Debbie Gibson VS Tiffany 12-15-88 TV interview

Debbie Gibson discusses comparisons to fellow teen songstress Tiffany in a television interview broadcast 12-15-88, around a month before the release of her Electric Youth album. The BetaGems channel also has "Debbie Gibson 1-14-88 late night TV performance" and "Debbie Gibson 8-21-87 two songs TV performance."
BetaGems are culled from an archive of over 1000 beta video tapes recorded from the early 1980s into the 1990s. Most feature live music performances broadcast on television in San Diego CA, though there are also rarely seen commercials, comedy clips, and other material that doesn't seem to be anywhere else on UA-cam or online.
Most of the tapes were recorded on a Sony SL-HFT7 Super Beta Theater Hi-Fi Stereo - the same model was refurbished and is being used for these digital transfers and uploads. In rare occasions where a BetaGems clip does appear elsewhere, we're only uploading if our own beta master is better quality or contains material not seen previously. Much footage comes from public television and public access broadcasts that the taper, who worked for a local cable TV production company in the 1980s, monitored nightly for several years. Some of the programming is strictly regional, mostly from the San Diego area.

Wouldn’t it have been interesting to see Debbie Gibson blow up and become a Taylor Swift-like powerhouse in the music industry? She certainly had the right stuff for it. I recently watched her Electric Youth tour from Japan and was amazed at how much she packed into one show. Singing and dancing and listening laying keyboards without the benefit of auto tune or elaborate backing tracks. That girl can breathe, dance, and hold a note. It’s so good to see that she is still as vibrant all these years later.

None of the young 'powerhouse' singers of today can compare to Debbie Gibson and the likes. These older singers made it without auto tunes, hype, social media, and wokeness BS. Swift might arguably be the 'powerhouse' of her era, but Debbie' s and her rivals' time is are real gold. Those where the years when lyricists wrote meaningful songs, and song writers spoke with real music.
