Gimme Chocolate is a very simple song that served almost as a demo for the Babymetal concept. If you stick with it, the music will get more complex, the vocals will get much more impressive, and it will blow your mind. There's much more to Babymetal than this song.

I would say Headbanger personally but RoR is also a great one. But for me the fact that Dragonforce wrote that for them doesn't make it so much their sound. Pa Pa Ya and BxMxC are also great, and we can't forget Megitusne.

If you're curious, the song is about how the band is sick of beauty standards and how hard they have to work to meet them, and them saying in the nicest way possible a 14 year old and two 13 year olds cann (that was their ages when this song came out I believe) fuck it, give me chocolate.

Tip: Babymetal has a seriously hardcore fanbase and reacting to them will drive views to your channel (those Japanese fandoms are very dedicated), especially because their latest studio album in four years just dropped.
From a 'Western' perspective, Road of Resistance live in Japan (ua-cam.com/video/zTEYUFgLveY/v-deo.html) is the one which converted me (old school metalhead) from, 'yeah, this is kinda interesting' to, 'okay, that was fantastic, also I HAVE to go to one of their live shows because their crowd interaction / control is second to none I've seen (I'd say on par or possibly even better than Rammstein)' - so I now have tickets for their next tour. (Personal perspective: Gimme Chocolate is one of their songs I don't really like - and a good 3/4 of their songs are on my regular playlist. It's just too gimmicky and jarring, and I don't think it really represents their sound.)
With Headbanger Live @ Legend 1997 Apocalypse (ua-cam.com/video/YjjWZpf_jSs/v-deo.html) being another decent option in terms of getting your head around what their thing is, with its vibe being somewhat between Road and Chocolate.
In terms of non-live stuff, I'd say Karate is their best music video (ua-cam.com/video/GvD3CHA48pA/v-deo.html). But unlike many bands, live is where they really shine.
They are absolutely a divisive group amongst western metalheads, people either love them or hate them. However (not that band opinions should necessarily sway people) but a few gems I've come across:
"They roll harder than you" - Rob Zombie
"How can you not be entertained watching that?" - Korn
"We saw them in 2013 at a festival, and we were astounded by their awesomeness" - Metallica
They've performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Dragonforce, Rob Halford, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Guns N' Roses and Red Hot Chili Peppers. So... regardless of what some metal fans think, they've won hearts and minds amongst the metal community.

    Wellcome to the Foxhole!
    Almost there.
"Chotto" means "wait" or, "just a moment".
    "Chokoreto" is chocolate in Japanese.
    Funny bit:
"Zokiyum" and "Dokiyum" are onomatopoeias, for "poisonous" and "I like it".
It goes with the duality of the lyrics, of wanting chocolate, but being worried about gaining weight.
As others said, you nee to watch "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan".
That video gets everything Babymetal and mixes it into the purest and ultimate definition of that Babymetal is all about.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey 🦊🤘🔥
Now they got a metalverse but that's a more recent era so highly recommend to just wait to get there but in case you wanna know, they already released 5 singles from the new album "The Other One". Last month they started live concerts at Sabaton's Europe Tour as a special guests and everyone is having a blast with this song, either you hate or love it, is a song with crazy amount of views and they don't wanna leave behind in any of their setlist.
Dance choreography and metal had never been seen before and they somehow managed to make it works creating their unique own genre called kawaii-metal, mixing Jpop and heavy metal along with many more sub genres and rhythms, you'll have so much fun going through this journey.
This isn't actually live sound, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. They have their own band called Kami Band introduced later on that same show and after that Kami Band become regular at live performance.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 23.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said.
This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"_
Some recommendations for next songs like:
    - _"Road Of Resistance"_ live in Japan official.
    - _Catch Me If You Can_ live at Budokan 2014 (you got a safe to react version with subtitles at GuilhermeCait channel) or...
    - _Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!_ live at this same live performance Legend 1997 in Makuhari Messe Japan when SuMetal is celebrating her birthday becoming a metal goddess queen and leaving her idol jpop form (you can find one at Gans Tomas channel under "Head Bangya" title).
You have more than 50 songs and still more to come. Amuse their label is very hard to deal so if you want to avoid copyright blocked you have *Babymetal Reactor Resource* channel you'll get full original clips of their best live performance with watermarked logo safe to react, look for "Future Plans" vid, follow instructions and you'll get all of them, upload the one with the logo for us and you can watch without it, don't worry for us we already saw all of them.
    See you next time! 🦊🤘🍫

  • @Grington300

Good first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊The song structure for 'Gimme Chocolate' is relatively simple as you said, but it may be one of their most simple songs as far as that goes. It is also a song where the different genres (in this instance the thrash metal and the JPop verses) are really not blended so much as smashed into each other.
They just want chocolate, but they are a bit worried about their weight - but it is chocolate, it would be so nice and they would be so happy, so can they just have a piece of chocolate please?
They have many songs that are much deeper and so much more meaningful - but some songs, like this, are just fun.
This was the official video, so the audio is from the studio recording even though it was filmed at a live show - they are so much better live. This concert was in December 2013, the day after lead vocalist Su-meta's 16th birthday (she does have a high voice, but I suspect what you may have read exaggerated that fact or was more likely referring to Yuimetal's and Moametal's voices with their "atatatatatata dukyun" ... they were still only 14 when this was recorded).
They have about 60 songs now, each one different to the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre (thrash, djent, folk, prog, nu-metal, death, black, industrial, etc), but they will also mix or blend in so many other musical styles and genres - not just pop - with the metal (eg ska, reggae, hip hop, rap, Bollywood, Latin, Finnish polka and so many more) usually when you least expect it.
I see 'Headbanger' (use live at Legend 1997 - same show as this video, but live audio etc, look on Gans Tomas channel for that), 'Megitsune', Road of Resistance' live in Japan have all been recommended, also 'BxMxC', but save that for later and it will surprise you more.
I would suggest 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' live at Sonisphere 2014 in the UK ... we will explain why that is such an important performance if/when you watch it.

I loved this react, thank you, your thoughts insights and energy are wonderful. I hope you continue down the Babymetal foxhole, if you are interested in watching them progress from starting out (this video) try finding older videos (with "Live" in them but not with "BBC" in them because BBC did an atrocious job with sound for many live recordings). They are so fun early, and good, but over time the band and lead singer (Su-Metal) in particular become great, then greater, and the progression doesn't stop. They do their own thing, love it, are one of the best live shows to ever set foot on stage. You will be surprised virtually every new song, and surprised by how you were surprised.

It is easy to have preconceived notions of idols and kawaii elements, but it is clear that these women are great stage performers. More importantly, behind it all is great stage production, great songwriting, and super impressive instrumental skills.
In general, the selling point of idols is not their authentic musicality or perfected charisma. It is about supporting the immature idols and taking pleasure in its growth. That is why many fans think that BABYMETAL is no longer idols in the usual sense of the word.
And, in fact, idols can have all kinds of musical styles to differentiate themselves from each other. This is obvious to those with a deep interest and background in music.

BABYMETAL started back in 2010 and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too.🤘🦊🤘

BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old when the group began.
All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these for a start.
Karate LIVE at 2016 Download Festival in the UK where 60,000+ British metal heads sing along with the girls.
    Megitsune LIVE at Budokan 2021

Road of Resistance LIVE in Japan

At their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019) has officially become the third member.
Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles.
Good luck and hope to see you again.

For a little more hardcore metal Japanese band, check out Hanabie. Specifically their songs "We Love Sweets" and "Pardon me, I have to go now"

Love your work Joey. If you ever feel like checking out some different but very interesting music, try anything from endless space 2. It has some extremely well made music, especially for being a game. The main theme would be "memories of the lost" but every single track is really really well made and good in my opinion. Anyways, awesome video as usual, keep it up!

Babymetal came from the Japanese version of the Mickey Mouse Club, like Britney, Justin, Christina. They were in different groups before they tried this. I love it though

Should listen to more songs by them like Karate or Headbanger, some are more vocal but I suggest getting one with english lyrics for sure so you can know what's being said and enjoy the "music perspective". That being said: Another group to listen to which is going back a couple years, Inspired by KDA Pop/stars: is: Tier 4-Bang Bang. Try it out man: sung by streamers like yourself. Be good man!

Basically all babymetal tracks are solid, no wrong way to go...except maybe babymetal death...you need to prepare for that one...
anyway, I'll throw another rrcommendation in, "catch me if you can".

If want to start going deeper into the japanese music scene you will have to check out Ado at some point. She's easily one of the most talented singers out there at the moment and she has loads of great originals as well as several covers on her channel.
