I'm at about 8 months aswell but I dont really know any songs. I've been focusing on scales, chords and soloing. Basically coming up with my own sound. I stead of learning songs learn the minor pentitonic scale and learn to play behind a back track.
@@nicksmynickname I feel like going straight to the lead part is taking it backwards. I personally want to master power chords, rythm, and stuff like that before getting into lead guitar, but I still practice scales sometimes. But I agree with you on the backing track subject.
Before watching: This is just gonna make me feel bad. After watching: hmm a lot better than some that have been playing longer but also a lot worse than some who have been playing for a lot less time than I have.
I've been playing for about 15 years but I doubt you'd be able to tell. I've never been particularly technical nor have I done a huge amount of woodshedding. First of all, I was always kind of intimidated by the guitar gods I admired and never imagined becoming as skilled as Eddie van Halen or his contemporaries, much less somebody like Yngwie Malsteem or Steve Vai. I always imagined myself as more of a rhythm guitarist, and I only learned to play lead partly out of boredom, but mostly because I have zero opportunities to meet other guitarists and form a band. I'm both guitarists in my two-person desktop-produced band out of necessity. I seem to have plateaued anyway. I tried to teach myself sweep-picking last year but I never got past a certain speed after about a month. I'm decent at alternate picking and hammer-ons and pull-offs, but I'm more classic rock than shred.
dude dont be to harsh on yourself, same kinda applies to me. Im just having fun, i dont care who is better or worse or who invested more time than me. When i learn a new song, im proud of myself, wether i should have been able to play it like 3 years ago or not. Its all about having fun, thats why its your hobby
I’ve been playing for 15yrs also, after about 7yrs I discovered the sweep picking, it took 2 yrs to get it smooth and I still have to practice sweeps a lot 😂
I've been playing 35 years. I rarely miss a day. I hardly ever play solos. I only play fast runs for the exercise and dexterity challenge. I would say I'm fairly smooth and composed on what I play but I'm not that worried about it. Even though a lot of people told me I should be in a band I only play because I love to play. I was 10 when Back in Black came out, I heard that song and it lit a fire. I just HAD to make that sound! It worries me that so many people seem to approach music as a competition. I've never been in a band, I don't shred (even though I started playing in the Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen era), I hardly even play solos and I couldn't be happier. Play because it feels good and it makes you happy. Nothing else matters.
I was actually pretty close with most of these, bassist for ten years playing mainly around the Midlands of the uk with anything from school level amateur bands to pro guys. Gear is also often abit of a give away but not always the case. Been with the same band the whole time so I've learnt to read other bands quite well

Yeah. Zack Wylde locked himself in his room for like 2 or three years and came out and started playing for Ozzy, so don't be hard on yourself. #Shrinkening
3:44 I had no idea Magic of Rahat could play the electric guitar. No, but jokes aside. Mad respect for him, who had to go through one of the worst possible things ever.
The problem is basically all these ppl are trying to just shred when a lot of guitarists focus on other skills. It's not every veteran guitarist's skill set.
When he said 8 months, I was like damn I am playing for 8 months, I aint that good. But, what other skills are you talking about? I can play chords well but damn lead is hard. I am truly ng though!
It’s interesting that you’re so close on all of them. I didn’t watch ‘til the end but that one where you said the guy had been playing about fifteen years but only about half of those years did he actually play, that was amazing. It’s encouraging because I’ve been a musician my whole life, college, pro, all that, but only a year on guitar and all that musicianship has certainly helped, but actual skill level on guitar I think I’m just better than average for a one year player. I’m definitely better than the one year players you showed, but not nearly as good as the ones who have been playing five years-I’ll get there. I’m blown away that anyone struggles with power chords past about three months, or can’t do bar chords even after a year or two. I think it’s a matter of diminishing returns, that the longer you play, the less progress you make. So I’m wonder how long you think someone plays before they’re as good as they’re ever going to get. We’ve all seen videos of children who are amazing at only four or five years, but even them I think it doesn’t make much of a difference about age so much as how much actual practicing and playing they do versus just noodling or learning from apps like Yousician and Rocksmith but not actually learning proper technique.
Hee hee, ive been playing since i was 14 im 54. I played in clubs for awhile when i was younger then raised a family. Now im back in it. How long you've been playing is a lot different than how long you've been practicing. There is a HUGE difference in ability between someone who has been playing for 5 years and someone who has been REALLY practicing and learning and pushing for the same amount of time with intent.
4:15 Who is Mr. Shreddy McShred?
The standout difference between uninspired sweeping and tapping is that there was groove and feel. I had a satisfied smirk too.
oh... and did I mention killer tone?

@@suzukistrange9163 Thanks. Looks like fun riffs from 11 years ago:

I started 8 months ago. If I sent a video, he'd probably guess I started playing the day I sent it.
You should practise... 8 months is a long time
@@stratomiesniinsaatanasti5250 I practice on a daily basis, at least 1 hour a day. So far I know songs like Electric Eye from Judas, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Symphony of destruction etc. I'm just a slow learner I guess
7:26 He’s not kidding about that year’s worth of pissed offness with those pinch harmonics!😡🎸🤣
I always come back to this video because I enjoy it so much! If you do another one like this I'll totally send a video in! I just subscribed also!
Nobody:
Jared: im gunna say less than a year to about 20 years
I've been playing for about 15 years but I doubt you'd be able to tell.
@@1mawil1 well said!
Been with the same band the whole time so I've learnt to read other bands quite well
Jared- “I’m going to say this clown just picked up his buddies guitar”
Me- ....10 years 🥴
6:55 this riff is actually pretty 🔥.. I love this kind of riffs
Looks like a Trivium fan
@Sam Swigart do you have a full version or did you make the riff for this video?
@Sam Swigart It's killer and I'd love to see where you go with it in full too. If you do record it, please upload to UA-cam or let us know where to go to see it!
is there any chance to get the tabs i just wanna learn that ^^
@Sam Swigart Could you please make tabs for that? That just sounds amazing :)
Yeah. Zack Wylde locked himself in his room for like 2 or three years and came out and started playing for Ozzy, so don't be hard on yourself. #Shrinkening
Please do another one of these. Also, where do you post announcements to send your clips in?
Just a notification gere
I always see these on his Instagram but also on youtube announcements
3:44 I had no idea Magic of Rahat could play the electric guitar.
No, but jokes aside. Mad respect for him, who had to go through one of the worst possible things ever.
What happened?
If my video was in there:
Jared: I'm gonna say, 9 months or a year
Me, been playing for 10 years
I laughed so hard at "At least a year of Pissed-off-ness" with the pinch harmonics. I feel personally singled out.

Didn't notice until you pointed it out.
@@fa7al596 Lead takes practice, practice and practice
When you guess the same number as jared and get excited for like three seconfs

Yeah, this is so depressing to watch. I started guitar 15 years ago and the 4y girl was better than I -.-
Dude, I'm old, and you crack me up! Love your channel, thanks.
Hee hee, ive been playing since i was 14 im 54. I played in clubs for awhile when i was younger then raised a family. Now im back in it. Nice to here that it takes a year to control the pinch harmonics. Never was into metal but messing with billy gibbons stuff theres alot in it. I think if you heard me you would think alot lot less.

I wonder how much the guitar brands affected his guesses. I doubt that many newer players have a Kiesel or a Suhr.
It's pretty obvious how long someone has been playing purely based on technique and tone.
@@mosley3485 Sure, but it can help a bit if the guitar is from a smaller quality brand.
Been playing bass for 4 years now, can perfectly play smoke on the water...and not much else TBH

I gotta say that hearing your thought process was super cool with these because you were really spot on. You only messed up really bad on 2 of them. Definitely shows how experienced you are.

Haha its pretty sad that it takes so many years. That's probably why so many people get discouraged
