My great uncle was the driver of this exact tank in WW2. Him and his crew were killed by the Hitler youth using a Panzerfaust (German Anti-Tank Round Launcher) When they were taking the German city of Leipzig on April 18th 1945. He was 25 years old and a member of the 741st Tank battalion attached to the 2nd. Infantry Division. My great uncle died 17 days before the German Field marshal Wilhelm Keitel had the German Army surrender on 8 May 1945. My great uncle started on the Normandy beaches and was so close to making it out alive. R.I.P. Uncle George.

Jesus does say to turn the other cheek, but this is a metaphor for letting go of your ego and pride. Basically it means most things aren’t worth fighting for. Jesus also tells us that if you don’t own a sword to sell your cloak and buy one. Meaning self defense is righteous.

The green and red lights you see when they are shooting machine guns a called tracer rounds and are placed about every 10 rounds. They’re built with a small pyrotechnic charge in their base. When fired, the pyrotechnic composition is ignited by the burning powder and burns very brightly, making the projectile trajectory visible to the naked eye. This allows the shooter to visually trace the trajectory of the projectile and make necessary ballistic corrections. As for the German soldier letting Norman go at the end, I’ve always felt that he was a lot like Norman and hated killing so, he did what his conscience told him to do.

Norman is going through what most recruits experience if they are sent to an experienced unit as a replacement. The original guys have already lost friends and aren't feeling very friendly about new arrivals, who don't know anything. They also don't want to get to know the replacement because replacements die -again, because they don't know anything. What makes it worse is that this late in the war, all the combat units had taken losses and were short of men, so they were shoving half-trained recruits forward to fill the gaps. Norman arrives at the camp after 8 weeks in the army=he must have been shipped out immediately after finishing basic training, without any advanced training, because crossing the atlantic and getting to the front would have taken a couple of weeks.

The German tanks were not really all that technologically superior, most were about on par with the Sherman but the Sherman was built for easy of manufacture and maintenance plus it had to fit into the logistical needs of moving large amounts of equipment across oceans. The Germans didn't have that issue and they needed more defensive tanks to fight superior numbers on both fronts. The Panther and Tiger tanks did have better armour though the latter Shermans were about on par with the Tiger I for effective frontal armour but the Tigers had much bigger guns. However, there were very few Tigers, not even that many Panthers, the majority of the tanks they faced were PzIV's and SPGs(tank destroyers), which the Sherman could easily deal with.

Look up the Bovington Tank Museum's UA-cam channel for more videos on that particular tank) Panthers were the other really feared ones. What you have to understand about Christians, it's that we make a clear distinction between those who devotes their lives to god, and the commoners who are "secular", which means "live in the century". That's why often, you will find people not necessarily abiding to strict religious principle, contrary to clerics who will apply them 100%. Ex: we know we shouldn't drink by religious principles, but we still do, it's in the culture. Now at first you would think that it makes us hypocritical, and that most of the population just don't follow God, but the principle is that true goodness comes from the conscious choice between good and evil. In other words, you need to have free will and not be forced into religion. It's also a recognition that we are all sinners, and that our clerics are there to lead us to be better people, but that we don't have to be clerics ourselves, just good men. If drinking makes you a bad men, you have to stop. If not and you're able to control it, then it's okay (but in most of the times not preferable). So there's a lot of nuances in our approach to religion, and you'll see secular people sometimes bring it up as a moral perspective, a guideline to do good, but at the end of the day, only priests are bound to strict literalist behavior/clothes/etc. It's God's task to judge us in the end, not other people. Obviously, in this movie, the guy played by Shia Leboeuf is more religious than others, but he's still not a priest, he's secular, hence why takes a last sip of alcohol like his brothers for his final stance while reciting bible verses to inspire them. He's being a good and pure man, even in his sinners clothes, and we are hopeful that God will recognize that, because it was the rightful thing to do in this very moment.

I know you two only really watch movies and shows, but there is a channel, that allows reactions. he talks about american history and how things went, he recently talked about how crazy WWII was in one of his recent videos, in WWII america basically had no army we had the 19th largest military in the world. portugal was 18 which is the size of one of the U.S's 50 states. we had 150,000 soilders in the whole military, at our peak we had 16 million total during WWII. we were sending 18 y.os who had got a few weeks of training and then got sent out to the front line to now kill. at this time and in this county. they never saw death, other then maybe a passing of a loved one. that was the majority.

This is a story about a group of men who are in the process of losing their humanity. At the end, they sacrifice themselves to save others. Also, notice, at the end shot, they died on a cross.

In combat, when needing to releave yourself, if you want safety, pee where your comrades can see you. If you want privacy, go pee where your comrades can't see you. You can't have both in the middle of combat.

88cm? That's a bit big isn't it? Almost a meter. I think you mean 8.8cm or the more common expression for calibres, 88mm. In this case it's the short 88mm/8.8cm

I’m not religious anymore, but I was a Christian apologist one time in my life. There are several different denominations in Christianity. Denominations means different sects that have different teachings. Catholicism isn’t a Christian denomination. It’s a belief of its own. In their belief, you have to confess your sins and perform ritual séance such as saying “Hail Mary full of grace” a certain amount of times depending upon what sins you committed. The priests decides this.
As for Christian’s. The most common belief is, once you’re saved, you can never be unsaved. In the Old Testament, you had to sacrifice animals to pay for your sins. In the Christian belief, Jesus is the ultimate sacrificial lamb. His death paid for all sins, both past and future. If you believe in him and follow his teachings, then you’re saved from hell. People often bring up the question, “so you’re telling me I can be saved, and then go kill someone and still go to heaven? The answer is yes. However, if you truly believed in Jesus and his teachings, you wouldn’t willingly do such a thing without a good cause. So the real question is, “was you ever truly saved”? You have to accept Jesus not only in words, but in spirit, mind and body.
That is the mainstream Christian belief. You have subcategories such as Calvinism. Calvinism believes god has already chosen who will go into heaven before anything was ever created. Meaning, some of us were already doomed for hell from the beginning, regardless on how we have lived. Of course you have Mormons, but like Catholics, they aren’t considered Christian’s either. Sects like Baptist’s are like normal Christian’s, but old school. They are known for what’s called “fire and brimstone” teachings. Which is basically, fear mongering. They will make you “be a good person” by telling you that you will go to hell for doing bad things. Hell this, hell that. Probably the strictest of the Christian sects. Sorry that I’m all over the place and it might sound confusing, but it would take me months to teach you what every Christian sect believes and why those other religions aren’t considered Christian.

At the end, the young German soldier spared Norman because he was like Norman at the beginning of the movie. Innocent, and not looking to see death. The German youth was a reflection of Norman, and a glimmer of how humanity Should exist.

As a World War 2 pseudo historian and Brad Pitt fan. This movie just doesn't do it for me. It has nowhere near the intensity and heart of Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers. Which you need to see...Even having the last functioning original Tiger 1 tank from the war, it just has no feeling to me. Just seems like Brad wanted to make another War movie. Watch Inglorious Basterds if you want to see him killing Germans. That being said, I'm no gatekeeper.
