Like this floor plan. Was in the process of flaming the theatre seating...until I saw the fold down version, which I actually like. Wish more builders did this
I love watching new floorplan videos. GD nailed it on this one. Lack of hanging closet space is not an issue. I wish the one passthrough storage wasn't hindered by the dinette; it's not exactly easy to get to inside anyway. Could benefit from a front windshield, and there is so much kitchen storage I would sacrifice a drawer for a griddle cabinet to the exterior.
These slides MIGHT be light enough that the Shwintech slides MIGHT be ok... They should look at Cable driven slides... That would make me more comfortable and it's about the same weight wise.
Hi Josh, thanks for the detailed look at the new XLS floor plan. Hope GD helps this rig by upgrading the suspension. Looks like they stayed with the 6900 rated axle/leaf common on others, but this rigs ULW leaves little more than 1000 CCC. All that storage, if used ……. No one needs to be over GVWR.
Good walkthrough. I really like this floor plan. Now, to wait for a used one :) RV Tech and my only complaints are the Furrion tankless water heater, issues. And 12V fridge, issues. But both can be changed. Finally a "bigger" Grand Design that a 1500 can pull. They are usually too heavy.
Ugh. The folding front bed is a deal breaker. The first thing I look to replace in a new rv is the substandard mattress, and I guess that would be impossible for this unit.
clean RV, The folding bed would be tough. Nobody really likes huge dinettes, I'd make that the bathroom and give everyone TV trays or a free standing table somewhere. Then make the whole rear of the trailer a huge bedroom. radical idea but dinettes are not comfortable, everyone has to move to let people out, and the bench cushions wear out quickly becoming dumpster material. Every trailer I've owned I rip out the dinette and usually the cheap couch too. I also wonder about GD quality, they used to be the pinnacle of quality but have heard bad things lately.
This would be perfect for my wife and I when we're ready to travel and work on the road. I wanted a bathroom that didn't trap someone in the bedroom (check), I wanted the ability to close a bedroom door if one of us needed to do a zoom meeting (check), I wanted a U dinette that could double as TV watching bed so we could skip the loveseat and put our own work desk in (check), and I wanted to be able to use the bathroom and sleep in road mode. That U dinette would be perfectly fine for an overnight Walmart stop. Can you tell me why some people don't like that style of slide mechanism?
Schwintek slides as I understand it carry the highest frequency of failure. Many are still doing fine, but you don’t have to look far to find someone who has had Schwintek slide challenges.
I was initially excited about this design but the bedroom layout seems very lacking to me and that dinette eats up half of the front storage which for me would be a deal breaker.
Folding bed, nah, I'm not a fan of bed slides to begin with. I know some small campers don't have much of choice, but at this length give me a bed that doesn't fold and can used for overnight stops without deploying a slide. Other than that it is a great camper.
Love the long awning and the pedistel table. Overall a nice unit. Not a fan of the open storage in bedroom. If you can't use drawers give me some type of basket.
Looks great still using tiny stove and oven for no reason other then being cheap, and the smallest fresh water tank I have seen in years. The a,c is the same one I have which are a garbage cover on the inside. What I mean is when you try to clean it you have two tabs to open it which break right off with very little pressure. Decent counter in kitchen. Kitchen cabinets are deceptive for sure. Bathroom is not bad at all. The bedroom is sadly disappointing it’s like having a bed inside a closet. That is a huge deal breaker.
Lehtos law UA-cam channel just had a video on why you have to be insane to buy a new RV due to what many dealers have placed in purchasing contracts that severely limit their liability to fix these things.
@@larryc8834you are wrong. Never buy an RV. He then defined them as towable, motorhome, etc. Anything that is an RV - do not buy. Rent them if you want to use them. They are like timeshares on wheels.
This one is not for me. I realized that when going through the list of what I’d change & realized they’d have to redesign the whole camper. Why is that huge freakin dinette taking up 1/2 the camper living space? 🤔🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Another good review Josh. I like the floor plan. It is good to see GD changing things up some. One change that GD has made in 2024 that we don't like is the removal of the rear bumper and moving the spare tire under the trailer. Had this been the case with the 2023 we would not have bought our 22MLE. We are happy with the noise level of the Furrion A/C compared to Dometic units we've had in past trailers. We have those same cup holder controls in our 22MLE. They are in a lousy spot and frequently get hit accidentally and as a result we don't like them. We've also found we never really use the functions other than the USB ports which stops us from unplugging the seat. We like the marine style dinette table. The large base and post is one of most stable tables we've seen in a trailer. I don't like the style of linen/towel storage. With as shallow as it is it should have doors. To me great travel access has to include using the bed. We also aren't fans of the folding mattress for the reason you pointed out and that is it is pretty near impossible to replace a folding mattress with a high quality one without going custom (and that means big bucks). While I like the front dining/living arrangement I'm not sure I like the way it impacts the front pass-through storage. I think they should see if they can compensate with some exterior accessible storage under the bed. Though it might have changed one thing to note is the dry weights do not include the solar pkg. We found our 22MLE as delivered weighed about 200 lbs more and had about 50 lbs more on the tongue. The battery and propane added another 100 or so lbs. Something to keep in mind when considering available payload is it will be considerably less than the published dry weight which is already low. Available payload was one of the major decision points for us buying the 22MLE over the other GD XLS 6995 lb GVWR trailer floorplans.
Front door frosted glass would be an unequivocal no go for me and I’ve no idea what it would entail but I’d want that replaced with clear glass and a shade that came up from the bottom. No way am I willing to deal with someone knocking on my door at night and not be able to see them before I open that door. I don’t travel with a gun and once I’ve allowed someone a toe hold in my trailer my safety is compromised. Nope. Nice unit otherwise! I’d take her to 30’ and add a bit more bedroom storage though.
#nerdherd it's nice but it wouldn't be for me, there's too many things I'd want to change. I'm of the same opinion as you, I'd definitely consider using the dinette to lay on if I couldn't use the bedroom.
Just rewatching, because I really like this floor plan. The need to elevate that center table support is understood, but why the huge platform? Why not just build an elevation under the base of the support and not the entire floor around it.
Thanks, Josh! This camper would almost work for us. We like a big U dinette as it provides a large table and extra sleeping space for a couple of grandkids. The kitchen looks fine although the placement of the command center is odd. How ‘bout putting it on the side of the cabinet near the door? The bedroom is ok. I would like to see more hanging storage. They could replace the large rear window with a smaller window and put a tall cabinet in the corner to accomplish that. The bathroom is fine but I don’t understand the rear door. Why have 2 doors on a 28 foot trailer? Just wasted space. The two-headed sewer monster is an annoyance but not a killer. What is a killer is the 37 gallon fresh water tank. This needs to be at least 50 gallons or we wouldn’t consider it.
I actually really like this camper for my family. Get a tri-fold sleeper and the u-dinette for my kids. Great length and weight for my 1/2 ton. My only majored flaw outside of the schwintecs are the shelves in the bedroom. Can’t put a CPAP on them and there is nowhere else to put one.
Not a fan of the Schwintek slide system and I don't like having to fold the mattress. Getting too old to be wrestling with a heavy mattress. Is there room for thick thigh people in that dinette?
They should bring the TV cabinet out enough to put the control panel on the side, this would open up that cabinet above the sink and provide some deeper shelving behind the TV. Not being able to upgrade the mattress is a deal breaker thought.
For a 24 ft length, this trailer is PACKED. Not thrilled with the lack of walk around space on the bed, and really dont like Schwintek (?) slides.... BUT, remembering this is 24ft.... it is one of the best organized layouts I have seen.
Excellent job on the video. I like how you always start the video with the specs and show us travel mode. Keep up the good work. This trailer checks all the boxes I'm looking for. But please Grand Design, consider a nose cap window for lay outs like this. That is the only reason I will Be looking elsewhere. Again, great job on the review and keep them coming.
Josh, I'm a fan! I could watch your vids all night...Love the goofy jokes you make (you know, the ones you keep in a dad-a -base ;)) , but how the hell did you not make a comment regarding the dog feet at 12:29 of this video???
Really like everything about this rv except that not everyone is 5 ft tall doing dishes , she cooks, I clean up . That cabinet sticking out over the sink does not work at all and make the dining a table and chairs . Makes a flat area to use how you want it and should open up the storage for unobstructed use .
Looks nice and workable, but not enough clear water storage, not sure about the bathroom door, and I see disaster with the door opening with the awning out. The huge table is a bunch of wasted space. It’s nice and with some tweaking would be a great couples or small family camper.
Just lock the doors when you’re inside rolling. 😁 I really like this lay out. Especially the spacious dinette and that couch. I’d prefer the interior color tones to be grays whites and blacks. Or tans and browns. Not grays and browns, what were they thinking? 🤔
Why is the freshwater tank so small? Why is the grey tank so big? To me it doesn’t make sense when the grey and black equal more than the fresh tank 🤷🏽♂️. Sorry if you have explained this before.
Love the huge dinette. Hate the lack of cupboard space in the kitchen with the only overhead area there, taken mostly over by the tv and other controls.
thanks for the review. I don't see the purpose of a bedroom slide out if it doesn't give you more room around the bed to get dressed. We currently have a Grand design 3100 that doesn't have a bedroom slide and there is very little room (similar to this model) when you are trying to get dressed.
Nice unit! But I'm not a fan of bendy beds (I like my comfy mattress), so this model is not my next camper but my thoughts are: Scratch the dinette storage and give that back to the outside compartment. Between tables, canopies, grills, hoses, power cords, leveling blocks, etc my pass-thru compartment is packed as it is. It's a game of tetris as we pack up at the end of every trip! Add a windshield. I'm nosey and like watching the world go by while having breakfast/coffee (I'm not generally 'outside presentable' before coffee!) Would be nice if the sofa slide were a flush floor slide, in case a change of furniture was desired ... maybe a solo camper would prefer a recliner and side table without the trip hazard. (Not saying the furniture should be different from the factory.) Yes to another light at the bathroom mirror.
I toured a Super C last summer with a layout very similar to this trailer. The bedroom had a washer dryer combo in the closet. The ccc is not good for this length imo.
Nice trailer with some definite possibilities. At 6'2" I would want the taller sidewalls so that my head doesn't go into the skylight. I would want a larger fresh water tank, auto leveling, and because of the extra weight I just added, I would definitely need upgraded axles to get cargo capacity up a bit. I hate Schwintek slides, but suppose I could get past that if I absolutely had to. Good job Nerd! Now, I am off to the Richmond RV show!
Josh - question about those new types of lights. When they start to go dim or fail, are replacement bulbs available and can you replace them yourself or is that a dealer maintenance issue?
It’s not a bulb style light. Interestingly, most RVs do not use bulbs. The fixture has the LED typically built right into it. This would be a light strip replacement.
When I saw the size of the dinette, well it's ginormous. I don't really need a dinette that large but it might also make some great desk space when not eating. I know there are outlets and USB connections in the dinette area, but what about this idea? What about if there was a wireless pop up phone charger/USB connection (like in the kitchen area) as part of the table top? It could be connected when you put the pedestal in place (like pre lit Christmas trees) Does anyone do this? Of course you can't do that with an outlet, but maybe with a USB connection? Missing my fireplace that I like (no place to put it) and my back would not be happy with me for making it sleep on a folding mattress. With all the kitchen storage, maybe make room for a waste basket there. I like the folding armrest for the couch. I also like how the bathroom is set up and the entry into it from the outside. I'm also a fan of the interior doors being full doors and the black out roller shades.
I wish they would put more windows on the side that generally faces your campsite. The other windows end up staying closed so I’m not staring at my neighbours
I don’t think there normally is but we may be able to investigate and request that. Drop our team a note and we can dig into it at www.bishs.com/contact-us
I really wanted to like it, I kind of do, but the folding mattress IS a deal breaker for me. I wonder if you could prop up the mattress at a 45° angle, and not have to fold it? Did you say there's NO window in the entry door? I was going to ask about the raised dinette, thanks for asking them about it! Counter space is "acceptable". If I'm not mistaken, that dinette makes a "tall person compliant" bed? The RV is 8' wide, minus the thickness of the 2 walls, still leaves over 7' for sleeping, doesn't it? Doesn't fit my needs, but the ideas are excellent, and I'm sure it'll be perfect for many folks!
Love this camper. That ‘bendy bed’ …I wonder if they used the type bed (like another brand) where the head raises up, the slide might have enough room to close. Either way, this is a winner! Thanks for this video.
GD often comes up with interesting new designs that, if successful, the rest of the industry "R+Ds". This one seems to fit that reality. It was one of the things that put GD at the top of my list. It's not there anymore. What good is a lot of storage if your CCC doesn't support it? Seems it's GD policy now to cheap out on frames and suspension to save money. 1072 lbs CCC on a 29 ft model with that much storage? It's not just a CCC thing. It becomes a reliability and longevity thing. Maxing out CCC every time cuz it's so low means you're maxing out the weak components that are the reason for the low CCC. A strong foundation is the first step for a good quality house. GD seems to have forgotten that. Too bad.
I was taught that if I can't say anything nice I shouldn't say anything at all so I'll say that we like the theater seat with the optional middle armrest, those things rock and we think that all RV's should have something like that. In all seriousness, there's nothing really in particular about this one that we don't like, it's just a case of this jelly not being our jam. At all. Thanks for another fun and entertaining tour, Uncle Josh! Not sure if you saw my request in another video, do you think you might be able to cover a Reflection 297RSTS in the future? Thanks!
I actually thought I had already gotten to that one, so I’ll have to get it added to my hit list And know that I always welcome voicing a respectfully phrased opinion. I think that we can say things like we don’t like an RV without being awful about it, and I think you’re certainly a reasonable, whose opinion I’d love to hear sometime
@@JoshtheRVNerdIt's all good, I was mostly being theatrical - there wasn't really anything we could point at that we didn't like. It just didn't feel like a place we want to spend a lot of time.
Direct outside bathroom entry. Plus Plus Nice dinet. Needs a front window to make it rock. I like the layout. Lots of interior storage but not the rating to carry much. Cargo is a joke. Why is GD in general so bad on cargo? Oh, right. Frame Flex.
Funny - I just had this same talk with the imagine product manager. They just don't do front windows at all on these and cannot do them on a one-off model. We were discussing if front dinettes even made sense in the imagine family
Grand designs should call there fifth wheels IMAGINE… like IMAGINE if they could make frames that don’t flex and break lol but really that would be great
@@JoshtheRVNerd that’s awsome it didn’t happen to us but it happened to friends of ours and they had the factory pin box and we’re not even close to being overloaded…. It’s actually a lot of camper for what they need for two people…. Btw we love our rock wood it’s been great!
Haven't watched you in a while. I've been busy. Hope you're doing well Josh! Ps. I really don't like this floor plan. The bedroom/bathroom isn't my jam.
There is hardly any cupboard space due to TV and lighting switches and when someone is cooking using the counter they block the TV! I wanted to like this layout but Not for me!
Unique floor plan but not drawn to scale has the sketch shows at least 3 ft on the edge of the bed to the wall. In the video there's only one foot. Was rhe slide suppose to extend 2 more feet?. The dining is too big rather they put a front full height closet for coats, broom, garbage can . . .. Would then need a front window. Dont like control center over stove wish it was at the door behind the TV. Being so light is a big plus.
Grand design has always been my #1 recommendation. As Nerd would say "2nd camper the first time." Yes they're more expensive but they aren't breaking the bank. This one is going in the park camper file. Can't knock it because Aesthetics are subjective. The floor plan is nice. Usually prefer a trifold but the table makes up for it. 4 comfortably and toss an airmatress on the floor for the kids. Love how they make sure everything you are going to need is covered. The question is what model fits you best. Now i have to critique. Umm... Grrr I need something to go all Uncle AL and holler THERES YOUR PROBLEM! D@/\/\|\|£T! OOOWA! Cargo capacity is low fora park camper. 🍻
Looking for a camper that can accommodate 4 adults comfortably. This design would be better if there were a sofa and theater seating paired with a Murphy bed and flex dining table. To keep the length inder 30’ move the bathroom to the middle and extend the bedroom to forgo having a folding bed. If there’s a similar unit already out there PLEASE let me know as it would be a game changer
A decent floor [plan but you mentioned that the trailer has Bluetooth? It's an RV - not a large space. Why on earth would anyone be so lazy that they would have to bluetooth control anything in their RV. Let's get back to basics and keep things simple. Then maybe some of the problems with RVS will go away.
I see more roof and plumbing seal/gasket/connection problems =water damage and mold. Bluetooth is fine, it's just the overall electrical wiring throughout that's screwy: Wiring too many things on one breaker; wrong gage wire.
Like this floor plan. Was in the process of flaming the theatre seating...until I saw the fold down version, which I actually like. Wish more builders did this
In with you on that
Ember and alliance decent on it in their trailers too

A couch a couple of bums should be fine for the schwintech slide. We've had 4 on our dinette and never had a problem.
It's not quite for me, but a private bedroom in a such a short trailer AND a decent kitchen is amazing 👌🏻
I agree. Not for everybody, but it is very cool and original.
Josh, I'm a fan! I could watch your vids all night...Love the goofy jokes you make (you know, the ones you keep in a dad-a -base ;)) , but how the hell did you not make a comment regarding the dog feet at 12:29 of this video???
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Really like everything about this rv except that not everyone is 5 ft tall doing dishes , she cooks, I clean up . That cabinet sticking out over the sink does not work at all and make the dining a table and chairs . Makes a flat area to use how you want it and should open up the storage for unobstructed use .
Great input. Ty
The grey tank isn't so big but there's 2 of them.one for kitchen and other for bathroom.
The fresh is pretty small.
Generally, you pour more stuff down the drain into a grey tank than what water you do from the fresh.
Love the huge dinette. Hate the lack of cupboard space in the kitchen with the only overhead area there, taken mostly over by the tv and other controls.
Thank you for watching!
thanks for the review. I don't see the purpose of a bedroom slide out if it doesn't give you more room around the bed to get dressed. We currently have a Grand design 3100 that doesn't have a bedroom slide and there is very little room (similar to this model) when you are trying to get dressed.
Yeah, it’s definitely different when done this way. I think the idea is giving you the bed in a shorter total size.
"Not the sharpest bulb in the pack." Love it!
😉
I like it, but could use a bit more cargo capacity.
It is a bit light there
Nice camper it new and cool thxs for the great videos
Thanks for watching!
@@JoshtheRVNerd thank you
I like this floor plan but not the bedroom with no walk around space and lighting in bathroom other that’s that it’s great! Thank you Josh!
Thanks for sharing!
Nice unit! But I'm not a fan of bendy beds (I like my comfy mattress), so this model is not my next camper but my thoughts are:
Scratch the dinette storage and give that back to the outside compartment. Between tables, canopies, grills, hoses, power cords, leveling blocks, etc my pass-thru compartment is packed as it is. It's a game of tetris as we pack up at the end of every trip!
Add a windshield. I'm nosey and like watching the world go by while having breakfast/coffee (I'm not generally 'outside presentable' before coffee!)
Would be nice if the sofa slide were a flush floor slide, in case a change of furniture was desired ... maybe a solo camper would prefer a recliner and side table without the trip hazard. (Not saying the furniture should be different from the factory.)
Yes to another light at the bathroom mirror.
Awesome awesome thank you so much for sharing. I really appreciate the feedback and the time you took to leave it.
Say hello to the team for me
@@JoshtheRVNerd Pleasantries exchanged with your team!
I call them "Spider Beds!" what'ya think?
Josh - question about those new types of lights. When they start to go dim or fail, are replacement bulbs available and can you replace them yourself or is that a dealer maintenance issue?
It’s not a bulb style light. Interestingly, most RVs do not use bulbs. The fixture has the LED typically built right into it. This would be a light strip replacement.
That exterior style bathroom is awesome. The dining table is pretty cool.
I think so too!
Like it Josh 👍
Awesome Ty
Nice new Imagine Josh 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😊😊
I'm glad you like it
When I saw the size of the dinette, well it's ginormous.
I like those pop-up power stations myself, so I am always on board with adding those
I love that mega dinette! Plus heated massage recliners.
Me too!
I wish they would put more windows on the side that generally faces your campsite. The other windows end up staying closed so I’m not staring at my neighbours
More and more builders starting to find ways to do it
I like. Do you think a fireplace could be added by removing a couple of those drawers under the TV?
Yeah, I have seen people do stuff like that aftermarket in a bunch of different different campers
The Palomino 230FKBS is nice also
I haven’t seen one of those, but I’ll keep an eye out
Is a tri-fold an available option for this. Would make a great family camper
I actually agree pretty much completely. There’s a lot of this that I really like but I’m not a big fan of the bending bed myself.
Can you do a review on the 2024 Salem hemisphere 308rl
I have one coming
It may be under the name heritage Glen 308rl but they’re literally the same thing
Love this camper. That ‘bendy bed’ …I wonder if they used the type bed (like another brand) where the head raises up, the slide might have enough room to close. Either way, this is a winner! Thanks for this video.
That’s an interesting idea.. I don’t know the answer but I like your thinking
Too bad.
There’s a lot of truth to that. They wait a year to see if one of these these new floorplans takes off and then try to build a version of it.
Like the floor plan but would like to see a front window and a hard fiberglass front cap!
👍🏻
@@JoshtheRVNerd I’ll keep my eye out for the same on a different model lol. Thanks
I wish the door hinges were reversible lol
I was taught that if I can't say anything nice I shouldn't say anything at all so I'll say that we like the theater seat with the optional middle armrest, those things rock and we think that all RV's should have something like that. In all seriousness, there's nothing really in particular about this one that we don't like, it's just a case of this jelly not being our jam. At all. Thanks for another fun and entertaining tour, Uncle Josh! Not sure if you saw my request in another video, do you think you might be able to cover a Reflection 297RSTS in the future? Thanks!
I actually thought I had already gotten to that one, so I’ll have to get it added to my hit list
And know that I always welcome voicing a respectfully phrased opinion.
Plus Plus
Nice dinet. Needs a front window to make it rock.
I like the layout.
Lots of interior storage but not the rating to carry much.
Cargo is a joke. Why is GD in general so bad on cargo? Oh, right. Frame Flex.
Really like the telescopic table in dinette
Needs bigger fresh water and less grey! Plus, it needs sturdy steps for bigger guys like me!😊
I also don't understand why they build these trailers without a front window at the dinette. Seems like it's doable for sure. So do it!
Funny - I just had this same talk with the imagine product manager. They just don't do front windows at all on these and cannot do them on a one-off model. We were discussing if front dinettes even made sense in the imagine family
It is so stupid to put a such small fresh water tanks on any rv but to then put a crazy large gray tank is ridiculous.
I think it’s two grey tanks. One for kitchen and one for bath so it looks out of whack
Perhaps you need a sign to put outside the doors to warn people you’re recording.
If it was one of our own displays I have done that. This was grand designs display though and that didn’t feel right
Good video Josh
Glad you enjoyed it
Grand designs should call there fifth wheels IMAGINE… like IMAGINE if they could make frames that don’t flex and break lol but really that would be great
I'm working on getting some more info to get clarity on the topic right now actually
Welcome back!
Like it. Needs a bidet or bidet gfi plug in bathroom for heated butt warmer.
Appreciate your videos, but I am not. GD fan. Keep em coming Uncle Josh!
👍🏻
There is hardly any cupboard space due to TV and lighting switches and when someone is cooking using the counter they block the TV! I wanted to like this layout but Not for me!
Unique floor plan but not drawn to scale has the sketch shows at least 3 ft on the edge of the bed to the wall. In the video there's only one foot. Was rhe slide suppose to extend 2 more feet?. The dining is too big rather they put a front full height closet for coats, broom, garbage can . . .. Would then need a front window. Dont like control center over stove wish it was at the door behind the TV. Being so light is a big plus.
Pretty neat! Thanks Uncle Josh!
Glad you liked it!
Git rid of the telescope and put folding legs instead and if it needs support for bed function put a short post only used for sleeping
🍻
It is a bit low I agree
Can we tow this 28 ft with a1500 ram ?
If properly equipped, then potentially. Half-tons can vary greatly by capacity
This trailer design doesn't work for me at all. Grand Design is too overpriced in Alberta, Canada.
Keep up the great reviews! Love watching the videos.
Glad you like them!
This may work even without Murphy bed under 30ft m.ua-cam.com/video/_sczz7muqLI/v-deo.html
All that storage and big refrigerator but no cargo capacity ? 👎 😮
Not a fan of losing kitchen cabinet space to a command center.
Fair enough!
New Josh video on a GD rig = "wife and kids, no talking to me for 15 minutes". Simple math.
😆
The industry continues to use these junk poor quality counter tops, total crap! Make it cheap and get it out the door mentality!
This would be perfect if customers had the “option” of replacing the humongous “1960’s diner” booth dinette with a comfortable sofa👍💥
