and I don't respect lazy people.
stop being so pretentious
@@mixedbymatty dont mind nadiv i bet he doesn't even know how middle c sounds.
Really just learn Music theory. It takes you like 5 hours of your life and makes everything much easier...
WOW. I have never seen such a messed up way to determine the key of a song. I don't know what DAW you're using, but mine shows you the key. It also will tell you all the variations with a circle of fifths. Do you have any musical theory behind you? If not, you may want to check some out. Music is not a guessing game.
Hey Raymond. Well the goal was to help people who don’t know music theory to figure out the key. Apparently that attempt failed in terms of helping you. I am a graduate of Berklee so I know some theory. :). It’s not easy to make videos that everyone loves, but this video has helped some a lot so for that I’m grateful. I hope some of my other videos can be helpful to you.
You are truly correct. That is one of my biggest beef about all the "Pro Tools Studio One" users. I have been truly gifted from God as a musician. I have played at RCA until they closed down, but was instantly picked up by Capitol and MCA. I do not read music per see, but I do read the Nashville style music very well. I'll try to attach to you on your site if I can't hear. Back to what I was saying. Music comes from the heart, not a piece of paper. The theory part you do pick up along the way. You already know most of it. It's only an octave. Just apply the knowledge you do have. I didn't realize that making a chord a minor chord all you have to do is to flatten the 3rd step. See, I know more theory than I thought, From that small, a small amount of knowledge just, just expand on it. The key of any song 99,9% is the first and last Chord.
Here is my wat of reading music. The greatest thing about this way is that if the key changes, the only corrections on the paper is the change the top letter. S fifth is a fifth nop matter what key you are in. The only change is the root.

You might want to change the name of this video. It's the most UN ultimate video you can get.
It's for people who don't even know what a key is! Complete non musicians. And people who haven't got any common sense either. Probably kids that want to record something and make it sound like Cher. For that type of thing you can do different things. Record the vocal and then either wack the autotune on with full retune, or play about with different keys and scales to force the effect in different ways, or make block notes on graph mode and sculpt the effect by hand. Or record with the effect on. It's all common sense. No one needs teaching or either telling that. Your own brain knows it's obvious. Of course recording through Autotune is going to be a good way to record the Cher effect. When the vocal is recorded, it's just there. But when you sing through Autotune you can play it, sing in a way to get the best effect that you're after. It's common sense. As a guitarist of 35 years, I wouldn't record a guitar I wanted overdrive on clean and then add overdrive after! That would be idiotic. You've got no idea how each note is going to respond. You need to PLAY the AMP like it's an instrument itself to coax the right 'feel' for every note you play. With this video, I was expecting the ultimate video as in DEEP EDITING in graphical mode. A very in depth tutorial on the using the graphical mode with detailed precision. All I got was a load of nothing. How to find a key! Etc.
Peter Gull Sorry I didn’t help you Peter. However it did help quite a few people. I make these videos for free to help the next generation (who can’t intern in studios anymore cause they aren’t around) learn the basics of recording and making music. I can understand how it might be a bit of a beginner video for someone with your experience.
mixandmastermysong.com Yes. It's not a problem but just miffed at the title.
I want to know what the rest of the settings do
Oo
Did this guy just buy all this equipment 😂 and pretend like he knows about this stuff? All u need is the key. If u are in tune with the song then ur in tune with the Autotune ya feel me? Also ur not intended to sing with it in ur ear u will mess up ur actual vocals trying to sing with it. Actually learn how to sing also I would recommend not to hear urself through ur headset. Keep one ear in for music and the other out. You can already hear urself naturally. Autotune is ment to be put in gradually for where it's needed. Nobody wants to sound like Tpain.
You should start this whole statement with “In my opinion”. Cause your statement is just that. Many people are using auto-tune as a effect. I would bet money that more use for effect than to correct pitch. Melodyne is used much more for just correcting pitch. Also while taking one ear off helps some it doesn’t help all. Keep an open mind when it comes to music my man. No rules. We all do this cause it’s fun. 😎
Great video and all that, like how you really started with the absolute basics of using Auto-Tune, but don't name your video ''The Ultimate Auto-Tune Tutorial" if you're just scratching the surface of it. Still got no idea what 'formant' does, or what to do with the vibrato, and what exactly does 'Pitch Amount' do to the vocals? Honestly, I want everybody that sees this video to know that Auto-Tune has a lot more functions than just making you sound like the new wave of rappers.
Also, just memorize the scales, or at least just look 'em up. You spend 1/4th of your video looking for the scale. That's wasted time.
A twelve minute video on finding key of a song...smh we came here to learn auto tune
It’s helped a lot and some don’t like it like yourself. Can’t please everyone I suppose...
You just do too much talkn🤐
JAY-V Savage shutcho ass up
Sorry looking for a real tutorial...don't want to sound like a no talent rapper! That's some seriously funny stuff....
I hate Autotune honesty, I don't know why this was in my recommended. But if you're letting that go on records, just stop..
