@raccooner1 Adventure was first released for the Atari 2600 in 1980. It's been replicated on many different platforms since then, including some TV plug-and-play devices like Jakks TV Games. The version captured here is what's on atari.com/arcade/arcade/adventure. It's an exact replica of the original 1980s Atari 2600 release.
If they used the exact same code, that should mean the gold key can start in the gold castle, or keys can be mutually locked up, and for game 3 the black key will never be in the white castle. The first and the last I don't like.
level 3 can be anywhere from ridiculously easy to impossible. level 2 is always different because the bat moves things.. but from the placement of things in castles and such, it is always hard mode... level 1 is always the same and its easy
The guy making Pitfall should have listened to that. How do you have victory for a game you've just played for 19.5 minutes look and sound the same as if you ran out of time? Even Superman has a 3-chime victory sound.
Game 2 is the only situation where the black key is in the white castle. He set it up so it never starts there in game 3 in order to have the chalice be in either the white or black castles. Also in game 3 the gold key could start in the gold castle. That shouldn't have happened, but it's OK with me if it's mutually locked, like in the black castle, with the black key locked in the gold castle. Kids should learn when it's impossible. I wised there were more levels after I beat level 3. They could have made one where the chalice starts in the secret message room. I read there could have been 2 or 3 more characters, like another bat or dragon or something else. The instructions said the evil wizard stole the chalice, but we never see him. That could have been a level where you have to defeat him. There's an opening inside the white castle that doesn't lead to any rooms, so that could have been a hint for a later level.
He should have had a level 4 that unlocks after you win level 3 10x (to hide it from the suits), where the chalice is in the secret message room. Of course I was thinking of other ways to have another level, like there being a way to get to a new room in the white castle, or to fight the wizard (the instructions said he stole the chalice). I read he could have had 2 or 3 more dragons or a 2nd bat! Or perish the thought, a character like the scientist or FBI agent from E.T.
Huh! I would have figured that a sub-2-minute time would require using the bat to get the black key so that you don't have to mess with the bridge. Something like grab bat, let bat grab white key, open white castle, reset, get gold key and open gold castle, then go and get the bat (who hopefully has the black key by now), then off to the races. Stashing the bat in the gold castle is a less risky strategy but that isn't guaranteed to work either.
Sometimes the bat can escape you. Then you have to wait for it to come back, and if it finds a new pattern, go look for it. It's funny how many comments I heard over the years of how frustrating that creature was!
@ChristinetheReaper The mazes can't exist in real life, so basic logic fights against memorization when learning the mazes. In short, it's easy to get lost lol

the original atari games had different versions, or different difficulty levels, built into the game.. Asteroids i think has like 20 different variations you can do, but this game has 3.. 1 has a small kingdom with 2 dragons, and no bat. 2 has a large, full, kingdom with a bat, and all 3 dragons.. and level 3 is basically the same as level 2 but with random object placement which doesn't always work because the yellow key might be placed in the yellow castle making it impossible,things like that
Gold key in gold castle was a mistake he could have avoided if either he checked it during the randomization, or set the inside of the gold castle to room 1, and put the gold key in a room 2-29. There still would be a chance that all keys are locked up or black-in-gold w/gold-in-black, but those situations would be more of a feature than a glitch, I think. An impossible setup once every 10 times or so could strengthen kid's problem solving skills to realize they've checked everything and it's not winnable.

I used to go get the "magic dot" u pin the invisible maze and then go back to the main hall way and cross the border at the end.

i've had where i got the chalice before finding the gold key and once i finally find it and win the game the sword is inside the gold castle
