      you do have to start the audio on the device you want to listen to. That will automatically pause what previous devices your were listening to.

      It only works between certain devices, most of the time when I hit the play button on the new device, nothing happens. I usually have to stop the audio on the previous device first, then I can play on the new device.

    Great review guys!! Very well detailed. Helped me make my decision to purchase over the Jabra Elite 10. I do have to disagree with the comments on the buds not performing well with the rock/metal genre. Just put the buds in and listen to some Motley Crue the track She’s got looks that Kill. The guitar riff and sound stage that the buds produce is amazing. I’m no audiophile but this are on par or better than my wired Shure earbuds. Thanks again for your reviews.

    I have the 1st gen EAH-AZ60 and they are my go to buds. Comfortable, great battety, great noise cancelling, very good transparency, good wind handling, and above all they sound fantastic (very good out of the box, but a tweak added life across the mids). I'm mostly a metal head, no complaints with guitar handling.
    For comparison, I also have: B&O Beoplay EX, Airpods Pro 2nd gen, Galaxy Buds2 Pro, Sennheiser Momentum TW 3, Jabra Elite 7 Active, and some cheaper options like the Soundcore Life P3, 1More Aero, etc.
    Really thinking about upgrading to the AZ80

    • @Goodbyehollywooddreams
      @Goodbyehollywooddreams 5 місяців тому +1

      Sound wise no, they both sound great. But the B&O are not as comfortable and don't seal as well, the noise cancelling almost non existent and their "transparency" let's in less sound than just turning off the feature.
      They added a wind reduction feature which works for several minutes, then gives up and just blasts you with white wind noise.
      I like the B&O, they are great in a relatively quiet environment or when it's not windy. They are the nicest looking in a stem style too. But overall, not my favourite

Considering I listen to a lot of heavier music, and music in general with a lot of guitar (especially being a guitarist myself), I don’t think I would ever be satisfied if that frequency range was too subdued and smooth. I got silver AZ80. The weakest point is the ANC, that horribly destroys for its main strength: the soundstage and stereo separation. With direct sound profile, disabled ANC and apply high bitrate LDAC has a phenomenal, mindblowing musicality! AZ60 has a fun, enjoyable sound signature, but AZ80 plays on another league. By the way i didnt use ANC on AZ60 too.

      Well could not have said that better myself. Mediocre to non-existant anc completely negates an otherwise great sound quality. These earbuds are for home use only. Great in covid lock downs, not in the real world, i.e. commuting. Soundproof studio use only.

    • @GarrisonKeller
      @GarrisonKeller 6 місяців тому +1

      Did you go through the earbud fit test and ore-optimization for the ANC? Because they make a HUGE difference. For pre-optimization, I found the middle setting works best. If you turn it all the way up, higher and midrange frequencies come in. All the way down lets others in.
      I played a few samples of street and crowd ambient noise to figure out which setting works best. I can see why some would say it's bad if they just turned that slider all the way up.
      In a side-by-side with airpods pro gen 2 and devialet gemini (both ANC powerhouses), these really don't block out that much less noise. They're marginally weaker but still very good. I'd go through those adjustment settings again to try it out.
      If you're still not getting good results, then I am not trying to invalidate your findings.

    • @Breaky717
      @Breaky717 6 місяців тому

      @@GarrisonKeller Yes, i went through the fit test and optimization. ANC works effectively with the largest tips for me, but definitely degrades audio quality. When you disable it, the audio become fuller, especially the mid range and stereo separation.

      @@GarrisonKeller Actually I gave Az80 another try and bought 3rd party comply foam eartips on Amazon. The difference is night and day. ANC is still nowhere comparable to Sony xm5 but now AZ 80 is quite usable. The phone call quality is also better on az80, but the battery life on Sony with ldac l, anc is still better then Az80. Both earbuds are good. But as a frequent commuter Sony is still my number 1 choice.

    The "but" for me is the lack of a decent amount of volume. I mostly listen to eighties rock and these buds sound like a fish out of water. There's no liveliness to the sound, especially compared to other earbuds like the Liberty 3 Pro which have a very powerful and fun sound signature. Even the in-house EQ can't make these sound good which is a huge detraction. So yes, these completely lack the ability to make electric guitars sound good and it's a terrible shame because the rest of this package is absolutely top rate in my book.

    By the way, regarding the Noise cancellation levels, too much noise cancellation causes disorientation and it is my stance that is why they let some mid-range sounds (vocals) leak in even at full ANC. Safety is #1 priority!
    Regarding the electric guitar, what you are looking for and experiencing is clipping. The Technics smooths out this clipping, again from a safety perspective.

That said, noise canceling has been related to people reporting vertigo like symptoms but I am not sure if it has been proven to be true one way or other. All I know is it can be a psychosomatic effect. I have experienced it and thus I know about it. Like everything else in audio engineering, it is the audio engineers call on how they want to design and fine tune. It is possible that the Technics engineer is like me and does not enjoy a full on 100% noise cancellation as it makes him/her sick. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    It seems you guys have “Technics AZ60” written below the frequency response at 9:20. I guess that part is an error and that wasn’t data for the older AZ60, right?
    Either way, I understand proper measuring rigs aren’t cheap. I just wonder what people are using that are getting graphs that look like this. I’m sure it’s not, but it almost looks compensated. A lot of people, including myself, just keep it simple and first look at raw measurements. I know it ain’t cheap but adhering to the IEC 60318-4 standard is so helpful, also referred to as 711 couplers. Crinacle, if I’m not mistaken, uses a high quality knock off 711 coupler. While it still isn’t cheap, a couple hundred dollars, it provides high quality data that can be compared to rigs using the same standard.
    Now these few respected measuring sources are moving on to the B&K 5128 standard. But I totally understand not wanting to spend 10s of thousands of dollars on that rig. And so, 711 couplers are perfectly adequate for this use case. Otherwise, anyone who knows, knows we can’t look at these graphs and get anything meaningful from them. The overall shape and various reference points we’re used to are all off. That’s why when I look at a measurement like this, and one from another channel that also doesn’t adhere to a standard, the measurements don’t even look comparable at times.
    I really appreciate the videos and info in general. I wanted to try and help with some feedback.

    Credentials: I was a pro sound engineer and producer for 8 years before getting out of the business. I worked on records for Fountains of Wayne, George Clinton and P-Funk, among others.
    So...OMG you're totally right about the "but"! Loud electric guitars sound awful on the AZ80. I relied on your review among others and went forward with purchasing. I was thinking you couldn't be right. But lo and behold...
    I compared the AZ80 with my Airpods 3rd gen and it's night and day how they handle guitar. I tested with Tool and Foo Fighters. Like qith Tool, the song Eulogy has a distorted electric guitar break around 4:30 so you can really isolate it. Couldn't believe my ears. It was just as you described--a sort of overcompression and saturation to the point of adding distortion and losing detail on the sound.
    Note: Due to an inner ear condition I can't use noise canceling. So I tested with NC off.
    I'll also say that generally speaking the AZ80s sound nice but I prefer the sound of the Airpods 3G. While the Airpods don't have the same detail in the highs, and not as good depth of stereo field, the tuning is just so pleasing for my ears.
    So I'll be returning the AZ80s.
