Ha! This is my time to shine, yes I HAVE had a Tropius in HG/SS! In fact, I've done the challenge you've just finished in every possible game! I have a Tropius tattoo on my shoulder, and I think I probably have the only one! Tropius is my boy, the pokemon I'd have if I could only have one, and holds a special place in my heart. If #357 has no fans, consider me dead!
Tropius really, really needs an evolution, though I'd even accept a few retconned stats like Game Freak sometimes implements, like how Raichu got additional speed at one point.
I'd love to see a regional grass rock Tropius with crystals on it's back instead of wings. Give him Power Gem and Giga Drain. Go to town. Like a four legged Godzilla.

It's ok, I feel like almost everyone has had that assumption about Ice types. It's REALLY weird that the only thing it resists, is more ice. I'm frankly shocked they didn't add any additional resistances to either flying or grass in gen VI where they tried really hard to rebalance the types. I blame them trying to make charizard a thing again.
I still have my hidden grotto only pokemon! (b2w2) - you can use the randomizer to change the starters to: sap sipper marill, rattled dunsparce and scrappy lillipup (they have their hidden abilities) - the starters are the ranch´s grotto encounters - you can choose to only use one pokemon per grotto OR you can catch anytime when something spawns (backup pokemon etc) - you do need to solo 3 gyms with the starter but you´ll manage
Couple tips to help your HG and SS runs in future. Remember that you can find very early shell bell in HG and SS in route 32 behind a smashable rock (HM can be found in the ruins of Alph and can be used freely after the first gym) next to the bird keeper. It's just before entering the union cave. Also as another tip, smashing rocks in this game sometimes yields shards that you can exchange to berries with npc in Azalea town next to the pokecenter. This can easily net early sitrus berries and status berries that can help your journey. I don't know the chances of drops but on each save I have yielded few in 5 minute smash sessions so it's very easy thing to grind for. It's my go to way to get 10 oran berries for the ranch (to unlock the moomoo milk) because you find the shards so much faster. Also if you decide to let mom hold on to your pocket money, she can send rare berries that are helping to reduce the damage of certain type your pokemon is weak to. I have done challenge runs in this game and it seems to be coded to look at your party weaknesses so there's a higher chance to get them. For example if the event pops while you have only normal type pokemon in your party, she will send berry that reduces fighting type damage. Hope these will help your future runs. 😊

Yeah, the turn a Pokemon uses roost, it loses all the flying type's weaknesses, resistances and immunities. A pure flying type like Rookidee actually becomes normal type while roosting. Also, fun fact I just checked form Serebii, a dual type Fire and Flying like Charizard or Moltres that lost it's fire type by using the move Burn Up actually becomes typeless while roosting instead.
Hearing about the 3 turn of attract on you from Whitney reminded me of something I saw watching a Kaizo Ironmon run of HG. At Whitney's of all places, an Italian streamer that I watch got a THIRTEEN turn attract before winning. I dream more THAT now, than rollout 🤣 Anyway, great video, Tropius was an exotic choice, and I like these

I was wondering about that too. It wouldn't help much against the ghost gym because they have high special defense but it could have helped with the Steel gym. Steelix is weak against 4 types and it has crappy special defense. If Hidden Power was fire, fighting or ground, he could have had an easier time against her entire team. Oh well... 🤷

Roost losing flying type was a fact that scrambled my brain. Trouple H would've been Gold, shoulda done Soul Silver instead, I guess. A wild Missingno appeared at 27:15!

To say that Wally's team is so good yet he does so badly with it feels kinda unfair. You only battle him once during the entire game (I don't count the first time, since he literally only has an unevolved Ralts), and of course by the end of the game your team is gonna be ready for the Elite Four, so naturally it'll easily take down Wally's team. So, that feels kinda unfair.
Since I don't want to request a Jhoto run on a Jhoto video I will invert my request. Can you beat D/P/Pt with only Chikorita (or it's evolution family) People praise Torterra to no end. Let's see if the "worst" grass starter really is that much harder

This run was really fun to watch, Trop is such an odd duck of a Pokémon that seeing it in action was a blast! Would love to see you use it again in FRLG, I think it would fare better but still be a challenge. Lastly, my girlfriend really loves Stardew so you know you’ll have us watching the UA-cam uploads!

That's so exciting! Star dew is one of my favorite chill out games and it had both a considerable addition update and another quality of life update (if you only count the big ones). I'm about to start a new farm to enjoy those updates to their fullest and I hope you have fun discovering all the new stuff! (Including the "endgame" additions that only show up after the Joja mart/community centre plots are finished.)
The non-attacking Quilava sounds a lot like my experience with that rival battle. His Croconaw refused to attack my underleveled Bellsprout and only tried using Scary Face a half dozen times in a row, usually missing because of Flash, letting Vine Whip slowly chip it away. Any attack and he would've won in 2-3 hits, hands down. And a few foes, especially Steelix, probably would've been easier if you had Magical Leaf instead of Razor Leaf because it was a special move.
For the fight with Red, you can set the weather condition to Diamond Dust if you change the date to particular ones. That way, you don't have to deal with Hail effects in the battle, and Lapras doesn't bypass accuracy checks with Blizzard.
Tropius is the cooler Meganium. I Had one transfered with the DS lite from Sapphire as I wanted to fill the Pokédex in HeartGold. But not for combat. Would be cool if Tropius would be available earlier in the older games so you can use it for a playthrough
I remember back when oras was about to come out, my friends and I made hoenn teams and fought in a little tournament. We are not competitive players, but I swept everyone with a Tropius that had Dragon Dance, Roost, Leaf Blade, and Fly, also holding a sitrus berry with harvest. It was real fun.
Can you do a black/white ( also 2 is useable, game is up to you ) run with only scrafty, or if that not enough of a challenge cause he a beast, only scraggy
Fun tropius fact: in the early scarlet/violet vgc (competitive doubles) meta, tropius was a niche menace utilizing leech seed stall of all things! stall is a usually notoriously terrible doubles strategy, usual classic stall singles mons like toxapex cant tank 2 mons focusing them down but...tropius of all things could. It fell off hard after early regulations, but shout out to banana beard for making me want to throw my switch across the room a couple of times lol
I pretty much always have Tropius in my team in any of the games where HMs are a thing and it is available sometime before E4, since it is without a doubt one of the best HM Buddies in the game, learning a ton of them, pretty much all non-water related ones.

Grass is probably the type that makes the most sense for Ice to resist. Then again, grass definitely doesn't need more types to resist it.

Cause it's kind of hard to roost while in the air so it has to land thus is no longer flying.

Fun tropius fact: in the early scarlet/violet vgc (competitive doubles) meta, tropius was a niche menace utilizing leech seed stall of all things! stall is a usually notoriously terrible doubles strategy, usual classic stall singles mons like toxapex cant tank 2 mons focusing them down but...tropius of all things could. It fell off hard after early regulations, but shout out to banana beard for making me want to throw my switch across the room a couple of times lol

I pretty much always have Tropius in my team in any of the games where HMs are a thing and it is available sometime before E4, since it is without a doubt one of the best HM Buddies in the game, learning a ton of them, pretty much all non-water related ones.
