- Full show. Recorded March 1 2008 (not by me). This early version includes the cut song known as "Costco" (also titled More...and More...and More), which was used to illustrate Diana's mania before the revision of Just Another Day. Also features other cut songs that were replaced for Broadway, including Perfect, Feeling Electric, Growing Up Unstable, Getting Better, and Everything.

The one guy laughing after Natalie says she doesn't have a brother, not getting that Gabe's dead and thinking she's just disowning him as a joke is my spirit animal.
So weird, I just scrolled to a random spot in the video, that's what I landed on, then scrolled down and this was the top comment.
I like to think he just knew and thought it was funny
I went to see plays one day and this character was saying her ex stole stuff listing then she said he stole my iPad and I laughed
@@renetenorio9957 There was no way he could have known during the off-Broadway run. It wasn't even spoiled after it became a big hit. And the beginning, Diana is clearly talking to Gabe and it seems like he's interacting with the others although they never acknowledge him so it's not clear he's a figment of her imagination.

Okay Gabe’s reveal is haunting with the audience. When she said “I don’t” you hear one guy laugh and then she says that he died. This show is so good.
I love how in the beginning no one knows that Gabe actually died when he was like 2 and he's only in her mind (and later Dan's mind). In the very beginning they seem like an average family. A son who's in jazz band, key club, and football, a nerdy daughter who plays piano, and typical parents.
But the undercurrent of “Something isn’t quite right” is there throughout. It’s subtle, but it is there.
The craziest change for me was "that's eighteen years" god damn I was so ready for the 19
“Costco” is the cut number I loved the most. I understand why they scrapped it but hell if I didn’t enjoy it. I’m sure Alice Ripley was relieved when it was cut, though. Everything about portraying a manic episode in a musical number looks so demanding, from the vocals to the physicality required.
What I love about this version rather than the original is for the song "Catch me I'm falling" they dropped 2 verses when they went on Broadway, it was right when Natalie was suppose to go on piano solo, she and Dan and Gabe were all singing " catch me I'm falling X2 losing myself in the air, catch me I'm falling, don't leave me crawling, catch me and show that you care", and even though the original is great t capturing the pain, I like the extra 2 verses, shows even more emotion!
At 31:36 can we all just appreciate that Henry reaches out to comfort Natalie and she just totally rejects him.
in this version, its much clearer that natalie is really high during "catch me im falling". It really adds something to the performance

I love the "How do you know how much memory you've lost, if you've lost it?" from Gabe, and the audience seems to love it too.
It reminds you that while he's a hauntingly sad, creepy hallucination that's ruining the family, he's still a sassy teenager.
The most tragic thing about this show is that Gabe never got to grow up and actually be this sassy teenager that's coming home late and talking back to his parents.
This is really amazing seeing it before they polished it off for Broadway. I do admit though, I really miss the part that goes "give me clouds and rain and gray, give me pain if that's whats real. It's the price we pay to feel."

My personal favorite part is "A Promise" and "I'm Alive Reprise" because it's a really touching part. Brian d'Arcy James shows pain and anger like no other.
Not me being like “why is gabe like never involved in the family does he just spend all of his time in his bedroom” THEN IT REACHED THAT SCENE AND IT HIT.
I love you whoever recorded/uploaded this. The cut songs were really good but making sandwiches on the floor...hard to beat that.

It's so cool to see what they kept and what they changed. Wow...
It really is interesting. At first it seems odd that the big production numbers like Costco and It's Electric got cut. But I totally see how they detracted from the dramatic intensity of the story. Cutting them made the show have a more intimate feel, which ultimately has a greater impact.
I love growing up unstable! Wow, just so much backstory and expectations in this song!

I like both versions of the end confrontation between Natalie and her mom a lot. I'm glad this off broadway version is up so I could see both versions.
I saw this version at 2nd Stage. Then twice on Broadway. I was sorry that Costco was cut but glad that Feeling Electric was. Up until then I thought the show was exceptional. I was so confused. One moment I'm loving a show and the next I'm squirming in my seat. But obviously the feedback was negative. You can judge for yourself. Alice was just stupendous. How could you not ache for her? And Aaron Tveit was such a find! One of those massive Tony snubs.

The manic aspect of Bipolar I is more developed in this version (especially in "Costco"). Besides that though, Act II seems a little packed with song after song without any flow or link in between.
When this becomes a movie which it eventually will someday, Alice is one hard act to follow, I can't see anyone playing Diana on par with her except young Meryl Streep from the 1980s

This is probably my most watch musical of all time but fuck do I need a mental break after every time I watch it. This is genuinely the only piece of media I have felt exhausted after watching. It just so mentally taxing I can’t even imagine how hard and taxing it would be to perform this show.

Costco I believe was only used in the 2ST previews. Diana and the floor sandwiches was added around the time the show opened!!

This version was fantastic..I saw the broadway version first but I kind of like this one better...maybe the only song i didn't like in this one which I'm glad they changed was Maybe(next to normal) I am glad they changed it...
While I like Costco, I personally enjoy Diana’s breakdown in the kitchen with the sandwiches. Although Costco truly shows the visual experience of overstimulation and a panic attack, the sandwich breakdown shows the families reaction to her breakdown a lot better. While in Costco, she falls to the floor and Dan (I think) comes to help her, in the kitchen she puts sandwiches around the kitchen and the family just stands there. Dan walks over to her and brings her back up before taking her to the doctor.
This is amazing to watch, but god what it ended up as is just perfect. They did such an amazing job

Sent. The date listed on the files is March 3 2008, although now I'm hearing that Costco was only used in previews, so I'm not 100% sure. All I know is that the show ran at Second Stage from January 16 2008 to March 16 2008, and I've heard audio of Costco dated as late as February 2 and possibly later.

This version is very good, but I'm glad they made the changes they did to the Broadway production.
I cannot express how much I prefer Louis Hobson as Dr. Madden. This guy is good, but not nearly as good as Louis Hobson.

This run is my favorite one. Alice during I Miss The Mountains hit especially well for me on this one. Natalie’s actions during Superboy and the Invisible Girl went well after seeing her do it different ways in other runs. I’m bias with those songs so I paid close attention. Lol

The only videos I've seen are the few clips that have been posted on UA-cam, but I have found an audio of Argentina. It is a live recording, but I don't think it has all the dialogue outside of the songs. It features the original cast.

That was really good but I hope the father didn't get the electro shock therapy too , that would be horrible. My niece sent me here and I'm so thankful she did , I really liked it , felt closest to the mother and daughter though , I so understand , almost all of it and please dear god one day let there be light because I've been in the dark for far to long and I think I'm going blind from it.

Dan would have no reason to ever need ECT. It is only ever used as a hail Mary for patients with a history of multiple suicide attempt, medicine resistance, catatonia, or pregnant patients that depend on meds but can't take them while pregnant. If anything Dan presents as depressed with obvious codependency issues. Don't worry, he's not getting shocked anytime soon.

Yeah I think they really improved the music and story from where this was 😅. It's ok but definitely doesn't bring the same impact as the final product. Especially Natalies character is much better now.
