Just checked the stats for USWNT midfielders for 2022. Lavelle 3 goals and 6 assists in 545 minutes. Sanchez 3 goals and 3 assists in 659 minutes. No one else is close. Horan and Sullivan combined 1 goal and 1 assist in 1065 minutes. Plus I'll bet if you look at total team offense per minute played Lavelle and Sanchez would stand out even more. Sticking with experienced players is why the USWNT got Bronze in Tokyo. Time for the young guns to take over with Sanchez and Lavelle wheeling and dealing to Pugh, Smith and Morgan.

Granted they haven't been playing the European powerhouses, but Horan has zero goals and zero assists. Sullivan one and one with similar time played. Lavelle has carried the midfield and whoever else gets played should hopefully compliment her style. I'm an old hockey player so I like players who create chaos. Maybe that's why I was awful at soccer.
I thought US played best game of the tournament last night. I was surprised how easy US overwhelmed the Canadians. The only player I was critical last night was Sullivan. She’s Mia and I don’t get why he didn’t take her out at half time and bring Mewis..

Women's soccer unfortunately has the same problem Men's soccer does in the US: It's a once every 4 year sport for most people. Americans, in general, don't care for USWNT outside of World Cups unfortunately.

Player by player, the uswnt has more talent than canada... what canada has going for them is that this generation of young players are athletic and fit, they will try to out ran you, out jump you, and will tackle all over the field. Both sweden and canada beat an older, veteran USWNT at the Tokyo Olympics using athleticism and physicality. Then, canada played a physical match against sweden in the final, a final won by canada on a penalty shootout. The USWNT is fun to watch cuz their entire game is NOT about physicality.
Interesting you mentioned Canada's physical game. They didn't bring it last night. That was probably one of the gentlest games between the US and Canada. Which is partly why Canada lost.
@@playfulpanthress I think they brought it, it's just that it ran against a fit US team that was up and down the field pressing and fighting most of the game. The US players did the job, but it wasnt the best game they had, especially at converting goal chances, and connecting string of passes.
@@jlb74a Canada was not as physical as usual. Neither was the US, but they were more physical than Canada. At least two of Canada's players were limping off the field. I'm not sure if Canada was shocked that they didn't intimidate the US, or perhaps they were more tired than we know. I love the USWNT. But I'm not so blinded I don't see and acknowledge issues. The US has a LOT of work to do to get back to the form they were in during the World Cup. I usually like the Canada game as it is usually a good benchmark.The struggle of both teams doesn't tell me one is more fit than the other. It tells me they're both struggling and won't survive France, England, Germany or Spain at their current level. Especially with all those missed opportunities. I am legit worried about our chances.
I thought the re-building was overdue, but I am glad to see it progress. New talent integrating like Pugh, Smith, Fox, Huerta. Old talent gracefully taking a back-seat role like Rapinoe, O'hara. But we will need the return of some important injured/pregnant players to stand up to the European teams. Ertz, S. Mewis, Macario, Dunn. We need them back before the World Cup.

The only thing a 1-0 score means is that the rest of the world is getting better and the USWNT still do what they need to do to Win. By one goal or many. The USWNT have the top 2 teams in the world....Their starters are #1 and their Bench is #2, everyone else is still fighting for their scraps.
Let me also put a bit more perspective on this game. The USWNT out shot Canada 17-11, 6 shots on target/goal vs 5 for canada. they had 55% possesion vs 45% for canada, and 7 corners vs 1 for canada. They were dominant. Mal Pugh and Sophia Smith presented huge problems for Canada that they COULD NOT SOLVE. The only reason the score wasn't higher was due to Pugh and Smith being off target, which happens to EVERY player...BUT the chances and opportunities were there and the USWNT took them but unfortunately didn't capitalize on them. But they won. Another thing to look at is this: The last time ANY Team scored on the USWNT in CONCCAF play was 11 years ago. ELEVEN YEARS. They went clean again and against their biggest rival....and I guarantee you the CWNT will not be saying "Oh we almost had them". Because that is no consolation. One last thing: 51-3-7. 51 Wins, 3 loses, and 7 ties. USWNT Vs Canada. Oh wait, 52.
